$1500 Scholarship for Those Who Care

$1500 Scholarship for Those Who Care

The Nature-Saving Rules contest is open: small text but big step in nature conservancy

Thousands of watersheds, parks, trails, and forests are suffering from environmental issues. But guess what? Today you have a unique chance to help nature conservancy without ever leaving your house—and you may even win an award! We are excited to give you the opportunity to win a $1,000 or $500 scholarship using only your writing skills. Twice a year, we hold a competition to award the best writers who support a responsible approach to outdoor activities!

WHAT WE STRIVE FOR

Hikers often negatively impact the surrounding environment without even knowing it by transporting invasive species, disturbing wildlife, leaving waste, etc.
We’re inspired by the Leave No Trace principles and want to encourage every backpacker to follow these rules.

The Hike & Cycle Scholarship is all about raising environmental awareness among youth by giving them a solid incentive in the form of a scholarship. What we are trying to achieve here is to make more people understand that the environment is in dire need of their attention and help.

PARTICIPATION REQUIREMENTS

  • You must be currently enrolled in high school, university, or college. Applications from all countries are accepted.
  • You must create an original list of nature-saving rules (according to the requirements listed below).
  • The winners will be required to send us proof of their educational status.

REASONS TO APPLY

  1. The first place winner will get $1,000 and the second place, $500. Note: each participant may send in only one submission and win only one award.
  2. We use student-generated content to write articles and make infographics on various topics concerning the environment. Your contribution will help raise awareness among people reading our blog posts!
  3. The best authors can count on their writing being published on our blog. Naturally, that means our readers will see your name!
  4. Winners will receive individual certificates from HikeAndCycle.com.

PARTICIPATION RULES

    1. Prepare a list of nature-saving rules on one of the following subjects:
      • The Nature-Saving Rules of Responsible Camping
      • How Hikers Can Make Sure That They Don’t Hurt Wildlife
      • Recommendations for Responsible Behavior Near Bodies of Water

You’re free to focus on a specific outdoor activity (climbing, cycling, kayaking, etc.) or write more generally.

  1. Make up a creative, catchy title that reflects your ideas.
  2. Share the scholarship post on social media using Google+, Twitter, and Facebook. The links to the shared post must be sent along with your application.

The Oxford University Diplomatic Studies Programme (OUDSP)

THE OXFORD UNIVERSITY DIPLOMATIC STUDIES PROGRAMME (OUDSP)

The OUDSP, also known as the Foreign Service Programme, is a course of postgraduate study, specifically designed for foreign policy practitioners, which enters its 50th year in October 2018. The great majority of DSP members are diplomats in early to mid-career, nominated by their governments, who come to Oxford for a career break of a full academic year.  The course helps them to upgrade their academic knowledge and practical skills and to familiarise themselves with British, European and international institutions.  They also benefit from the many academic and social facilities Oxford has to offer.  While in Oxford, each of them is a full member of the University and of one of its Colleges.

Applicants may apply to either the Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomatic Studies or the Master of Studies in Diplomatic Studies.

The Postgraduate Diploma in Diplomatic Studies is a nine-month (October-June), full-time course requiring residence in Oxford. It comprises four taught courses and is assessed by four year-end examinations.

The Master of Studies in Diplomatic Studies is a twelve-month (October-September), full-time course requiring residence in Oxford.  In addition to the four taught courses and year-end examinations of the Postgraduate Diploma, it entails completion of a substantial research project.

Eligibility

To be accepted, candidates must have a good degree from a reputable university, relevant professional experience, and a very good command of oral and written English.  A wide spread of countries is represented on the Programme.

Programme content

The syllabus includes international politics; public international law; international trade and finance; and diplomatic practice. OUDSP membership includes access to Oxford’s intellectual, library, sporting and social resources, networking with colleagues and the chance to tackle complex long-term subjects in a way not easily achieved during busy diplomatic postings.  In addition to the normal syllabus, some members are accepted to undertake specialized research under individual supervision.  Distinguished guest speakers lecture to and dine with the course during the Michaelmas, Hilary and Trinity Terms. The year’s programme normally includes study visits to London, Belfast, Brussels, and Geneva.

Funding

Some course members are financed by Chevening (FCO) or other publicly- funded scholarships; others are funded by their own governments or from private sources.

Those who apply before the January deadline will be put forward for University and College scholarships.

Deadlines

  • 19 January 2018
  • 9 March 2018

Join the OpenVillage/LOTE6 festival 2017 in Brussels

Deadline:  ongoing
Open to: anyone with a story of an open and participatory project of health/social care
Fellowship:  Up to 15000 Euro

Description

We believe that the future of health and social care is community-based and participatory. We are committed to the idea that care should not necessarily be handed down from institutions to the people but can emerge organically from the people according to their needs.

The OpenVillage Festival is a highly participatory festival showcasing working solutions and demos produced by community members, as well as pathways for working together towards their sustainability. It will take place on October 19-21, 2017 in Brussels and represents the culmination of the OpenCare 18 month research that involves hundreds of original initiatives.

Aiming to deepen community collaboration, during April – May 2017, the SCImPULSE Foundation will appoint 3 “students” to support communication and engagement for the OpenVillage. We use “students” in the Latin sense, of people that will apply themselves to the subject, as fellows of SCImPULSE Foundation, and not in any sense as an indication of career status.

Eligibility

We will consider individuals who have demonstrated an interest in and alignment with Diy Welfare (referred to as “opencare”) in the following ways (each item will receive a score from 0 the minimum, to 5 the maximum, which will be summed to define the final score used to choose the winners):

  • are registered on edgeryders.eu and have contributed a story on the OpenCare community page. NB: All the stories already submitted in 2016 and 2017 are being considered.
  • are operating at the grassroots level or are heavily interacting with such groups
  • Are open in their work, use of methodology, technology, results (public and transparent communication, open processes for participation, commons licensing, open source code etc.)
  • their contribution is validated in positive responses by their peers in the opencare community (as seen from the Comments section)
  • have storytelling and content production skills for presenting the opencare initiatives to various community groups and audiences
  • demonstrate willingness to collaborate with others and use online environments for communication, engagement, documentation of work and social media

Fellowship

  • A bursary appointment: Up to 15000 Euro to reimburse your working time, distributed on the basis of winners’ financial needs
  • A travel budget: Up to 5000 Euro, to be authorized in advance by due justification.

Application

  1. Connect with other participants by reading their stories at the bottom of this page, and offering ideas or advice in the form of thoughtful comments.
  2. Think about a theme, session or exhibit on community care, that you would like to curate for the OpenVillage (see the first proposal here).
  3. Write a post containing your proposal in our shared workspace.

In order to apply, register HERE.

There is no deadline for the applications, but the sooner you start and complete your application, the higher your chances – we will consider them on the rolling basis!

For more information come to our weekly online community gatherings on Wednesdays at 18:00 CET here or contact community@edgeryders.eu.

Prize: $10,000

DESCRIPTION
Are you a peacebuilder? Would international recognition and a $10,000 prize help your organisation make a bigger impact? Apply today for the annual Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders awards.

Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders are the global awards for local peacebuilding run by Peace Direct. Awarded annually, they offer international recognition for grassroots peace activists in conflict-affected countries worldwide.

Since Peace Direct was set up a decade ago, it’s been our mission to support and showcase the variety and scale of peacebuilding led by local people around the world. We support 11 organisations in nine countries and have profiled over 1,300 organisations through our flagship website, Insight on Conflict.

Now, we are launching our fourth Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders awards to showcase the best locally led peacebuilding organisations across the world. This year’s awards are being run in association with Alliance for Peacebuilding. Entrants will need to show how they are making communities more peaceful, or breaking the cycle of violence. A jury of international peacebuilding experts will select the winning entries.

There will be three winning entries. Each winning entry will receive:

·         $10,000 prize funding for peacebuilding activities.

·         Promotion of their work online, including on the Insight on Conflict and Peace Direct websites and newsletters
