IDEA Internship Program

 

Your interest in undertaking an internship with the IDEA office is acknowledged with great pleasure. We hope the information below will further increase your interest and encourage you to apply for our internship program.

  

 

Objective of the Programme

The internship will be beneficial to the interns, as the program will familiarize them with the overall IDEA working system and with its multidimensional activities in the country and abroad. The program will further provide interns with practical knowledge and skills in the field of environment, sustainable development, public relations etc.

Additionally, the IDEA office will also benefit from the wide variety of academic knowledge, professional experiences and personal creativities of interns. Candidates with new, refreshing ideas are welcome.

Required Qualifications

Candidates should:

  • have (or be in the process of taking) a university degree in one of the required fields (environmental studies; journalism; linguistics; public relations; international relations)
  • reflect their interest in environment and sustainable development in the curriculum vitae and motivation letter
  • have some work experience (internship, volunteering is accepted)
  • have a good command of Azerbaijani and English (Russian is an asset)

Duration

The duration of the internship program is 3 months: From June 15, 2014 to September 15, 2014. In exceptional cases, it may be extended for another two months. Working hours for interns in the office are either 9:30-14:00 or 14:00-18:30. Deadline for application submission is June 5, 2014.

Responsibilities

Responsibilities for the interns working with environment, sustainable developmentissues:

  • preparing, reviewing, and updating environmental investigation and recommendation reports under the instructions of  the Supervisor;
  • monitoring progress of environmental projects of the Union;
  • providing administrative support for projects by collecting data, providing project documentation, and performing other general administrative duties;
  • producing detailed proposals for events (e.g. timelines, venues, suppliers, staffing and etc.);
  • liaising with staff, especially with PR Manager for events promotion;

Responsibilities for the interns working with PR:

  • planning and implementing PR strategies under instructions of the PR or Project Supervisor;
  • liaising with and answering enquiries from media, individuals and other organizations via telephone or email;
  • researching, writing articles, preparing information (for media sources) and media mentions under the instruction of PR Supervisor;
  • writing and editing monthly reports, newsletters;
  • giving valuable inputs to the organization of events including exhibitions, open days and etc.;
  • updating information on the union’s website if needed;

Responsibilities for the interns working with translations:

  • translating materials such as press releases, newsletters, reports and etc.;
  • checking original texts to ensure that translations retain the content, meaning, and feeling of the original material;
  • checking translations of technical terms and terminology to ensure that they are accurate and remain consistent throughout translation revisions;
  • proofreading, editing, and revising translated materials under the instruction;
  • reading written materials such as scientific works, or news reports, and rewriting material into specified languages (mostly into English and Russian);
  • referring to specific materials such as dictionaries, lexicons, encyclopedias, and computerized terminology banks as needed to ensure translation accuracy;
  • providing an efficient interpreting service for support workers;

Facilities in the office

Interns will be provided with a supervisor who is approachable at any time. The interns will be provided with all needed facilities including computer, seat and etc. during working hours and will attend biweekly staff meetings.

NOTE: The internship in the IDEA office is unpaid.

Summer Internship Opportunity in Europe!!

The Carbon Market Forum (CMF) at the Centre for European Policy Studies (CEPS) in Brussels is seeking an intern to work for 6 months starting in June 2014, possibly extendible beyond this period.

Responsibilities
•    Carry out research and produce material on projects, with initial focus on carbon leakage
•    Research and draft background materials on climate change, market approaches related to climate change and climate finance
•    Assist with the preparation and publication of CEPS Commentaries and other CEPS publications related to the above subjects
•    Provide support to the Head of the Carbon Market Forum
•    Provide general administrative support to the Carbon Market Forum, including helping to organize CMF meetings.
•    Maintain liaison with stakeholders such as business associations, environmental NGOs, etc.

Requirements
•    A degree in international relations, political science, environmental economics, European studies, or similar
•    English language skills at native-speaker level; French or another language is an asset
•    Experience with an international relations environment, multi-stakeholder process
•    Well organized and able to pay attention to detail, ability to work in a demanding environment, under pressure, take initiative and be a problem-solver
•    Ability to internalize substantial amount of material and think laterally
•    Interest in climate change and market approaches to climate change, international relations
•    Hard working and interested to potentially continue in this field
•    Student status with an authorization to work in Belgium.

Start date: interviews will take place in the third week of January. Work will start as soon as possible after that.
Duration: Six months, extendible for twelve months for the right candidate. Compensation: Depending on the level, experience and background of the candidate. Workplace: Brussels.

2014 IPU Paid Internship in Switzerland

Deadline: 16 May 2014
Open to: undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students
Remuneration: a stipend amount to SFr. 1,000 per month.

Description

Inter-Parliamentary Union, a global political organization offering internships for undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate students. Applicants should pursuing a course of study or work in fields related to the IPU’s mandate and activities.  Interns will came aross how the IPU operates and enhance their educational experience by working under the supervision of a senior staff member. Internship will amount to SFr. 1,000 per month in Geneva. Last date to apply is 16th May 2014. Maximun length of the internship will be 6 months. The internship is expected to run for a period of 3 months. It should start no later than 1 June.

Field of Internship: Within the delegated authority interns’ tasks will include:

-Reviewing tagged records for accuracy and completeness;
-Tagging website content according to the current taxonomy model;
-Fine tuning the taxonomy tree to ensure delivery of targeted, relevant content;
-Other assigned tasks related to the content migration.

Eligibility

– Ability to adapt to an international, multicultural, multilingual environment.
– Good communication skills.
– Ability to work fairly independently or as part of a team.
– Initiative and flexibility.
– The cost of travel, insurance and accommodation, as well as living expenses, are the responsibility of interns or their sponsoring institutions.
– Interns are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and for obtaining the necessary passport and visa or other documents for entering Switzerland.
– Interns are responsible for arranging their own accommodation.
– IPU does not accept responsibility for costs arising from accidents and/or illness incurred during an internship.
– Interns are responsible for procuring and maintaining their own insurance coverage for illness and accidents while they are working at the IPU, and a copy of documentation attesting to such insurance coverage should be provided by each intern on their first day of internship.
– Any past work experience and knowledge of IT-related work would be an advantage.
– Close relatives of a serving IPU official are not eligible to apply.
– Working knowledge, both oral and written, of the IPU’s official languages (English and French).
– University degree or final year of undergraduate studies;
– Degrees in disciplines considered relevant to the IPU’s work, e.g. international law, economics, political science, and the social sciences.
