Description

The Eastern Mediterranean International School (EMIS) is a unique international boarding high school with a mission of making education a force for peace and sustainability in the Middle East. Located in Hakfar Hayarok, a youth village and educational campus at the center of Israel. The student body comprises students from the Eastern Mediterranean and the Middle Eastern regions, along with students from all over the world. EMIS’s academic program  follows the International Baccalaureate Diploma Program. Eligibility

  • Applicants must be 16 or 17 year old during 2016;
  • Be very good students, able to be independent learners and thinkers, and be able to study in English the high-level academic material of the International Baccalaureate (IB) Diploma (www.ibo.org);
  • Have good spoken and written English;
  • Have demonstrated significant community involvement or leadership activity;
  • Be curious, and excited about learning in a different environment;
  • Open to new experiences, cultures and people, able to practice tolerance through living and sharing with peers from different cultures and socioeconomic backgrounds.

Students are selected based on merit, from all over over the world, and offered need-based full and partial scholarships.

How to apply?

The application process is entirely online. First you need to fill out the application form afterwards you will have access to your personal account. Initial consultations and interviews can all be done via Skype or phone.

Please note that you will need the following documents:

  • A legible photocopy of your passport;
  • A legible photocopy of both parents passports;
  • 2 recommendation letters –  at least one letter needs to be from an academic teacher, the other may come from an extracurricular supervisor – both should have known the applicant for more than a year;
  • Your previous year’s report card, and by February 2016 this year’s mid-year report card (if not in English, an English translation must be provided);
  • Your vaccinations  report;
  • A health form signed by your doctor;
  • Any other proof of your extracurricular activities;
  • A registration fee of 50 USD paid via Credit Card or Bank Transfer.

YouthMUN Model UN Conference 2016 in Baku, Azerbaijan

Description

YouthMUN is a Model UN conference organized by ADA University Model United Nations club with support of Ministry of Youth and Sport, and UNDP Azerbaijan. The club, operating since 2012, aims to promote education through simulation of different UN bodies where students from various countries all around the world get a chance to practice their knowledge in academic debates. ADA MUN provides a platform for young and talented people to discuss global issues from the role of global leaders.

In this year’s session three different committees will be simulated with the below given topics:

  1. United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime: “Preventing drug use among youth”
  2. International Court of Justice: “Marshall Islands vs UK”;

YouthMUN Conference sessions will take place on May 28, 29. ADAMUN club will hold opening ceremony of the conference at 18:00, May 27 with the participation of official guests from university and sponsor institutions.

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Have a good command of English;
  • Have an interest in politics and diplomatic negotiations
  • Be available on the event days;

Costs

Participation fee in this event is 25 AZN, which includes lunch, coffee break, and conference materials. You may also apply forSCHOLARSHIPS provided by Ministry of Youth and Sport, and UNDP Azerbaijan. The scholarships will be allocated among first-time participants and experienced MUNers on equal basis. Shortlisted applicants will be invited for interview starting from May 14.

The selection of the all participants will be based on responses to essay questions regarding motivation as well as past and future involvement in issues to be tackled during the Model UN conference.  In addition, the organizers will take a look at your professional and/or educational and/or volunteering background to see how it is positioning you in a way that would help you disseminate what you will learn. Also, the applicants’ level of English proficiency will play a role in the selection process. The scholarships will be allocated among first-time participants and experienced MUNers on equal basis. The Global Peter Drucker Challenge organized by the Peter Drucker Society Europe and aims at raising awareness of the works and humanistic values of Peter Drucker among young people – the new generation poised to build on a management philosophy that puts the human being at its center. The competition is designed to complement and enrich the interdisciplinary exchange of views and ideas at the Global Peter Drucker Forum.

Peter Drucker Challenge invite you to submit an essay covering the topic “The New Entrepreneurs – Movers and Shakers in Economy and Society?

Essay submissions will be evaluated according to:
  • The way you describe your personal insights based on;
  • Peter Drucker’s essay “Managing Oneself”;
  • The way you are translating Peter Drucker’s people-centered management philosophy in our times as a basis for further reflections;
  • The way you connect the past and the future from your own cultural point of view;

The GPCF is an annual conference aimed at advancing the development of management thinking and practice in order to respond to the changing requirements in our societies. The 8th Global Peter Drucker Forum  will take place in Vienna, Austria, on 17 and 18 November 2016. This year’s topic is “The Entrepreneurial Society“.

GYLTLC aims to bring student leaders worldwide, through engaging activities, to enhance their abilities in cross-cultural interaction and cooperation, which will further equip them to be effective leaders. In addition, participants will be able to understand more about Singapore – a multiracial, multilingual and multicultural society from various perspectives. Nevertheless, what they will learn here may not only be unique to Singapore, but also applicable to their home countries as well as the increasingly interconnected and interdependent world.

GYLTLC is an annual gathering for student leaders from Top Universities around the world. The said camp provides our participants an exceptional opportunity:

  • All nationalities (subject to obtaining a Spanish visa), however, you must have an exceptionally high degree of proficiency in written and spoken English;
  • Be comfortable in front of the camera, and sharing your emotions and opinions with the world.

Global Youth Rising Summer Camp 2016

Description

GYR Summer Camp is a space in the beautiful Romanian countryside where dedicated, passionate, motivated youth activists and peacebuilders from across the globe come together to learn, share, build and exchange their experiences from their movements and organizations. GYR is a space where youth already involved in organizations, movements and initiatives within their countries or globally will share and learn together while supported and empowered by experienced peace workers from a number of key organizations in the field of peacebuilding. This exciting summer camp will include a variety of workshops and training sessions on key topics in the field, as well as seminars, film showings, discussions, exchanges, planning spaces, as well as the chance to hike and explore the surrounding countryside. This is a space not only for preparing people to change the world in the future, but to bring together those of you who are already doing so today.

The GYR summer camp offers a variety of engaging and empowering workshops and training sessions that aim to develop the knowledge, practical skills and capacities of people in the field of activism and peacebuilding. It is a horizontal forum for sharing, learning and collaboration, where co-creation and joint movements can arise and strong new movements can be created.

The main topics and themes are:

• tackling violent extremism, radicalisation, discrimination and prejudice;

• psychological well-being, inner peace and self-care: looking after yourself as a practitioner;

• working with and healing from trauma (with a focus on conflict and refugee situations);

• peace education;

• practical peacebuilding skills, e.g. project development, organising and fundraising, working with digital and social media/IT;

• the environmental and its relation to peace;

• building a global solidarity movement with Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen supporting the people’s and activists peace movements in these countries.

We will announce the official list of workshops and training sessions as these are confirmed.

 

Currently announced sessions will include:

• Youth participation: What does it mean, what are people’s experiences of it?

• Advocacy: How to lobby your government, the EU or the UN for your issues;

• Innovative approaches to peacebuilding: the use of theatre and the arts in peace (delivered by facilitators from Istanbouli Theatre);

• Perceptions and mindsets: European perceptions of asylum seekers and refugees and how we can start to change them;

• Peace education: Using experiential learning for peace education; transformational approaches to peace education;

• Activist TV: how to make a video story to show your activist work;

• Self-care and inner balance: from inner peace to world peace

• Self-development: a 3-day course on stress managements, breathing techniques (delivered by the International Association of Human Values)

• Dealing with and healing from trauma: Moving from blame to empathy and forgiveness (delivered by Jo Berry from Building Bridges to Peace)

• Designing and implementing effective peace programs and projects

Objectives:

  • Increasing youth activists and peacebuilders’ capacities in the fields of conflict transformation, practical peacebuilding skills, activism on a variety of important topics and to develop practical skills that will benefit youth activists/peaceworkers and their organizations/communities.
  • Creating a forum for sharing, cooperation and exchange between participants from different backgrounds and to create collaborative movements between organizations worldwide.
  • Linking young activists from the MENA region with young activists from Europe and to look at starting to build a true international solidarity and support movement for peacebuilding in Syria, Libya, Iraq and Yemen.
  • Developing of a strong social, organizational and field-based network to continue the sharing and development of ideas and relationships beyond the physical gathering.
  • Full support and follow-up will be given, including a briefing before coming to Romania; an invitation to an online discussion and learning space where participants can meet each other before the summer camp, take part in discussions facilitated by our organizers and share resources before they meet in person. During the camp, participants will be supported through daily morning meetings with the chance to learn powerful techniques for psychological wellbeing; high quality training sessions and workshops delivered by our expert trainers; one-to-one support, coaching or mentoring from facilitators and trainers; the creation of a strategic plan of action. After the course, participants will be able to access support, mentoring, and advice from facilitators and trainers; follow-up Skype calls, and continued access to an online discussion group.

Eligibility

Global Youth Rising Summer Camp 2016 is open to youth workers, peacebuilders and activists aged 18 – 30 (although older participants are welcome to apply).

Costs

We aim to keep costs as low as possible in the interests of making the camp as accessible as possible.

Course contributions are:

  • OECD participants: 500 EUR
  • Non-OECD participants: 300 EUR

A 10% discount is also available for anybody who applies and pays the fees before 30th March 2016. Organizations sending 5 or more participants can receive an additional 10% discount.

VGIK International Summer School for Filmmakers in Russia

Russian State University of Cinematography named after S. A. Gerasimov is calling international students to take part in the 8th VGIK International Summer School. The program of the VGIK International Summer School consists of two sections:

  • Documentary section takes place in Petrozavodsk, an old Russian city, well-known for its history, architecture, sceneries, and its cultural heritage;
  • Animation section will be held at VGIK Animation & Multimedia Department film studios in Moscow.

Note: duration period of animation section is shorter.

At the VGIK International Summer School you get engaged in various shooting-oriented workshops, tutorials, and trainings carried out by widely recognized European and Russian filmmakers.

The aim of the school is:

  • To gain extra knowledge and acquire practical training in the field of cinematography;
  • To establish academic and creative connections among the students of film schools from all over the world;
  • To exchange knowledge and experience in the field of film education.

Eligibility

If you are a student of Film Direction, Cinematography, Animation & Multimedia, or Computer Graphics Department, you are welcome to apply for the VGIK International Summer School.

Costs

The organizers will provide accommodations, meals and local transportation, as well as the necessary equipment during filming sessions for selected participants.
