Description

Since 2012 the International Development Youth Forum is held annually and youth with high ambition for international development get together from all over the world.

IDYF2016- We aim to create a better future based on diversified values and experiences of youth from both developed and developing countries. IDYF2016-We aim to empower youth, who are to become the leaders of the future, by finding solutions to the problems of developing countries, through discussions with their peers from different backgrounds.

Aims:

In 2016 the IDYF will be held in Tokyo, Japan from 6th of March to 13th of March.

Eligibility

The International Development Youth Forum is open to young people between 18 and 28 years old from around the world.

Costs

Financial support to attend the conference will be available for young participants from developing countries. The organizers will decide the type of scholarship based on your application:

  • The scholarship (including airplane ticket, participation costs)

Participants who are not eligible for a scholarship are required to pay a participation fee of JPY 30,000 (approx. €200).

*Insurance, transportation expenses (including transportation from the airport), accommodation before and after the program, are not included. Additional expenses may apply.

UN Youth Academic Conference in Bucharest

Description

This year’s edition of the United Nations Youth Academic Conference will consist in discussions aiming to answer the question“What challenges does UN face in 2015?” Through this event are invited scholars, researchers and young professionals to present their research work and reflections upon the following topics:

  • Peace and Security;
  • Human Rights;
  • International Development.

Also, the programme includes keynote lectures carried by experts, scholars and professors in the three main areas of discussion. Nonetheless, the participants will have the chance to get better aquainted with each other and share their views during the social activities as well. Accordingly, during the three days of the conference, they shall dwell within an interactive and thought-provoking environment, where both social and professional networking will be possible. The event will take place at Bucharest, Romania from 6 to 8 November 2015.

Eligibility

Scholars, researchers and young professionals interested in mentioned topics are eligible to apply.

Costs

60 EUR (without accommodation), 100 EUR (with accommodation)

The participation fee includes:

  • accommodation (by case) : included nights 5/6, 6/7, and 7/8 November;
  • lunches;
  • coffee breaks and snacks;
  • welcoming kit;

The World Forum for Democracy 2015 in Strasbourg, France

Description

The Joint Council on Youth, decision-making structure co-managed by representatives of governments and youth NGOs, has agreed to involve the youth sector of the Council of Europe in the 2015 edition of the World Forum for Democracy.

The 4th edition of the World Forum for Democracy will engage with decision makers and opinion-formers in a reflection on how to maintain a balance between freedom and control for security in European societies and will explore new ways of engaging young people in re-visioning the democratic arenas of today. The World Forum will take a place from 18-20 November 2015 in Strasbourg, France. The initiatives and ideas to be presented at the forum will be discussed in labs and roughly cover the four following key categories:

  • How much control kills democracy?
  • Freedom from fear in a diverse society?
  • Is learning of democratic culture adequate today?
  • Is freedom of expression and information a reality?

Eligibility

In order to be selected and participate in the World Forum 2015, applicants should:

  • Be aged 16-30 (exceptions can be made in special cases);
  • Be resident in one of the 50 signatory States of the European Cultural Convention of the Council of Europe, 30 places will be made available for participants from other regions outside the European continent;
  • Be able to communicate and work in English;
  • Be actively involved in civil society Democracy initiatives;
  • Be motivated to contribute to developing new ideas on youth and democracy;
  • Be supported by a youth organisation or network or informal group working on democracy; some non-organised individuals will also be accepted;
  • Be ready to share own challenges faced in accessing freedom of expression and dealing with control and violence;
  • Be ready to adopt a solution-oriented approach by bringing in new ideas and visions of democracy;
  • Be ready to dream democracy;
  • Be available to participate fully in the World Forum for Democracy and the preparation process beforehand;
  • Experience or involvement in the No Hate speech movement at local, national or international level will be an asset;

As far as possible, participants should be representative of the variety of youth in Europe. Therefore, special attention will be given to young people from marginalised backgrounds, representatives of minority organisations or youth movements.

Costs

Travel expenses and visa costs will be reimbursed upon presentation of the relevant receipts, according to the rules of the Council of Europe. Only the participants who attend the entire event (pre-Forum meeting and World Forum) can be reimbursed.

Board and lodging are provided and paid for by the Council of Europe (arrival on Monday 16 November and departure on Saturday 21 November). Participants will be lodged at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg (EYCS). The EYCS is fully accessible to young people with disabilities and ready to adapt to young people’s special needs in order to ensure full inclusion and quality working conditions.

Candidates will be informed if their application has been accepted or rejected, and if they have been put on the waiting list, by 16 September 2015.

Twice a year, a group of interesting and impactful people gathers for the week-long TED experience — which attendees have described as “the ultimate brain spa” and “a journey into the future in the company of those creating it.” It’s a winning formula of brilliant, curious minds and groundbreaking content in an immersive and focused environment.

TED stands for Technology, Entertainment, Design — three broad subject areas that are collectively shaping our world. But a TED conference is broader still, showcasing important ideas from any discipline, and exploring how they all connect. The format is fast-paced: 50+ talks over the course of a week, as well as morning and evening get-togethers. As they take in the program, attendees and speakers from vastly different fields can cross-fertilize and draw inspiration from unlikely places. This is the magic of TED.

TED is our historic, flagship event, taking place annually since 1984. TED attracts about 1,300 attendees, and three-quarters of its speakers and attendees are from the US.

TEDGlobal, held annually in Europe, is TED’s twin conference, sharing its format and audience — but with a stronger international approach. Of its 700 attendees, it draws a more global audience and speaker line-up (three-quarters from outside of the US).

Eligibility

Media entrepreneurs, human rights activists and photographers can apply for a TED fellowship to attend a conference in Vancouver, Canada. The program targets candidates ages 21 to 40 from the Asia/Pacific region, Africa, the Caribbean, Latin America and the Middle East, but anyone over 18 is eligible. Applicants must be proficient in English.

Costs

TED pays for round-trip economy airfare, ground transportation to and from the conference location, meals and shared accommodation on site.

The 9th UNESCO Youth Forum in Paris, France

Description

The 9th UNESCO Youth Forum – Young Global Citizens for a Sustainable Planet – will take place in Paris, France on the 26th to the 28th October 2015. The forum will bring together over 500 young women and men from all over the world to focus on issues related to sustainable development and global citizenship and ensure that the voices of future generations remain front and centre of the new development agenda.

Discussions at this years forum will focus on how young people, committing themselves as global citizens, can contribute to the creation of a sustainable planet.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • You should be between 18 and 24 years old at the time of the Forum.
  • You should be able to show some leadership, engagement or initiative undertaken in your community/country/region or globally, preferably related to: 1). the post-2015 process and/or on issues related to the sustainable development goals, with specific focus on education and skills for sustainable development and employability, diversity and culture of peace, or rights and freedoms; OR  2). climate change issues, with specific focus on awareness-raising through media, mobilizing traditional knowledge and local environmental management practices, or youth solutions to address climate change;
  • You should be able to cover the expenses related to your travel and stay in Paris on the occasion of the Forum.
  • You should not have participated in previous editions of the Forum.

AECOM’s Global Student Competition

Description

All Systems Go is the sixth student design competition in AECOM’s Urban SOS program. Urban SOS was created to engage students in urban planning and design, architecture, landscape architecture, economics, environmental studies, and engineering with the issues confronting modern cities and allowing them to propose solutions that, if worthy, will be seen by established professionals in their field. This year, the program is presented in concert with the Van Alen Institute and 100 Resilient Cities –Pioneered by the Rockefeller Foundation.

Eligibility

The competition is open to undergraduate and graduate students at all levels of higher education around the world. Entrants must be enrolled in a certified program during the 2015 academic year at Bachelors, Masters, or Ph.D. levels. Submissions must come from multidisciplinary teams of up to four members; individuals may not participate alone. Students from the design fields (Architecture, Landscape Architecture, Urban Design, Urban Planning) who form teams must include members from at least one other discipline outside of their own, including anthropology, sociology, cultural studies, international development, sustainable economics, engineering, ecology, natural resource science, food policy, and other relevant fields.

Prizes

Three short-listed teams will be invited to present their proposals before an interdisciplinary panel at the A D Museum in Los Angeles in October 2015. Urban SOS: All Systems Go jurors will award $15,000 in prizes, which may be divided among one or more teams. In addition, AECOM will make available up to $25,000 of cash and in-kind staff time to support the implementation of a prototype of the winning team’s strategies.
