Description

The one-year program is a competitive fellowship enabling emerging social entrepreneurs to plan and implement their own ventures. Fellows receive start-up training, engage with current experts, and create change by implementing their social start-ups in their your own communities.The program takes place in two phases, the ten-week Incubation Phase on campus in Hamburg and the ten-month Implementation Phase in the Fellows’ home countries. During the Incubation Phase they will develop their individual business plans and next to that, solve a real life group Challenge posed by a company or organization to learn hands-on what it takes to be an entrepreneur and how to successfully take action. During the Implementation Phase each Fellow starts his/her own mission-driven venture.

H&M Germany challenges you to create an innovative packaging system for one of its product lines! The goal is to minimize waste and energy, optimize the handling process and create maximum recycling and upcycling opportunities along the way. The solution should aim to be globally scalable and economically viable. The impact of the developed solution will be evaluated during a one-week testing phase, delivering goods from the central German warehouse to H&M stores in Hamburg.

The DO School  is seeking highly motivated and talented emerging social entrepreneurs and intrapreneurs age 21 to 31. Applicants should be able to demonstrate a track record of being passionate about addressing social issues and creating and spreading innovative social change. We welcome applications from people with all educational and socioeconomic backgrounds. Successful applicants are determined and willing to use our program to start new, or grow existing ventures, or implement a new initiative within a larger organization. The DO School program is ideal for outstanding mission-driven people who are looking for the tools, skills, and mentoring to launch a social start-up

Tuition Fee & Fellowship

The DO School fellowship is a highly subsidized program, which means participants pay only a small portion of the actual costs as their tuition fee. For One-Year Programs in Hamburg the tuition fee is 1,000 € excluding travel and living expenses throughout the Incubation Phase in Hamburg. This only applies to Fellows who can afford to pay the full tuition and their own costs, for everyone else there is financial aid available for both the tuition fee and the personal costs during the Incubation Phase of the One-Year Program. Fellow selection is need-blind. This means we select Fellows regardless of their financial circumstances and make sure that everyone who is selected can also participate in the program. If you need financial aid there is a separate form in the application process that you can fill out. If you are accepted you will then automatically receive an individualized partial or full financial aid offer. The offer will be based on your personal needs, however, we expect all candidates to demonstrate entrepreneurial spirit and actively contribute to part of their own costs through their own fundraising activities.

Do you enjoy writing? Are you interested in post-communist transition? What are your thoughts on a free trip to Prague?

Transitions (TOL) is inviting students from across the globe to choose a topic relating to the social, political, economic, and cultural transition that has taken place in the last 25 years across the formerly communist countries of Europe and Eurasia.

You are free to choose your topic, your angle, your hook, your hypothesis, your research question, your style; as long as your content addresses post-communist transition in Central Europe, Eastern Europe, the Balkans, the Caucasus, or Central Asia, we will process your submission.

A panel of judges, led by Transitions’ editor in chief will choose the top three undergraduate and top three graduate entries. All of the winning entries will be rolled out in our online magazine, which has an international audience of more than 25,000 monthly readers.

The first place undergraduate and first place graduate writers will win a FREE trip to Prague to attend our fall conference, 25 Years After: The Challenges of Building the Post-Communist Media and Communication Industries, from 20-22 November 2014.*

Description

Global Fund for Women invests in women’s groups that advance the human rights of women and girls. They value local expertise and believe that women themselves know best how to determine their needs and propose solutions for lasting change and continue to defend and expand hard-won gains in women’s rights by focusing on three critical areas:

Zero Violence
They fund and advocate for women’s and girls’ participation, empowerment, and peace building while challenging laws, policies, cultures and behavior that perpetuates discrimination, violence and abuse.

Economic & Political Empowerment
They support advocacy for economic and legal reform and women’s equal participation in local and national elections and economies, support democracy movements and efforts to secure land, labor and property rights.

Sexual & Reproductive Health & Rights

A support is provided to campaigns, service delivery, advocacy and education to influence attitudes and achieve policy change that secures women’s and girls’ full access to sexual and reproductive health and rights.

Eligibility

Please note that your group must meet all the following criteria to be eligible for a grant:

  • It is based in a country outside the United States, priority is given to certain countries which you can find HERE;
  • Its primary focus is advancing women’s equality and human rights, with these goals clearly reflected in its activities;
  • It is a group of women working together. They do not accept requests from individuals;
  • It is governed, directed, and led by women. Women must fill all or most of the leadership roles.

Grant

The Global Fund for Women provides grants ranging from $5,000 to $30,000 per year for operating and project expenses. First-time grant awards generally range from $5,000 to $13,000 per year.

The ITU Telecom World Young Innovators Competition

Description

The ITU Telecom World Young Innovators Competition in partnership with the World Health Organization (WHO) is looking for innovative ideas on how information and communication technologies (ICTs) can help smart cities to slow down or mitigate the effects of climate change. This might include novel technologies or combinations of existing technologies, services, and systems which would shape a smart city. It may focus on monitoring of or reporting on climate change, mitigating or adapting the impact of climate change on society, or on changes in technology and society that lead to a greener community.

Eligibility

This competition is open to all young people who are 18-30 years old and are coming from all 193  ITU’s member states.

Competition

This is a co-creation challenge, they are looking for any useful thoughts or information which might help us, as a community to develop the concept for a new startup. They will be running the challenge in parallel with an effort to crowdsource a youth contribution to the WHO Conference on Health and Climate Conference

Award

The best initial ideas will be presented at the WHO Conference on Health and Climate Change on August 27 – 29.  At the end of the competition, two winners will join ITU Telecom World 2014 in Doha, Qatar, from December 7-10 to pitch their ideas in front of industry leaders and national governments, participate in workshops, benefit from a year of ongoing mentorship, and win  up to $5 000 in seed funding.

Call for papers for the International Symposium “Democracy, Participation, Activism”

Description

Sociology Student’s Club “Diskrepancija” announced the opening of the “Call for Papers” for the upcoming International Symposium “Democracy, Participation, Activism” which will be held from 12th – 14th of November, 2014 at the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, Zagreb. With the purpose of reflecting on responsibilities of the political subject, possible alternatives, and, above all, the role of activism, “Diskrepancija” invites sociology students and from other disciplines to submit their proposals.

The suggested topics may include (but are not limited to): liberalism and democracy, democracy as the end of history,  crisis of democracy, tyranny of the majority, terrorism, civic activism, cyber-activism, spreading of knowledge as a form of activism, direct democracy, types of democracy, crisis of participation, responsible decision making, democracy and postmodernism. Aside from a presentations section, they will organize public fora and roundtable discussions in cooperation with professors and civil society associations.

The call for papers is open to students in the fields of sociology, philosophy, political science, history, anthropology, journalism, etc.

Participation at the symposium is free of charge. Accommodation for the presenters will be financially covered by the organizers.

Description

The theme of the International Essay Contest is “Genocide – the dark mark of humanity”.

Essay may be written in the context of legal, political, historical, cultural, economic or any other issue connected to genocide.

We live in times of kaleidoscopic historical change when international law and settled after World War II world order once again find themselves threatened and become as the object of flagrant violations. The issue of responsibility of particular subjects of international relations and specific individuals for outright criminal actions that harm the civilized humanity is actual and raised once again.

In this regard, Ukraine based NGO “Society Initiatives Institute” seeks to eliminate embarrassing information void in the social, cultural and spiritual spheres, formed around the figure of the scientist, lawyer, expert on international law Raphael Lemkin, scholar who created and implemented in the broadest scientific and legal usage, the term “genocide.” A true cosmopolitan, Polish lawyer, with Jewish descent, born in territory of modern Belarus, who studied in Ukraine and Germany, before working in the universities in USA, he was writing about the genocide of Armenians, Assyrians (also known as Syriacs) and Jewish People.

It was his efforts which led the term to be entrenched in Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide adopted by Resolution 260 (III) A of the United Nations General Assembly on 9 December 1948. Also back in 1953, in his speech to the New York audience “The Soviet genocide in Ukraine”, Raphael Lemkin, was the first to recognize and speak about the crimes of the Stalinist Communist regime against the Ukrainian people, analyzing it in the context of international law.

In order to properly commemorate the name of Raphael Lemkin and to spread and continue the theoretical researches on the issues of genocides, Society Initiatives Institute is organizing this International Essay Contest.

The contest is open to all interested around the globe.

Awards

The winners will be selected by the Committee established by Society Initiatives Institute consisting of board members and scholars not more than two weeks after the deadline of essays submission.

The 1st, 2nd and 3rd place winners chosen by the Committee will be awarded with 300, 200 and 100 euro respectively.

The best essays will be published on web-pages of organization and its partners.

Application

Each contestant can submit only one essay developed in English, Ukrainian, Russian or Polish. It must reflect the contestant’s own writing and original thinking. The Committee will disqualify any essay where plagiarism is suspected.

An essay should be maximum 1000 words long in the following format: essay title / author’s name and contacts / school/university/affiliation / essay (introduction, main arguments, conclusions).

The EcoCup Environmental Film Festival 2014

The 6th ECOCUP Green Documentary Film Festival will take place in Moscow in February 2015.ECOCUP Green Documentary Film Festival’s aim is to present and promote movies and videos that deals with issues and problems related to the environment.The EcoCup Environmental Film Festival in Russia features the best domestic and foreign environmental films for the Russian audience. Documentary films, long and short features and animations are accepted.

All films selected by the organizers will be shown as part of the EcoCup festival program, which will take place in Moscow and other cities in Russia in 2015.

  • Registration is free of charge.
  • The shipping costs of all material entered are to be covered by the entrants.
  • Festival does not pay the screening fee.
  1. All films in foreign languages will be subtitled to Russian language or simultaneously translated.

One Month Visits to Austria!

Description

The main purpose of the scholarship is to enable scientific staff of universities to do research at Austrian universities in the context of master or doctoral studies (an age limit of 45 years applies). targeted countries: Applicants from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Kosovo, FYR of Macedonia, Montenegro, and Serbia.

The role of WUS Austria is to promote the program and provide information to interested persons; further information can also be obtained at the Institute of International Law and International Relations/University of Graz, which is in charge of selecting the candidates. Implementation of the program is carried out by the Austrian Exchange Service (OeAD-GmbH), which takes care of accommodation arrangements and payment of the grant. The grant letter sent by the OeAD-GmbH can be used for obtaining a visa if applicable.

This Austrian programme offers professors and assistants of public universities from Bosnia and Herzegovina, Serbia, Montenegro, Kosovo and Macedonia the possibility to spend one month at an Austrian university for a research visit provided an Austrian university institution is ready to ensure the supervision.

  • Confirmation of employment of Your university.
  • Copies of diplomas or leaving certificates.

  • Two letters of recommendation by professors of the respective field of research. These letters should provide an evaluation of the applicant’s project as well as his/her academic or artistic competence and personal qualification to undertake the project in Austria.
