The ANU Asia Pacific Week 2014, Australia

Deadline:  6 April 2014
Open to: students from across the globe
Venue: 23-26 June 2014, at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia

Description

Asia Pacific Week 2014 will be the fourth conference of its kind hosted by The Australian National University and will explore the theme of ‘GlobaliseAsian’.

Asia’s remarkable rise and economic development means that it is set to make its mark on the world. But is the world ready for a world shaped by Asia? Today, there is a common assumption in the West that as countries modernise, they become more Westernised. This is an illusion and suggests that modernity is simply a product of ideas, systems and technology originating in the West. Instead of an era of globalisation, we are entering a time of ‘GlobaliseAsian’. What this world may look like and how the West can benefit from the East is the focus of Asia Pacific Week 2014.

Bringing together 100 of the best students from across the globe, Asia Pacific week examines significant and controversial issues facing our region, its place in the world and how it is shaping the globe. Th week combines the strength of The Australian National University’s unrivalled expertise in the study of Asia and the Pacific and the resources available in the nation’s capital. The program is sure to engage and intellectually stimulate students and challenge the way they perceive Asia and the Pacific.

The conference also promises to introduce delegates to a network of friends and contacts from across the globe, while encouraging the exchange of ideas with some of the world’s leading Asia Pacific specialists including academics, policymakers and diplomats. As a delegate you will have the opportunity to hear from a myriad of academics and diplomats and engage in interactive and challenging sessions including Q&Asia and The Ambassadors Panel. You will participate in panels, presentations and debates, and go toe-to-toe with many of Australia’s brightest strategic minds The conference will also present delegates with opportunities to exchange and socialise among themselves, providing the next generation of Asia Pacific specialists a network of contacts and friends across the globe.

Asia Pacific Week 2014 will be held between 23 June – 26 June 2014 at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia. If you are interested in attending Asia Pacific Week 2014, please fill out an expression of interest form. Applications open 9am 10 March (AEST) and close midnight 6 April (AEST).

03/01/2014 Deadline for US Paid Federal Internship Opportunities

TWC has internships available during the summer 2014 semester via the Federal Diversity Internship Initiative – and these internships will go fast! Specifically, positions are available with the United States’ Veterans Administration (VA), Federal Aviation Administration (FAA), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), National Archives and Records Administration (NARA), Department of Health and Human Services (HHS) and U.S. Department of Treasury.

Students with Business/Human Resources, Communication, Computer & Information Technology, Engineering, Public Administration and Healthcare-related backgrounds are needed. Internships through the Federal Diversity Internship Initiative are fully-funded and paid opportunities. In addition, some support is provided for travel and other expenses. There is no out-of-pocket cost for participation.

To be considered for this opportunity, applications must be received by March 3, 2014.

To submit the application, you must include basic academic and personal information, your resume and an essay. Letters of recommendation are required, but can arrive after submission. An official transcript will also be required and should be sent as soon as possible. Be sure to choose option 2 (the Federal Diversity Internship Initiative) on the application!
