Excellence Master Fellowships at the Univ. of Geneva

Description

The Faculty of science of the University of Geneva is an internationally top-ranked scientific institution covering a broad range of scientific disciplines: Astronomy, Biology, Chemistry and Biochemistry, Earth Sciences, Environmental Sciences, Computer Sciences, Mathematics, Pharmaceutical Sciences and Physics. The Masters of the Faculty of Science constitute an ideal entry for high-level professional and academic careers. Therefore the Faculty of Science, in collaboration with several sponsors, has established an Excellence Fellowship Program to support outstanding and highly motivated candidates who intend to pursue a Master of Science in any of the disciplines covered by the Faculty (Complete list of the Master programs). French proficiency is not a formal requirement for the Masters of the Faculty of science.

Eligibility

Application for an Excellence Fellowship is open to students from any university with very good performance in their studies (belonging to the best 10% of their bachelor’s program) and that have completed the Bachelor degree or expect to complete it within 6 months. Selection of the applicants will be based on excellence. Evaluation will be made on the basis of the documentation sent by the applicants.

Fellowship

The Excellence Fellowship consists of a grant amounting to CHF 10’000 to CHF 15’000/year (no teaching duties); it is awarded for one year and extended for the regular duration of the chosen Master’s programme (three or four semesters) provided the applicant is academically successful at the end of his/her first semester of studies.

How to apply?

The deadline for applications is 15 March 2016. The application (in English or French) consists of:

  • Application Form (60 Kb, doc);
  • A Curriculum Vitae including the transcript of exams passed during the bachelor education, with grades;
  • A two-page essay in which the applicant describes his/her specific scientific interests, specifies the Master’s program at the Faculty of Science he/her would like to pursue, and motivates the intention to pursue a Master of Science programme at the University of Geneva;
  • If possible: Letters of references from two professors (preferably sent by them directly to the e-mail address indicated below). They should specifically attest if the candidate fulfills the conditions of the Excellence Fellowship Program (see above);
  • Any other pertinent information like results of GRE (General requirement examination), of TOEFL or other language test.

Travel Film Scholarship 2015

Aspiring documentary makers can apply for a mentored trip to capture the culture and the communities of Colombia’s Pacific Coast.

World Nomads is accepting applications for a travel documentary scholarship. The trip will take place Nov. 21 to Dec. 3.

The winner will spend seven days filming in Colombia under the mentorship of filmmaker and director Brian Rapsey, followed by three days in a post-production workshop in Bogotá.

Applicants must be proficient in English.

Study in Israel | Israel Government Scholarships

Description

The Foreign Ministry formulates, implements and presents the foreign policy of the Government of Israel. It represents the state vis-a-vis foreign governments and international organizations, explains its positions and problems throughout the world, endeavors to promote its economic, cultural, and scientific relations, and fosters cooperation with developing countries. Israel currently maintains diplomatic relations with 162 countries.

The Government of Israel is pleased to offer scholarships to foreign students. Students can choose either a short-term scholarship or a long-term scholarship.

Short Term Scholarship – granted for a Summer Language Course (Ulpan). At present the Ulpan course that they offer is a 3-4 week program at the Ulpan of the University Haifa.

Long Term Scholarship – granted for a period of maximum 8 months (one academic year). Students may apply to the programs are listed below:

  • Post Doctorate Program: Students will need to present a research plan and an acceptance letter from an Israeli supervisor at one of the Israeli universities;
  • Research program: Students may create their own research program under the supervision of an Israeli supervisor from one of the Israeli universities. Candidates will need to present a research plan and an acceptance letter;
  • PhD Students: PhD students who are registered for PhD studies in Israel may apply for a one academic year (8 months) scholarship from the Ministry. This scholarship is not renewable and the student will need to find other sources to finance the full degree. Registration to the PhD program is the student’s responsibility. The student will need to meet the Israeli university requirements for the PhD program;
  • MA students: MA students who are registered for MA studies in Israel to apply for a one academic year (8 months) scholarship from the Ministry. This scholarship is not renewable and the student will need to find other sources to finance the full degree. Registration to the MA program is at the student’s responsibility and the student will need to meet the university requirements for the MA program;
  • Overseas and International programs: It is possible to register to one of the Overseas or International Programs under the following restrictions: The scholarship will be given for one academic year (8 months) only and not for the full program. Tuition fees will not include extra courses such as summer Ulpan, Arabic language course, or any other additional course offered by the Overseas or International Program;
  • Special Programs: Some Israeli universities offer special post-graduate programs in English. It is possible to register to one of these special programs under the following restrictions: The scholarship will be given for one academic year (8 months) only and not the full program.

Eligibility

  • The applicant should hold a BA or BSc degree (or higher) and have a good record of academic achievement;
  • The applicant should be a citizen of the country where he/she applies for the scholarship and be under the age of 35 (at the beginning of the academic year);
  • Proof of English or Hebrew language proficiency;
  • The applicants should meet the academic requirements of the Israeli University to which they apply. A scholarship will be granted only after the required institute approves the acceptance of the candidate.

Scholarship

The scholarships are of two types: Full and Partial Scholarships.

Full scholarship includes:

  • Tuition fee;
  • Monthly allowance for one academic year (8 months only);
  • Basic health insurance.

Partial scholarship includes:

  • Part of the tuition fee;
  • Monthly allowance for one academic year (8 months only);
  • Basic health insurance.
  • Accommodation, transportation and travel arrangements to and from Israel are the applicant’s responsibility;
  • Scholarships will be granted only for study in universities and programs approved by the Israeli Council for Higher Education;
  • Scholarships for Ulpan language studies will be granted in the Ulpan chosen by the Ministry of foreign Affairs.

How to apply?

Date for the submission of application forms is different in each country but normally is no later than November 30. It is very advisable to contact your local Israeli embassy to verify the date for submitting applications and to receive more detailed information concerning the process of choosing the candidates for scholarship from your country.

Applications should include:

  • Completed application form;
  • Detailed letter describing the field the applicant intends to study in Israel, specifying the University he/she wishes to attend;
  • Curriculum Vitae;
  • Copies of letters exchanged with Israeli universities or the Israeli supervisor (in the case of a research or post doctorate);
  • Official original academic records (or notarized copies) of all relevant studies and test scores, diplomas attesting the completion of an academic degree, including a transcript of the student’s records;
  • At least two (2) letters of recommendation from lecturers/professors who taught the candidate;
  • Three (3) photographs;
  • Certificate of health.

All of the above should be printed in English and submitted in three (3) copies to the Israeli embassy in the applicant’s country.

White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (WHIAAPI) Opportunities

WHIAAPI is pleased to launch the application for its E3! Ambassadors Program for the 2015-2016 year. The E3! Ambassadors Program equips young leaders with the opportunity to work with the federal government to brainstorm and implement their own unique ideas to help improve the overall quality of life for AAPIs across the country in the areas of education, mental health, pathways to public service, and immigration. The 2014 inaugural class of 31 E3! Ambassadors came from 29 different cities and hosted more than 55 events during the 2014-2015 year to educate, engage, and empower their campuses and communities. Application Deadline Extended for Fall 2015 Internship Program

The application deadline for the WHIAAPI Fall 2015 Internship Program has been extended to August 7. Interns at the Initiative are responsible for assisting the staff on a wide range of Asian American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) issues and priorities.  In addition, interns will help write policy memos and proposals, draft blogs, assist with communications and social media, coordinate and staff events, and conduct outreach to national and local AAPI organizations and leaders. Young AAPI Leaders Convene for the Fifth White House AAPI Youth Forum

On July 9, the White House Initiative on Asian Americans and Pacific Islanders (AAPI), the White House Office of Public Engagement (OPE), and the East Coast Asian American Student Union (ECAASU) hosted the fifth White House AAPI Youth Forum and launched the second year of the Initiative’s E3! Ambassadors youth engagement program. Over 150 young AAPI leaders attended the event, along with leaders in the Administration and community organizations throughout the country. Read more.

EMGIP

The Émigré Memorial German Internship Program–German State Parliaments (EMGIP) is a fellowship program that provides U.S. and Canadian students with internships at a German state parliament (Landtag).

Internships afford students an excellent opportunity to gain government work experience, improve their advanced German language skills, and learn about German culture firsthand.

This professional opportunity overseas is ideal for students planning on pursuing careers at a regional level of government in the United States or Canada, or who have an interest in a specific policy issue such as the environment, education, or healthcare.

EMGIP runs three times a year—fall, spring, and early summer—for one to three months, depending on elections, holiday schedules and state offices’ preferences.

  • High-intermediate German skills (oral & written). Candidates must be able and willing to communicate in German and possess good command of professional vocabulary in field.
  • Minimum of two years of university level studies in a field related to one of the following: international relations, public administration, political science, law, economics, European studies with emphasis on Germany, German or German studies, with a minor in one of the fields listed
  • Some relevant work experience (e.g. internship, volunteer work, summer job). It is important that a candidate knows how to adjust to a professional environment and how to use theoretical skills in the workplace.

2015 Full Master Scholarships at South Australia University

Description

The University of South Australia is a globally-focused, locally-engaged institution established on the dual principles of equity and excellence. With more than 33,000 students, the university is South Australia’s largest and has more than 10,000 International students.

The University of South Australia is inviting applications for the President’s Scholarships available for Australian and International students and awarded on the basis of academic merit. Scholarships are available to support students enrolling in areas of research concentration and research strength and are nearly always given to doctorate by research candidates but can be given to masters by research candidates in some cases.

Eligibility

In order to be eligible for the scholarship you must have a University of South Australia supervisor willing to nominate you for consideration and outstanding academic records, and be a citizen of an overseas country eligible for entry to Australia for the time required to complete the research degree.

Criteria for Australian applicants:

  • Generally an applicant must have first-class Honours or equivalent to be eligible;
  • Scholarships are awarded on the basis that the candidate will be studying full-time. In some cases, candidates can apply to receive scholarships on a part-time basis if there are compelling social reasons (eg the need to provide full-time care of children, disabled, sick, injured or elderly). The need to undertake part- or full-time work is not considered a compelling social reason.

Criteria for International applicants:

  • Generally an applicant must have first-class Honours or equivalent to be eligible;
  • An awardee must be enrolled on a full-time basis as a candidate for a Masters by Research or PhD at the University of South Australia.
  • An awardee shall be enrolled as an internal candidate at the University of South Australia.

Scholarship

The UPS scholarship includes a living allowance of at least $25,849 per annum. In addition UPS will cover tuition fees and Overseas Student Health Cover.

2015 Economic Forum of Young Leaders in Nowy Sącz, Poland

Open to: young leaders from EU, Eastern Europe, the Balkans and the Caucasus with communicative knowledge of English and engagement in a political, civic, social or economic NGO and other institutions

Description

Over 350 young leaders from 42 countries meet in Poland to come up with new ideas for the future of Europe. During mutual discussions and workshops new ideas are developed, new inspirations are created and new decisions on taking mutual actions are made. They are meant to generate a change in the future. It is here that future elites acquire their knowledge.

The 10th Economic Forum of Young Leaders takes place between 7th and 11th of September 2015 in Nowy Sącz (south of Poland). The 10th Economic Forum of Young Leaders is the biggest international social and economic meeting of young leaders.

The programme includes panel discussions, lectures, business presentations, thematic workshops focused on the following areas:

  • international security
  • the future of Europe and the Euro-Atlantic zone
  • economic growth
  • youth enterpreneurship
  • business management
  • the leadership and the role and tasks for the young generation in the contemporary world

Eligibility

The minimum criterion is knowledge of English at communicative level and engagement in a political, civic, social or economic NGO or institution/organisation. If candidate meets these standards they assess his/her: experience in work in civic NGOs, political and economic areas and current involvement, additional experience gained in different seminars and courses etc.

Costs

All participants need to pay a participation fee. Participation fee covers accommodation, meals, conference materials, certificate and the participation in all panel discussions, workshops and debates of the 10th Economic Forum of Young Leaders as well as in the 25th Economic Forum in Krynica (Partner’s event). Participation fee is 150 EUR, the organizers do not cover travel cost.

Application

All prospective participants need to be less than 35 years old, speak good English and be active in political, social and economic life in an NGO or other institution/organization. The organizers will also assess prospective participants’ experience in the fields of social, economic and political affairs. Participation in courses, trainings, seminars, affiliation to NGOs will be an asset.

The main aim of the Forum is to gather a diversified group of people from different backgrounds and countries, hence the organizers kindly ask to register only one person per organization. For underrepresented countries and regions the organizers can accept more than one participant per organization.

Peace Direct is launching our third ‘Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders’ awards to showcase the best locally led peacebuilding organisations across the world. Entrants will need to show how they are making communities more peaceful, or breaking the cycle of violence. And there are special prizes for technology and peacebuilding and photography and peace.

 

A jury of international peacebuilding experts will select the winning entries. To be eligible, your work must fit into the categories:

 

  • Women-led peacebuilding
  • Youth peacebuilding
  • Environmental peacebuilding
  • Inter-religious peacebuilding
  • Arts and peacebuilding

 

The three winning organisations will receive:

  • $10,000 prize funding for peacebuilding activities.

The Academy Scholars Program at Harvard University

Fellowship: annual stipend of USD 67,000 for postdoctoral scholars; annual stipend of USD 31,000 predoctoral scholars

Description

The Academy Scholars Program identifies and supports outstanding scholars at the start of their careers whose work combines disciplinary excellence in the social sciences (including history and law) with a command of the language, history, or culture of non-Western countries or regions. Their scholarship may elucidate domestic, comparative, or transnational issues, past or present.

Academy Scholars are appointed for two years by the Harvard Academy for International and Area Studies and are provided time, guidance, and access to Harvard University facilities. They receive substantial financial and research assistance to undertake sustained projects of research and/or acquire accessory training in their chosen fields and areas. The Senior Scholars, a distinguished group of senior Harvard University faculty members, act as mentors to the Academy Scholars to help them achieve their intellectual potential.

Eligibility

This call is open only to recent PhD (or comparable professional school degree) recipients and doctoral candidates. Those still pursuing a PhD should have completed their routine training and be well along in the writing of their theses before applying to become Academy Scholars; those in possession of a PhD longer than three years are ineligible.

Fellowship

Postdoctoral Academy Scholars will receive an annual stipend of USD 67,000, and predoctoral Academy Scholars will receive an annual stipend of USD 31,000. This stipend is supplemented by funding for conference and research travel, research assistants, and health insurance coverage. Some teaching is permitted but not required.

Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography announces an open call for young and emerging artists from SEE region working in the field of contemporary photography:
DIFFERENT WORLDS – Young Contemporary Photography
Young Contemporary Photography is an initiative that encourages, evaluates and promotes developments of young, non-yet-established, and emerging generations of artists and photographers, up to 35 years of age. In its third edition the contest entitled Different Worlds follows the idea of “creativity and diversity”.

Therefore we call upon all interested artists who meet the conditions of the contest to apply and take part at the group exhibition in Ljubljana.
Artists will be selected by an independent and international jury: Miha Colner (Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography, Ljubljana), Susanne Gamauf (Fotogalerie Wien, Vienna) and Gabriella Uhl (freelance curator, Budapest).

The contest is open to artists up to 35 years of age (including those born in 1980) who live and work in the states of Western Balkans / former Yugoslavia (Slovenia, Croatia, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo, Macedonia) or who come from these states and live and work abroad, i.e.:

  • students and graduates of the art, photography or any other academies;
  • artists who don’t have formal education and are active in this field;

The contest does not have prescribed theme. We accept works that fall into the wide range of photographic and with photography associated practices (such as photography, photo-montage, photo-collage, photo-installation, appropriation of found photographs, etc.)

The application must contain:

  • portfolio of maximum two completed or ongoing projects / series of photographs (each containing up to 20 images) – in PDF or JPG format;
  • project description(s) in English language up to 1500 characters;
  • biography of the applicant;
  • additional technical specifications; formats and dimensions of works, optimal presentation within the exhibition format, etc. (when applicable);

Each artist / photographer can apply maximum two separate projects to the contest.
Materials can be sent digitally (via email) or physically (via post); however, we recommend the former as we can not return the materials – the exception is direct takeover at Photon in Ljubljana).

Selected artists will be displayed at the group exhibition at Kino Šiška and Photon – Centre for Contemporary Photography. The exhibition will be accompanied with a small catalogue and extensive side programme.
The works selected for the exhibition could be entirely or partially produced at in Ljubljana.

The jury will select ten artists who will be displayed at the exhibition in Ljubljana, and among them three laureates whose works will be extensively presented at Photon, while the rest of the artist will be presented at the group show at Kamera Gallery, Kino Šiška (just across the square).
The laureates will receive practical awards.

The applicants shall submit their applications until 28 September 2015 to the following address:
