Description

The SE Outreach Accelerator is an exciting 8 week program that takes place in Stockholm, Sweden. It is a capacity-building program that is designed to equip the participants with entrepreneurial skills to enable them to scale up their impact and accelerate their growth, thereby creating a multiplier effect of the positive impact they are having.

The SE Outreach Accelerator is a program for:

  • founders of projects/enterprises
  • change makers
  • social entrepreneurs who are creating positive social and/or environmental impact in developing communities.

Eligibility

The SE Outreach Accelerator is open for applicants with:
  • Any background, age, or nationality
  • No requirement to have a registered enterprise prior to the program
  • Both for-profit and non-for profits enterprises
  • No requirement to already have a written business plan
  • No requirement to have revenue streams/profitability prior to the program
To apply we require that:
  • You have an operating project/enterprise that targets social and/or environmental issues facing the developing communities
  • Your project/enterprises can be scaled and replicated to benefit more people
  • You are passionate about creating positive impact with your project/enterprise and have the ambition of making it financially sustainable from sources beyond donations
  • You are the founder of such project/enterprises and can attend the 8 week Accelerator program in Stockholm full-time during April 13th – June 5th2015
  • You can fully participate in a program conducted entirely in English (read/write/speak/comprehend)
  • You are open-minded and willing to share your experiences in a co-working, co-learning environment

Costs

SE Outreach Accelerator in Stockholm is a program that is provided free of charge. This means that there is NO cost of attendance, or application fee associated with the program.

Furthermore, we will cover some of the expenses associated with attendance which include:

  • Return flights, visa, insurance
  • Accommodation in Stockholm
  • Fixed daily food allowance in Stockholm
  • Internet
  • Travel card to use Stockholm public transportation

National Security Language Initiative for Youth

U.S. Department of State funded program for high school students to study abroad, National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) application is currently open, the deadline is : October 30, 2014. Please share with students!

ABOUT NSLI-Y

The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by theU.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.

NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.

NSLI-Y PROGRAMS

NSLI-Y programs offer intensive language immersion in a variety of locations around the world. Beginners are welcome to apply for any of the target languages.

Scholarships are available for students to learn the following languages:

ELIGIBILITY

Is the NSLI-Y program right for you?

Before filling out the online application, review the eligibility requirements below and read more about the process of learning a language through immersion.

Eligibility Requirements:

  • U.S. citizen
  • Grade point average (GPA) of 2.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale, or the equivalent
  • 15-18 years of age at start of program (birthdate between July 15, 1996 and June 10, 2000 for summer programs; birthdate between September 30, 1996 and June 30, 2000 for academic year programs)
  • Enrolled in high school (including home school) at the time of application
  • Not an immediate family member of an employee of the U.S. Department of State who works in the Youth Programs Division of the Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs or an employee at a NSLI-Y administering organization whose duties involve the NSLI-Y program
  • Have not previously traveled outside the U.S. on a long-term (more than eight weeks) program sponsored by the Youth Programs Division of the Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs (ECA)
  • Previous NSLI-Y summer program participants or alumni of ECA-funded short-term programs are only eligible to apply for a NSLI-Y academic year program.

Previous language study is not a requirement. Students of all levels of language ability are welcome to apply. However, please note that the majority of NSLI-Y participants are at novice or intermediate levels.

The NSLI-Y program seeks applicants who represent the diversity of the United States. Students of all racial, ethnic, religious, and socio-economic backgrounds are encouraged to apply, as are students with disabilities.

Is language learning through an intensive immersion experience right for you?

The goal of the NSLI-Y program is to promote critical language learning among American youth and to spark a lifetime of interest in language learning. NSLI-Y aims to guide students toward using language in their university and professional careers and to dedicate themselves to continued language learning far beyond their time on the program.

NSLI-Y scholars participate in intensive language courses on both summer and academic year programs. Summer programs include a minimum of 120 hours of formal classroom instruction.  Academic year programs include at least ten hours per week of formal classroom instruction, and most programs include additional academic courses. These intensive language courses are complemented by cultural immersion activities inside and outside of the classroom, including home-stays, excursions, and local community service projects.

Successful NSLI-Y participants dedicate themselves to language acquisition through both formal and informal learning opportunities. Participants strive to succeed both academically, by improving their language skills, and culturally, by gaining an understanding and appreciation for a new way of life. Participants should expect to immerse themselves fully in the language and cultural experience; they should not expect to complete academic work for their U.S. school while abroad.

Archisle: International Photographer in Residence Programme 2015

Description

Archisle, hosted by the Jersey Society in the British Channel Island of Jersey, promotes contemporary photography through an ongoing programme of exhibitions, education and commissions. The Archisle project connects photographic archives, contemporary practice and experiences of island cultures and geographies through the development of a space for creative discourse between Jersey and international practitioners. Archisle is currently inviting applications for the International Photographer in Residence Program, which will be held from April-September 2015.

A key focus of the Archisle project is to engage the residency programme with Jersey culture and community through audience and participatory involvement. In addition to the production and solo exhibition of new work responding to the cultural context of theisland of Jersey, the resident will be contracted to teach photography one day per week over the six month duration of the project. This teaching will be delivered in a workshop format to a range of educational and community groups.

Eligibility

The residence program is open to professional photographers possessing the desire, enthusiasm and a proven ability to impart technical skills and develop critical understanding of contemporary photography across a diverse range of participants.

The residency provides the following benefits:

  • £10,000 bursary for the commission/production of a body of work and solo exhibition;
  • Studio space with access to inkjet printing and office/internet resources;
  • Living Accommodation and stipend;
  • Travel costs.

Creative Shock – International Business Case Competition

Deadline: 19 October 2014
Open to:  Bachelor and Master’s Degree students

Description

Creative Shock is an annual business case competition for students from all around the world. Participants every year are gathered to solve business, marketing and PR problems for social enterprises and organizations.

To reach the Finals of “Creative Shock” and become one of the Top 5 teams, your team has to complete several rounds.-

  1. Participants of the competition have to make a team of 3 to 4 members.
  2. 1st Round: 20-29 October; during the first challenge teams have to solve a social business case.
  3. 2nd Round: 30 October 30 – 9 November; during the second stage teams are challenged to create a guerilla marketing strategy for international social organizations and present the solution in a video form. It‘s a real chance to make an impact on our society, business and environment.

The best five teams will reach the finals, which will be held at ISM University of Management and Economics in Vilnius, Lithuania on the 5-7th of December 2014. These teams will have only one night to solve the final case study and compete with each other for 1500 EUR grand prize established by Danske Bank. Lectures, networking event and team building activities will be included in the final three days event in Vilnius. The Packaging Challenge with H&M Germany

Deadline: 27 November 2014
Open to:  emerging social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs between the ages of 21 and 31 years old, from around the world

Description

The one-year program is a competitive fellowship enabling emerging social entrepreneurs to plan and implement their own ventures. Fellows receive start-up training, engage with current experts, and create change by implementing their social start-ups in their your own communities.The program takes place in two phases, the ten-week Incubation Phase on campus in Hamburg and the ten-month Implementation Phase in the Fellows’ home countries. During the Incubation Phase they will develop their individual business plans and next to that, solve a real life group Challenge posed by a company or organization to learn hands-on what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how to successfully take action. During the Implementation Phase each Fellow starts his/her own mission-driven venture.

H&M Germany challenges you to create an innovative packaging system for one of its product lines! The goal is to minimize waste and energy, optimize the handling process and create maximum recycling and upcycling opportunities along the way. The solution should aim to be globally scalable and economically viable. The impact of the developed solution will be evaluated during a one-week testing phase, delivering goods from the central German warehouse to H&M stores in Hamburg.

The DO School  is seeking highly motivated and talented emerging social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs age 21 to 31. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a track record of being passionate about addressing social issues and creating and spreading innovative social change. We welcome applications from people with all educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. Successful applicants are determined and willing to use our program to start new, or grow existing ventures, or implement a new initiative within a larger organization. The DO School program is ideal for outstanding mission-driven people who are looking for the tools, skills, and mentoring to launch a social start-up

Tuition Fee & Fellowship

The DO School fellowship is a highly subsidized program, which means participants pay only a small portion of the actual costs as their tuition fee. For One-Year Programs in Hamburg the tuition fee is 1,000 € excluding travel and living expenses throughout the Incubation Phase in Hamburg. This only applies to Fellows who can afford to pay the full tuition and their own costs, for everyone else there is financial aid available for both the tuition fee and the personal costs during the Incubation Phase of the One-Year Program. Fellow selection is need-blind. This means we select Fellows regardless of their financial circumstances and make sure that everyone who is selected can also participate in the program. If you need financial aid there is a separate form in the application process that you can fill out. If you are accepted you will then automatically receive an individualized partial or full financial aid offer. The offer will be based on your personal needs, however, we expect all candidates to demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and actively contribute to part of their own costs through their own fundraising activities.

International Film Festival Rotterdam Trainee Project for Young Film Critics

The International Film Festival Rotterdam (IFFR) seeks applicants for its 2015 training program. The IFFR Trainee Project for Young Film Critics offers motivated and talented journalists a chance to cover a major international film festival.

The program includes reporting on the festival for the Daily Tiger, publishing a blog on IFFR’s website, meeting with experienced film critics and reporting for participants’ home media outlets.

International Film Festival Rotterdam welcomes applications for the 17th Trainee Project for Young Film Critics taking place during its 44th festival edition (21 January – 1 February 2015).

International Film Festival Rotterdam supports film making, film producing and journalistic talent on several levels: the main festival section Bright Future (including competitions for both features and shorts) presents recent works by first and second time filmmakers; Rotterdam’s Hubert Bals Fund contributes to film projects in developing countries and co-production market CineMart organizes a trainee project for young film producers (Rotterdam Lab) in close collaboration with its partner organizations. Recognizing the important role of film criticism to the perception of independent cinema, IFFR organizes a trainee project for young film critics.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Age under 30 years
  • Fluent command of the English language (written and spoken)
  • Demonstrable experience in film criticism (print or online media)
  • Not yet established enough to profit from facilities as attending international film festivals outside your country
  • Have agreement(s) with relevant print and/or online media to publish reports on International Film Festival Rotterdam 2015

Costs

The organizers will cover hotel accommodations from Jan. 22 to 29 and partial refunds of travel costs when participants are traveling from outside Europe.

  • A motivation letter to support your application: explain why this project and the Rotterdam festival appeals to you and what you can offer the festival
  • Your resume (CV) including your contact details and date of birth.
  • Up to three proofs of recent work you published on (independent) film or film festivals. If not in English, provide the original articles with English translations to demonstrate your command of this language

Médicos del Mundo Photography Contest

Award: €6,000 to develop a photo project related to the work of Médicos del Mundo

Description

Médicos del Mundo have recently announced the call for the 18th Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award, to denounce the situation of millions of people in the World. This award comes as a tribute to and in recognition of Luis Valtueña, Flors Sirera, Manuel Madrazo, and Mercedes Navarro, Médicos del Mundo aid workers killed in Rwanda in 1997 and in Bosnia in 1995 while performing their duties as international humanitarian aid workers. Their memory serves to ensure that each year victims of injustice are brought to light.

Eligibility

The competition is open to adult amateur and professional photographers of any nationality.

Awards

The winner will receive a project grant worth € 6,000 to develop a photo project related to the work of Médicos del Mundo. The grant will cover all project expenses and will be paid in three installments: 50% at the announcement of the winner; 25% at the beginning of the project; and the remaining 25% at the end.

Application 

In order to enter the competition each participant should submit a maximum of ten photographs, which can be part of a series or standalone, and a personal data questionnaire. Please consider that only photos taken between January 2012 and October 2014, and which have not been previously entered, will be accepted. Photos must be sent in digital format by one of the following procedures:
