Description

International Manga Award (国際漫画賞 Kokusai manga shou) is an annual award established to encourage non-Japanese manga artists in 2007. This award was created by Japanese Foreign Minister Tarō Asō, who proposed this award in a policy speech he gave in Tokyo’s Akihabara district in 2006. The Award is often considered the most prestigious prize for non-Japanese manga artists. The selection is managed by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Japan. Annually, award honorees are recommended by the advisers including Machiko Satonaka and many other great manga artists.

On April 24,2015, the Ninth International MANGA Award Executive Committee (Chairman : Mr.Fumio Kishida, Minister for Foreign Affairs) decided to hold the Ninth International MANGA Award.

Eligibility

The competition is open to anyone.

The MANGA works (24 or more pages) must have been produced outside Japan.

Both published and unpublished works are eligible, but the MANGA works should have been produced within three years proceeding the date of application (2012-2015).

The works must be submitted in printed form.

International Youth Initiative Program in Järna, Sweden

The International Youth Initiative Program (YIP) is a holistic educational program that strengthens young people’s capacity to take initiative in the face of current global challenges.

The purpose of the International Youth Initiative Program is to foster in young people a holistic understanding of the current challenges humanity faces and to empower them to use entrepreneurial principles and skills to create initiatives and change within themselves that meet these challenges while practising collaboration and moral integrity.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Are you between 18 & 28 years old?
  • Do you have a basic sense of the global challenges we are facing as humanity?
  • Do you want to understand these challenges better?
  • Do you want to learn how to work together with other people in creating a better world?

The Program Cost per participant is SEK 100.000.-  For current exchange rates, see table on the left of this page. Please consider that this price includes lodging (for the year) and food (during the course-week) when you eventually compare these costs to other programs or studies.

Specifically, it includes:

  • The Program, Courses, Course Materials and Evening Activities
  • Organic Meals
  • (Breakfast, Lunch & Dinner from Monday – Friday, not during holidays)
  • Accommodation (single-sex twin-share bedrooms on campus)

This amount does not cover the full costs of running the Program, which are fundraised by the YIP Organization. Depending on the number of participants, the full costs are around SEK 150.000.-

The DRC Summer School on Regional Co-operation

Description

The DRC Summer School project was initiated by IDM (Institute for the Danube Region and Central Europe) and International House Pécs in 2003 to promote regional co-operation among young social scientists. Its general aim is the establishment of a network of young scientists who deal with the issue of regional co-operation as Central European perspective, and thus the institutionalisation of the Summer School for the future. The 11th summer school is another step towards enhancing and deepening scientific co-operations in Central Europe, among the project partners, i.e. institutions from the V4 countries, the Ukraine, Austria and some Western Balkan countries. Since 2007 the IDM is represented in the project by Dr. Susan Milford whereas IDResearch Ltd. is represented by Dr. István Tarrósy, managing director, and former managing director of the Regional European Information and Education Centre PBC who has been implementing the project with the Austrian partners for nine years.

The 11th edition of the Summer School lies its focus on the countries of the Danube region as the Danube Rectors’ Conference provides a platform for the collaboration of 50 institutions of higher education from 13 countries in the Danubian region.

The Summer School will take place between 5–12 July 2015 at BOKU, Vienna, Austria.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • Young scientists from the Danube Region and Central Europe who have records in Political Science or other social science disciplines.
  • Graduates who want to present their research projects to the students of the Summer School in the lectures.
  • Interested persons from regional organisations, public administration and scientific institutions.

Costs

The registration fee of the Summer School is EUR 200.-, the contribution to the expenses for board and accommodation is EUR 230.

Please note that it is possible to apply for a scholarship on board and accommodation as well as on a partial travel reimbursement (limited to EUR 100.

The deadline for application is June 7, 2015, after the acceptance of your paper the registration and board and accommodation fees have to be paid by June 26, 2015. Please find more details on the application form.

Early Bird registration: There is a possibility to register as an ‘Early bird’. If you submit your paper and application form before April 5, 2015, you pay only half (50%) of the registration fee. International Symposium on Gender and Aesthetics: Art, Film and Literature

The Gender and Women’s Studies Forum at Sabanci University invites proposals for the symposium, “Gender and Aesthetics: Art, Film, and Literature,” which will take place on November 6-8, 2015 in Istanbul.

The symposium aims to explore how gender informs the theory, history, creation, and reception of art and literature and how art and literature influence and challenge definitions and experiences of gender and sexuality. Materials for the presentations may be drawn from literature, art, film, popular culture, theatre, dance, and related fields. Theoretical and interdisciplinary approaches focusing on specific texts, themes or formal issues are welcome. Some topics that may be addressed in this context are:

  • Gender, sexuality, and self as artistic and cultural constructs
  • Gendered and queer representations and reconfigurations of the body, space, temporality
  • Gendered and queer representations and reconfigurations of desire and transgression
  • Literary and artistic explorations of the relations, tensions, intersections between class, race, ethnicity, gender, and sexuality
  • Literary and artistic expressions of crises in gender and sexual roles and identities
  • Gendered definitions and practices of authorship, creativity, influence, and artistic authority
  • The role gender norms and constructs play in establishing, reproducing, or contesting aesthetic values, traditions, and hierarchies
  • Literary and artistic experimentation as a strategy for re-conceiving gender and sexuality
  • Feminist and queer perspectives on subjects such as language, the gaze, the self-portrait, autobiography
  • The relationship between gender and conceptions of beauty, taste, and the body

 

The symposium will be in English and Turkish. Proposals for 20 minute presentations should be about 300 words and sent to genderforum@sabanciuniv.edu by June 1, 2015.

Master in International Peace Studies, University of Notre Dame, USA

Description

The Kroc Institute’s Master’s Degree in International Peace Studies at the University of Notre Dame will prepare you for a career in public policy, political change, organizational management or conflict analysis and transformation.

The 2-year master’s program includes:

  • Coursework in peace and justice theory, contemporary conflicts and strategies of peace, and career paths in public policy, political change, management, and conflict analysis and transformation;
  • Six months internship at leading organizations in Asia, Africa, Latin America, the Middle East, or the United States, strengthening professional skills;
  • Make connections and join a global network of Kroc Institute alumni at work in nearly 100 countries around the world.

As a complement to their academic classwork, every student takes a two-semester Professional Development Seminar, designed to enhance leadership skills, support planning for vocational direction, and sharpen tools for professional success.

Eligibility

Admission to the Kroc Institute’s master’s program is highly selective. Successful candidates have outstanding academic credentials as well as work experience (paid or volunteer) in areas related to peace and justice. Applications are welcome from the candidates of all nationalities.

Scholarship

The scholarship covers the full cost of two years of graduate tuition. Master’s students also receive a stipend for housing and living expenses, and support for the 6-month internship, including travel to and from a Kroc Institute field site in Africa, Asia, Jerusalem, Latin America or the United States.

Master’s students also may apply for professional development funding from the Kroc Institute to support travel and/or other expenses related to participation in a conference or other academic or professional event.

Preparing Global Leaders Summit (PGLS 2015)

PGLF operates programs currently in Russia, Macedonia, Croatia, and Jordan and its program alumni hail from over a hundred countries. The Preparing Global Leaders Summit (PGLS) is a premiere international educational program for the best young professionals in the world. The program seeks to prepare aspiring global scholar-leaders with the tools that are necessary for effective leadership in an increasingly complex world. Students will join a distinguished faculty that includes PGLF founder Dr. Sam Potolicchio (Georgetown University, New York University, RANEPA), former Rhodes Scholar and current Columbia University Professor Dr. Abdul El-Sayed, and Dr. Branden Thornhill-Miller (Oxford, Sorbonne).
