Description

The Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme was established in 2015 thanks to generous donations from multiple donors to mark the 95th birthday of Lord Weidenfeld.

This scholarship is part of the Oxford Graduate Scholarships, which were established through a groundbreaking new matched funding initiative to enable the creation of fully-funded scholarships for graduate students of the highest calibre from across the world. The University contributes 40% of the funds for these scholarships, together with 60% from generous donations provided by supporters of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust, including Fondation Hoffmann. Fondation Hoffmann is a Swiss-based grant making institution supporting the emergence and expansion of concrete projects which address global problems in today’s societies.

  • Applicants must be applying to start a new graduate course at Oxford.
  • Applicants should be intending to return to your country of ordinary residence once your course is completed. Students currently at Oxford are not eligible to apply unless they are already Weidenfeld-Hoffmann scholars.
  • Applicants should be able to demonstrate a connection between your subject of study and your longer-term career objectives, explaining how you see your professional work contributing to the improvement of public life in your country of origin or at a wider regional or international level. Preference will be given to Master’s course applicants.  If you are applying for a DPhil you must be able to demonstrate how your DPhil studies will benefit your future career in leadership.

Scholarship

  • The scholarship will cover 100% of University and college fees and a grant for living costs (of at least £14,296). Awards are made for the full duration of their fee liability for the agreed course.

Application

  • In order to be considered for this scholarship, applicants must select the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme in the University of Oxford Scholarships section of the University’s graduate application form and submit your application for graduate study by the relevant January deadline for your course (6 or 20 January 2017). See the Courses page for the deadline applicable to your course.
  • Applicants must also complete a Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships Questionnaire and upload it, together with their graduate application form, by the deadline.
  • They will use the details them insert in the ‘Nationality and ordinary residence’ section of the graduate application form to assess your country of ordinary residence. The 2017-19 Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership Program

Description

As part of the 2017-19 Jeanne Sauvé Public Leadership Program, the Foundation invites bright young change-makers from a wide range of disciplines and sectors from Canada and around to world to take part in a remarkable leadership journey.

Following in the thematic footsteps of the inaugural program, our next cohort of Fellows will explore the complexities of Public Leadership for Culturally Diverse Societies: The Inclusion Imperative. The 2017-19 Jeanne Sauvé Fellows will be invited to collectively explore how public leaders can help diverse societies to thrive by making inclusion of all cultural groups a guiding principle.

The Program is a unique two-year opportunity. It begins with a full-time residential leadership experience in Montreal with a dozen select Public Leadership Fellows. This is followed by a field phase, in which Fellows return to their respective communities and countries in order to apply the skills and new ideas developed during the residential phase. Fellows benefit from intensive leadership development training and support during the residential year and some ongoing support from one another and the Foundation during the field year.

The Jeanne Sauvé Fellowship is the beginning of a lifelong personal and professional leadership development journey as part of a global community of courageous, connected change-makers.

Eligibility

  • Be between 25 and 30 years of age (inclusive)
  • Have completed at least one university degree
  • Possess high oral and written proficiency in English (French language skills are an asset)
  • Have at least 3 years of full-time professional experience
  • Have a strong record of leadership benefitting a particular community or cause in the public interest

Costs

The Jeanne Sauvé Fellows are provided with a fellowship. They are also given accommodation in the Sauvé House at no cost.

the Foundation reimburses all reasonable* visa/permit and economy fare travel costs incurred by participants in the course of their visa/permit applications.

*Expenses above $150 must be approved in advance by the Foundation.

The Foundation also covers the costs of economy travel to and from Montreal at the start and end of the residential program (exact dates to be approved in advance by the Foundation).

Transportation costs (round-trip) are covered for Fellows’ return to Montreal at the end of the phase.

In addition to free accommodation at Jeanne Sauvé House, Fellows in residence receive a monthly living allowance that is above the estimated monthly cost of living for graduate students in Montreal; it enables them to buy food, clothing and other necessities, as well as to enjoy the city of Montreal.

The LAF Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership 2017-2018

The LAF Fellowship for Innovation and Leadership was created to expand opportunities for research and to nurture and inspire mid-career and senior-level landscape architecture professionals toward the following goals:

  • Support Innovation in Landscape Architecture

As we confront increasingly complex and interrelated environmental, social, and economic challenges of the 21st century, this fellowship brings together a diverse group of landscape architecture professionals from public, private, academic, non-profit, and other sectors to develop and test new ideas in support of the preservation, improvement and enhancement of the environment. It is an entrepreneurial investment in the next ideas that will drive the future of our profession.

  • Cultivate Transformational Leadership in Landscape Architecture

Effective innovation requires criticality, courage, and profound insights into the world in which we live. Fellows will be tasked with building leadership capacity during their fellowship year.

Fellows will take advantage of LAF’s broad reach and network within the discipline and be expected to present their ideas; engage in critical discussion; and, collaborate with leading academics, practitioners, affiliated organizations and industry partners. Additionally, fellows will be expected to share their work strategically with the public through an appropriate format that will advance the profession’s position as a global thought leader while affecting positive change for the planet and its inhabitants.

The Fellowship also aims to build capacity for leadership through intergenerational mentorship. A cohort of fellows and recent LAF Olmsted Scholars will be brought together over the course of the year. Fellows will present and discuss ideas with the intergenerational team as well as provide guidance and support to exemplary emerging professionals towards the pursuit of their ideas and future endeavors.

Eligibility

  • Applicants must have a bachelor’s or master’s degree in landscape architecture. For those with degrees from colleges/universities in the U.S. and Canada, the landscape architecture program must be LAAB- or LAAC-accredited. For those outside of the U.S. and Canada, in locations where landscape architecture is not a recognized degree, a degree in a related discipline is acceptable, provided that the applicant works as a landscape architect. (See Application Materials for required documentation.)
  • Applicants must have a minimum of 6 years of professional experience in landscape architecture. This experience can include all types of practice — private, public, academic, non-profit, service, multi-disciplinary, and other.
  • Applicants must be able to communicate in written and spoken English at an advanced/professional level and provide evidence of proficiency.
  • Applicants must be able to dedicate time to the fellowship and proposed project. They will be required to obtain a letter of support from their employers for time-off from their regular employment.
  • Current LAF staff and members of the LAF Board of Directors are not eligible. Former staff and former members of the LAF Board of Directors who meet the above requirements are eligible.
  • Teams may apply for the Fellowship, provided that the Team Lead meets the above requirements. There are no restrictions on the size of the team. If selected, the team will share the $25,000 award.

Fellowship

Fellows are required to participate in 3 three-day residencies in Washington, D.C. over the course of the fellowship year. Full attendance and participation in each of the residencies is crucial to the success of the Fellowship and is mandatory to receive funding. Travel stipends are provided. The first and last residencies take place in the spring and coincide with the LAF Board of Directors meeting.

Residencies consist of presentations and discussions by Fellows and participating Olmsted Scholars, with invited critics that may include academics, practitioners, representatives of affiliated organizations, industry partners, and past and present members of the LAF Board of Directors. The goal of the residencies is two-pronged: to facilitate project development and guide transformational leadership.

  • Provide inquiry that raises questions and provides a testing ground
  • Help identify barriers and remove obstacles to project success
  • Provide constructive feedback and critical review

Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders are the global awards for local peacebuilding run by Peace Direct. Awarded annually, they offer international recognition for grassroots peace activists in conflict-affected countries worldwide.

Since Peace Direct was set up a decade ago, it’s been our mission to support and showcase the variety and scale of peacebuilding led by local people around the world. We support 11 organisations in nine countries and have profiled over 1,300 organisations through our flagship website, Insight on Conflict.

Now, we are launching our fourth Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders awards to showcase the best locally led peacebuilding organisations across the world. This year’s awards are being run in association with Alliance for Peacebuilding. Entrants will need to show how they are making communities more peaceful, or breaking the cycle of violence. A jury of international peacebuilding experts will select the winning entries.

There will be three winning entries. Each winning entry will receive:

·         $10,000 prize funding for peacebuilding activities.

·         Promotion of their work online, including on the Insight on Conflict and Peace Direct websites and newsletters

ELIGIBILITY

There is no geographical restriction on applications. In order to be eligible to enter, you must:

·         Be undertaking peacebuilding work: your organisation will be either a peacebuilding organisation or have peacebuilding as a substantial element of your work.

·         Be locally based: your organisation must be based in the country/communities where your work will be done. Your organisation should be an independent organisation, not an incountry or satellite organisation of an international NGO.

·         Be working, or planning to work, in at least one of the following thematic areas: women-led peacebuilding; environmental peacebuilding; or interreligious peacebuilding.

Harvard Model Congress Asia 2017, Hong Kong, China

Harvard Model Congress Asia is a global conference where international high school students learn and experience government while playing the roles of officials in the United States government and several international political bodies. HMC Asia strives to educate and foster the next generation of global leaders by offering a truly interactive program, featuring one-on-one communication with Harvard students, debate on pressing global issues, and cross-cultural connections among delegates from throughout Asia and around the world.

Students from more than twenty nations converge at the conference and work together to address challenges facing governments across the world. At HMCA students discuss contemporary political issues, draft policy, report news stories, and decide court cases, all under the guidance of Harvard University students. HMC Asia is an officially recognized and wholly student-run organization at Harvard College. HMCA teaches students about government and international relations by providing insights into pressing global issues and by offering a forum to discuss possible solutions. HMCA’s staff of talented Harvard undergraduate students, selected after a competitive application process, strives to encourage a passion for government and international relations by simulating international organizations and the United States government.

Costs

  • Delegate Fee: USD 295/person;
  • For HMCA 2017, both full scholarships (covers delegate fee, lodging, and transportation costs) and partial scholarships (covers delegate fee) will be awarded to support delegates for whom financial need would be a barrier to attendance;
  • Harvard Model Congress relies on student participant fees to cover all of our costs, which range from staff transportation to printed materials. The delegate fee includes all aspects of the conference (with the exception of hotel accommodations and meals), as well as an HMC Asia 2017 T-shirt. This fee must be paid for each delegate who is attending the conference. Delegate fees must be paid within 2 weeks of registering for the conference. Roles will not be assigned until the delegate fee is paid.

The Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) for Foreign Students in Malaysia, 2016-2017

The Malaysian International Scholarship (MIS) is an initiative by the Malaysian Government to attract the best brain from around the world to pursue advanced academic studies in Malaysia. This scholarship aims to support Malaysian Government’s effort to attract, motivate and retain talented human capital from abroad.

Talented international students with excellent academic records and outstanding co-curricular backgrounds are welcomed to apply for this scholarship and further their studies in any selected and well-established Malaysian public and private universities. This scholarship is divided into two (2) categories of study: Postgraduate and Post-doctoral Studies.

Applicants must be obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study.

Eligibility

· To be eligible for Malaysia International Scholarship (MIS), applicants must fit the following criteria:-

  1. Not be more than 40 years (Postgraduate) and 45 years (Post-doctoral) of age during application.
  2. Obtained a minimum of Second Class Upper (Honours) or a CGPA of 3.5/4.0at Bachelor Degree Level for Masters Degree applicants and for PhD candidates must possess CGPA 3.5/4.0 or very good result at Masters degree level in a similar field of intended PhD study. In addition, for post-doctoral programme, the selection will be evaluated based on the number of books produced, refereed/non refereed journals, portfolio and patent copyright. The Post-Doctoral candidate must have excellent reputation in research and possesses knowledge related to the research to be carried out.
  3. Took one of the following English Language Proficiency Test not more than two years before the date of application. The list of tests and minimum scores required:
    1. IELTS Academic Test with a score of at least 6.5; or
    2. TOEFL paper-based test with a score of at least 580 or computer-based test with a score of at least 230 or internet-based test with a score at least 92.
  4. In excellent health condition and certified by a Certified Doctor/Medical Professional. The cost of medical examination is to be borne by the applicants.
  5. Wrote a proposal that is relevant to the field of studies.
  6. Has applied for and gained admission to postgraduate and post-doctoral studies in Malaysia (conditional letters of offer will be accepted at the time of application or has a confirmation of acceptance or affiliation with the Universities in Malaysia).

Scholarship

Each scholarship consists of:

  • Air tickets from recipient’s capital city to Malaysia
  • An approved tuition fees

This very generous scholarship is intended to provide for 100% of the cost of tuition, fees, books and supplies. The scholarship is renewable up to three years or until a bachelor’s degree is earned, whichever occurs first, as long as the recipient maintains full-time enrollment and satisfactory academic performance. Courses of study that take longer than four years may extend renewal eligibility if funding is available. Awards are for undergraduate study at a college or university preferably in Minnesota.

The U.S. Commission on International Religious Freedom was created by the International Religious Freedom Act of 1998 to monitor the status of freedom of thought, conscience, and religion or belief abroad, as defined in the Universal Declaration of Human Rights and related international instruments, and to give independent policy recommendations to the President, Secretary of State, and Congress. General Information on USCIRF Internships

  • Currently enrolled students are eligible for internships with USCIRF.
  • All USCIRF internships are paid; course credit may be available.
  • USCIRF does not provide housing or moving expenses.
  • Internships can be full-time (40 hours a week) or part-time (20-30 hours a week) for a minimum of 8 weeks, but not to exceed 16 weeks.

General Eligibility Requirements (applicable to all USCIRF internships)

  • U.S. citizenship
  • Currently enrolled undergraduates (sophomores, juniors and seniors) and graduate students (including JD and LLM candidates)
  • Minimum 2.5 GPA
  • Successful completion of a background check

Communications Intern

  • Maintain and expand database of media, NGO, think tank, academia, and religious contacts
  • Post on social media sites such as Twitter and Facebook
  • Help update website
  • Help prepare materials for distribution to the public and press, including press releases, policy briefs, newsletters, and reports
  • Create daily press clips for distribution
  • Help organize and provide logistical support for events such as press conferences, public hearings, and speaking engagements
  • Provide general administrative support as needed

Eligible candidates should have:

  • experience with Social Media such as Twitter and Facebook;
  • knowledge of Adobe InDesign and other publishing programs;
  • excellent writing, editing, and organizational skills;
  • an interest in human rights and foreign policy;
  • ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team;
  • a willingness to perform administrative tasks.

Government Relations Intern

  • Track foreign policystatements, religious freedom, human rights and related legislation, and relevant policy publications
  • Attendand report on Congressional hearings
  • Review relevant government agency websites and publications daily
  • Research positions and actions taken by Members of Congress and Congressional committees and organizations
  • Undertake other research as needed
  • Provide general administrative support as needed

Eligible candidates should have:

  • excellent writing and comprehension skills;
  • a passion for foreign policy and human rights;
  • ability to work independently, with minimal supervision, and as part of a team;
  • a willingness to perform administrative tasks;
  • familiarity with the full Microsoft Office suite (Excel and Word in particular).

Policy Department: Legal Research Intern (open to current 2L, 3L, and LLM students)

  • Conduct research on a variety ofinternational human rights and comparative law topics, as assigned

Eligible candidates are:

  • law students with coursework or experience in constitutional law, international affairs, human rights, religious affairs, or a related field;
  • familiar with legal research techniques and the full Microsoft Office suite;
  • interested in the field of international human rights.

Fluency in a foreign language is preferred, but not required.

Policy Department: Regional Policy Analysis Intern

  • Research a variety of international religious freedom and human rights issues, with a focus in one or more of the following world regions:
  • Africa
  • East Asia
  • Europe and Central Asia
  • Middle East
  • South Asia

  • Assist with preparations for meetings, roundtables, Commission travel, and other events
  • Attend meetings at USCIRF with international visitors and other groups interested in USCIRF’s work

Eligible candidates:

  • possess demonstrable knowledge, including academic background, of a particular world region;

  • are familiar with the full Microsoft Office suite (knowledge of Microsoft Access is preferred, but not required).

Fluency in a foreign language (particularly Mandarin Chinese, Russian, or Arabic) is preferred, but not required.
