Description

The 2014 Summer School “Cross Continental – Interethnic Relations for Peace” is to be held in Sarajevo, the capital of Bosnia and Herzegovina. Sarajevo is known as the place where east meets west, where a truly multicultural and multiethnic spirit persists – Sarajevo is often called the European Jerusalem, making it particularly appealing for a comprehensive program offered to our international participants. Furthermore, 2014 marks the 100th year of the beginning of the WWI to be remembered with several peace events in Sarajevo.

This Summer School will serve as an alternative to numerous other events and ceremonies to mark the happenings during the month of June. The city of Sarajevo will draw worldwide attention during this month where we want to take the opportunity of this occasion to promote peace and international cooperation. Hence, we have chosen this time for the Summer School to contribute to the commemorative event series.

Eligibility

We welcome all undergraduate and graduate students as well as applicants who have been away from education for some years. We invite applications from undergraduate and graduate students interested in the topics related to international relations, conflict analysis and resolution, peace research, security studies, preventing diplomacy, international law, sociology and ethnicity, from all countries. Although most of you will be currently enrolled at a university or college, we also welcome applicants who have been away from education for some years.

Do you want to win a TRIP to one of the world’s paradise islands ?

Deadline: 4 April 2014
Open to: any video enthusiast or amateur videographer, age 18 and above
Awards: a trip to an island to video blog for a major UN event.

Description

Put your creativity and video skills to work in defense of the small islands. Capture in an engaging, visually creative, two-minute video what World Environment Day 2014 is all about and get a chance to win a trip to a stunning island to cover a UN event!

The World Environment Day 2014 theme is about Small Islands Development States (SIDS). Raise your voice, not the sea level. WED 2014 will shine the spotlight on Small Islands and their unique development challenges and successes. Climate change is foremost among these challenges.

We are looking for original and engaging ways of delivering this message through a video – a short and creative movie of no more than 2 minutes that can be made with your mobile phone or home camera and in your own language.  You don´t need to be a professional movie maker or to write a film script, but you have to try to find the most interesting and universally appealing way of telling the WED message to the world!

Eligibility

Any video enthusiast or amateur videographer, age 18 and above, can enter the competition. Please note that we are accepting entries in as many languages as possible to ensure we receive a wide representation from many parts of the world.

Awards

The exciting news is that the best video will be chosen by Hollywood Star and UNEP Goodwill Ambassador Don Cheadle, and the winner will travel to one of the world’s paradise islands to video blog for a major UN event.

Additional awards (Recognition for Effort, Best School Award, School Incentive Award) will be given if applicable. Winners will be announced in November 2014 on the Goi Peace Foundation web-site and UNESCO web-site.

Application

The competition  is free to enter. Participants may submit more than one video. However, a participant can only have one entry at the final showdown. Competition accepts entries in all languages but we would like to encourage all participants to aim for universality with their approach (i.e. the message can be understood by as broad an audience as possible). Participants who don´t use English in their video messages are requested to send a translation of the script. Submissions received after the 4th of April will not be considered.  All entries that exceed 2 minutes will be disqualified.

Deadline:  6 April 2014
Open to: students from across the globe
Venue: 23-26 June 2014, at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia

Asia’s remarkable rise and economic development means that it is set to make its mark on the world. But is the world ready for a world shaped by Asia? Today, there is a common assumption in the West that as countries modernise, they become more Westernised. This is an illusion and suggests that modernity is simply a product of ideas, systems and technology originating in the West. Instead of an era of globalisation, we are entering a time of ‘GlobaliseAsian’. What this world may look like and how the West can benefit from the East is the focus of Asia Pacific Week 2014.

Bringing together 100 of the best students from across the globe, Asia Pacific week examines significant and controversial issues facing our region, its place in the world and how it is shaping the globe. Th week combines the strength of The Australian National University’s unrivalled expertise in the study of Asia and the Pacific and the resources available in the nation’s capital. The program is sure to engage and intellectually stimulate students and challenge the way they perceive Asia and the Pacific.

The conference also promises to introduce delegates to a network of friends and contacts from across the globe, while encouraging the exchange of ideas with some of the world’s leading Asia Pacific specialists including academics, policymakers and diplomats. As a delegate you will have the opportunity to hear from a myriad of academics and diplomats and engage in interactive and challenging sessions including Q&Asia and The Ambassadors Panel. You will participate in panels, presentations and debates, and go toe-to-toe with many of Australia’s brightest strategic minds The conference will also present delegates with opportunities to exchange and socialise among themselves, providing the next generation of Asia Pacific specialists a network of contacts and friends across the globe.

Asia Pacific Week 2014 will be held between 23 June – 26 June 2014 at the Australian National University, Canberra, Australia.
