The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme 2017-2018

Deadline:  6 January 2017
Open to: International students
Scholarship: For Master’s level studies, a monthly allowance of €1,181 (a maintenance allowance of €1,031 and a monthly stipend of €150) and can be awarded for 12-36 months.  For PhD level studies, monthly allowance of €1,400 and is awarded for a maximum of ten months

Description

The Eiffel Excellence Scholarship Programme was established by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Development to enable French higher education establishments to attract top foreign students to enrol in their master’s and PhD courses. It helps to shape the future foreign decision-makers of the private and public sectors, in priority areas of study, and encourages applications from emerging countries at master’s level, and from emerging and industrialized countries at PhD level.

Eiffel scholarships are available in three main fields:

  1. engineering science at master’s level, science in the broadest sense at PhD level (engineering science; exact sciences: mathematics, physics, chemistry and life sciences, nano- and biotechnology, earth sciences, sciences of the universe, environmental sciences, information and communication science and technology);
  2. economics and management;
  3. law and political sciences.

French higher education establishments nominating candidates for the Eiffel Programme undertake to enrol them:

  • either in a master’s degree course;
  • or in a PhD programme, under joint supervision or dual enrolment, in partnership with a foreign higher education establishment.

For Master’s level studies, the scholarship is awarded for:

  • a maximum of 12 months for entry at M2 level,
  • a maximum of 24 months for entry at M1 level,
  • a maximum of 36 months for an engineering degree.

It is awarded on the condition that the student fulfils the academic requirements of each year of the course. Should the student wish to take an intensive language course beforehand, the Eiffel scholarship duration can be extended by a maximum of two months, if this is clearly indicated in the application. The Eiffel scholarship does not cover the cost of such language courses. The scholarship can cover a period of internship lasting for no more than 25% of the total duration of the course. The training period has to be an integral part of the course and be referred as mandatory in the brochure of the higher education establishment. In any non mandatory internship, the scholarship will be interrupted. If the course includes an international academic exchange, the scholarship shall be suspended during the period spent abroad, without any possibility of extension. If the scholarship holder signs an apprenticeship contract or a professional training contract, the scholarship shall be automatically terminated.

For PhD level studies,  The Eiffel scholarship is awarded for a maximum of ten months. For scientific and economic disciplines, no language course is provided for and the scholarship duration cannot be divided up. For law students, the ten-month scholarship can, with the consent of the selection committee, be split into two or three stays in France, of three or four months each. These stays must take place over a maximum of three calendar years. Only law students have the option of taking French lessons alongside their studies. This must be clearly requested in the application.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Nationality: this programme is reserved for candidates of non-French nationality. Candidates with two nationalities, one of which is French, are not eligible.
  • Age: for master’s courses, candidates must be no older than 30 on the date of the selection committee meeting, 6th of March 2017; at PhD level, candidates must be no older than 35 on the date of the selection committee meeting, 6th of March 2017.
  • Origin of applications: only applications submitted by French educational establishments are accepted. These establishments undertake to enrol scholarship holders on the course for which they have been selected. Applications submitted by any other means shall not be considered. Furthermore, any candidate nominated by more than one establishment shall be disqualified.
  • Courses of study: scholarships are for students wishing to enrol on a master’s course, including at an engineering school, and for PhD students. The Eiffel Programme does not apply to French-run master’s courses abroad, as non-PhD scholarship holders must complete at least 75% of their course in France. It does not apply to training under an apprenticeship contract or a professional training contract either
  • Combination with other scholarships: foreign students who, at the time of application, have already been awarded a French government scholarship under another programme are not eligible, even if the scholarship in question does not include social security cover.
  • Eiffel PhD scholarships: Establishments may nominate a candidate who was previously awarded an Eiffel scholarship at master’s level for a scholarship at PhD level. Candidates who have already been awarded an Eiffel scholarship once during their PhD cannot be awarded it for a second time. No application will be accepted for any student who applied previously but was rejected, even if the application is submitted by a different establishment or in another field of study.
  • Eiffel master’s scholarships: no application will be accepted for any student who applied previously but was rejected, even if the application is submitted by a different establishment or in another field of study. Students who have already been awarded an Eiffel scholarship at master’s level are not eligible to re-apply at master’s level.
  • Language skills: when pre-selecting non-French-speaking candidates, establishments must make sure that their language skills meet the requirements of the relevant course of study.

Students undertaking a course of study abroad take priority over those already living in France.

Nancy Foster Scholarship Program for US Citizens

The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program provides support for master’s and doctoral studies in oceanography, marine biology, maritime archaeology, and all other science, engineering, social science, and resource management disciplines involving ocean and coastal areas, and particularly encourages women and members of minority groups to apply.

Individuals who are U.S. citizens or permanent residents, or citizens of U.S. territories, and are applying to or have been accepted to a graduate program at a U.S. accredited institution, may apply. Prospective scholars do not need to be enrolled in a graduate program at the time of application, but must be admitted to a graduate level program in order to be awarded this scholarship. Scholarship selections are based on academic excellence, letters of recommendations, research and career goals, and financial need. Applicants must have a cumulative 3.3 grade point average to be eligible to apply and maintain a minimum cumulative and term grade point average of 3.3 for every term and for the duration of their award. Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarships may provide, subject to appropriations, yearly support of up to $42,000 per student (a 12-month stipend of $30,000 in addition to an education allowance of up to $12,000) and up to $10,000 of support for a 4-6 week program collaboration at a NOAA facility. Completion of one (1) program collaboration is required for every doctoral scholarship award, with a second recommended, but not required. For master’s degree level scholars, completion of a program collaboration is strongly recommended, but is not required. The Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship funds cannot be used toward research costs. Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program recipients will be required to participate in a mandatory NOAA Orientation Training to meet with the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries staff at a date and location to be determined in the summer of 2017. If scholarships have not been awarded before this training, recipients may be required to incur pre-award costs that will be reimbursed after award funds have been issued. As a recipient of the Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program, you become a recognized member of the NOAA community. NOAA provides significant financial resources to help you pursue your independent graduate studies, as well as the staff expertise to assist you with your research along the way. All Dr. Nancy Foster Scholarship Program recipients must put together an outreach product (e.g., video, infographic) that communicates their scientific research in a way that the average viewer can understand it and its importance. Appropriate training in the creation of outreach products will be provided to all scholarship recipients. The program collaboration opportunity is designed to allow scholars to participate in research or other activities for four to six weeks at a field office of the National Marine Sanctuary System, or other NOAA program offices. Federal support for the program collaboration may be used toward allowable costs such as: travel to and from the NOAA facility, housing, per diem, laboratory costs, research vessel support, and consumables while conducting research at the NOAA facility. Scholars are required to provide their own health insurance coverage during the program collaboration. More details on allowable costs can be found in 2 CFR part 200, Subpart E – Cost Principles. If scholars choose to participate in a program collaboration during a specific year, they must notify the Program Officer by December of the academic year in which they intend to participate in the collaboration. Approval from the NOAA Office of National Marine Sanctuaries is required prior to embarking on the program collaboration. Additional information about the scholarship can be obtained in the full announcement text of the Federal Funding Opportunity – http://www.grants.gov/web/grants/view-opportunity.html?oppId=289616

International Undergraduate Scholarships at Erasmus University in Netherlands, 2017/2018

Deadline:  15 February 2017
Open to: students from all non-EEA countries
Scholarship: approximately 6,900 euro

Description

Rotterdam School of Management, Erasmus University offers scholarships for students from non-EEA countries who are not entitled to pay the EEA tuition fee, provided their grades are considered ‘excellent’. The scholarship will be provided in the form of a waiver from the non-EEA tuition fee.

The scholarship will be awarded for the first year of the IBA programme, provided excellence in previous education is proven. As the scholarship will only be awarded for the first year, students should be aware that they will need to have sufficient means to cover the study costs of the second and third year.

Excellence in previous education is proven if the grade point average achieved at secondary school (measured to date) is at least the equivalent of the Dutch grade of 8.0 on the Dutch grading scale 1 – 10. For prospective students who have also attended higher education after secondary education grades obtained in higher education will be considered as well. The RSM Scholarship Committee will decide on the local grade equivalents for the Dutch grade of 8.0 using (a.o.) the grade information included in the NUFFIC country modules.

Eligibility

Application for the scholarship is open for prospective IBA students (thus, not currently enrolled students) starting their studies in 2017/2018 from all non-EEA countries, provided they would be charged the non-EEA tuition fee. The school may give preference to students with one of the following nationalities:

  • Brazilian
  • Russian
  • Indian
  • Chinese
  • Taiwanese / Korean / Filipino
  • Indonesian / Vietnamese / Thai
  • Iranian / Iraqi
  • Azerbaijani / Georgian
  • Turkish
  • African (all countries)
  • Mexican

Additionally, the school may strive for a certain distribution over the continents.

Only students who are not recipients of any other scholarships exceeding the amount of 5,000 euro in total in that same academic year can apply for the scholarship.

Scholarship

The scholarship takes the form of a waiver being the amount of money that will be subtracted from the full non-EEA tuition fee. The waiver fully covers the difference between the non-EEA tuition fee and the EEA tuition fee. You will always have to pay at least the statutory tuition fee.  For the scholarship, no actual transmission of money takes place. The scholarship part of the non-EEA tuition fee will be subtracted from the full non-EEA tuition fee before the start of the academic year, enabling you to immediately pay the reduced tuition fee; either at once or in instalments.

The amount of the scholarship for the academic year 2017/2018 is approximately 6,900 euro.

By accepting this scholarship you agree to assist the RSM Recruitment and Admissions Office in the role of an Ambassador with promotional and support activities for approximately 8 hours per month during the academic year.

Application

When applying for the IBA programme in the online application form (OLAF) you will be asked to upload documents which will be used for evaluating your application. During this process you can also upload your scholarship application letter (maximum 1 A4 size page). The application letter should include the following information:

  • an explanation why you would need a scholarship, comprising a description of your financial situation;
  • an explanation why you would deserve a scholarship, comprising a description of academic excellence and if applicable other merits.
  • if applicable: certified copies of other scholarships granted;
  • a signed statement indicating that other scholarships awarded do not exceed the amount of 5,000 euro in total;
  • the following documents are not required if you have already uploaded these for admission to the IBA programme: certified copies of the secondary education academic transcript (certified list of grades), and if applicable certified copies of transcripts from a higher education institution: to date, as available at the moment of application (normally already part of your application package).

    Note: Candidates who have fulfilled all the minimum requirements before 1 March will be given priority.

The decisions on the award of the scholarship will be made by the RSM Scholarship Committee.  This scholarship committee will determine award recipient(s) on 15 April 2017.

Please share this call for applications with students and colleagues who work with undergraduates

PREPARING 100 Ph.D. STUDENTS AND PROFESSORS

As part of our RISE for Boys and Men of Color project, the Center for the Study of Race & Equity in Education is preparing 100 Native American, Black, Latino, Asian American and Pacific Islander undergraduate men for doctoral study and eventually for professorships in criminal justice, education, health, workforce development, and fields related to human services and social policy. Three cohorts over the next three years will each include 32-34 undergraduate men of color from colleges and universities across the U.S.

RISE Grad Prep Academy participation includes a four-day visit to the University of Pennsylvania. We will cover each student’s travel expenses, lodging, and meals. During their visit to our campus, academy scholars will learn more about applying to and succeeding in graduate school; meet our faculty and hear about their research projects; interact with our graduate students and alumni; and tour Philadelphia. After the campus visit, scholars will engage in a yearlong series of virtual workshops that introduce them to frameworks and research methods that align with the RISE Principles.

We are also paying for academy scholars to take a four-week Kaplan course valued at $1,200 to prepare for the Graduate Record Exam (GRE). Additionally, each academy participant will be paired with a current Ph.D. student who will offer mentoring throughout the graduate school application process, feedback on essays and other application materials, and advice on where to ultimately enroll.

 screen-shot-2016-09-30-at-7-42-23-pm

Participation in the Academy is limited to undergraduates who are presently in their junior year – those who started their junior year of college in Fall 2016 and will earn bachelor’s degrees in Spring 2018.

SCALING SUCCESS

Penn Professor Shaun R. Harper created the Grad Prep Academy in 2009 for Black undergraduate men interested in earning the Ph.D. in education. Previous Academy scholars have enrolled in Ph.D. programs at Penn GSE, UCLA, University of Michigan, Michigan State University, University of Wisconsin-Madison, Northwestern University, Duke University, and other leading research universities. The first two scholars to complete their doctorates are now tenure-track assistant professors at the University of Virginia and Loyola University Chicago.

The expanded version of the Grad Prep Academy now includes undergraduate men of color from other racial/ethnic groups and extends into the other four RISE fields.

Description

The Oxford-Weidenfeld and Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme was established in 2015 thanks to generous donations from multiple donors to mark the 95th birthday of Lord Weidenfeld.

This scholarship is part of the Oxford Graduate Scholarships, which were established through a groundbreaking new matched funding initiative to enable the creation of fully-funded scholarships for graduate students of the highest calibre from across the world. The University contributes 40% of the funds for these scholarships, together with 60% from generous donations provided by supporters of the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust, including Fondation Hoffmann. Fondation Hoffmann is a Swiss-based grant making institution supporting the emergence and expansion of concrete projects which address global problems in today’s societies.

This scholarship forms part of the wider Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme, managed by the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Trust.  For more information, including details of the leadership programme, please see the Weidenfeld-Hoffmann Scholarships and Leadership Programme web page.
