Open Enrollment Application- City of Los Angeles Youth Ambassador 2016-2017 Cohort

The City of Los Angeles Human Relations Commission (City HRC), a neutral city department that mandates inter-group relations and impacts policy, is honored and pleased to announce the 2016-2017 open enrollment period has begun for our very popular, City of Los Angeles Youth Ambassador Cohort program.

The Youth Ambassador Cohort (Y.A.) program is an exciting opportunity for Los Angeles high school student’s 9th-11th grade from all socio-economic backgrounds and sectors of Los Angeles, to build leadership skills and get involved in public policy and civic engagement. The program has (12) workshops that occur on one Saturday per month and requires a one-year commitment. It uses the City of Los Angeles’ government landscape, including City Hall, Council Chambers, City Departments and their resources in a live classroom setting and culminates with an Inaugural experiential five-day trip to Washington D.C., where YA Cohort members tour the White House, meet with White House cabinet members, members of the U.S. Congress and tour the national monuments.

The objective is to equip each Youth Ambassador with a diverse cross-cultural experience and a global perspective and expertise on education, civic-engagement, leadership and volunteerism.

The United Nations Climate Change secretariat is now accepting applications for the 2016 Momentum for Change Awards to showcase action and ambition as national governments work toward implementing the historic Paris Agreement.

Selected initiatives, called ‘Lighthouse Activities,’ shine a light on innovative, scalable and replicable examples of what people are doing to address climate change, in the hope of inspiring others to act. They will be recognized and celebrated during a series of special events in November at the UN Climate Change Conference in Marrakech, Morocco.

“Now that countries have agreed to an unprecedented global treaty to combat climate change, it is time to unleash action and investment towards a low-emission, resilient and sustainable future,” said Nick Nuttall, UNFCCC Spokesperson.

“The solutions awarded by Momentum for Change show that concrete, results-driven action on climate change is already underway around the world. They also serve as a beacon to inspire governments and other key actors to take similar action.”

Fully Funded Türkiye Scholarships for International Students

Deadline: 31 March 2016
Open to: international students (non-Turkish)
Scholarship: monthly stipend (600 TL for undergraduate, 850 TL for master and 1200 TL for PhD ); full tuition fee, Turkish language course, accommodation, round-trip air ticket and health insurance

Description

Türkiye Scholarships is an international scholarship program funded by Government of Turkey that aims to improve mutual understanding with other countries and to contribute to the global knowledge with people oriented approach. Applications for Türkiye Scholarships for undergraduate, master and PhD programmes  are now open.

Türkiye Scholarships include both scholarship and university placement at the same time. Applicants will be placed in a university and programme among their preferences specified in the online application form. Most programmes in Turkish universities are instructed in Turkish. However, some departments and universities offer programmes in English or French. The candidates who want to study in these languages need to have an internationally recognized certificate to prove their language proficiency. Also, most of these foreign language programmes may ask international admission test scores such as GRE, GMAT etc. Candidates can check the language of instruction while selecting the programmes.

Eligibility

To be eligible for Undergraduate programs applicants must:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Turkey (anyone holding or ever held Turkish citizenship before cannot apply),
  • not be a registered student in Turkish universities at the level of study they are applying,
  • be have graduated or are likely to graduate from a secondary education institution,
  • be under the age of 21 (no earlier than 01.01.1995),
  • have at least specified (% 90 for medical sciences, % 70 for other undergraduate programs) cumulative grade point average, diploma grade, national exam or international exam score,
  • be in good health.

To be eligible for Postgraduate programs applicants must:

  • be a citizen of a country other than Turkey (anyone holding or ever held Turkish citizenship before cannot apply)
  • not be a registered student in Turkish universities at the level of study they are applying.
  • be a bachelor’s or master’s degree holder by 30th of July 2015 at the latest
  • be under the age of 30 for master’s programmes (no earlier than 01.01.1986)
  • be under the age of 35 for doctorate programmes (no earlier than 01.01.1981)
  • have at least 75 % cumulative grade point average or diploma grade over their maximum graduation grade or have at least 75 % success in any accepted national or international graduate admissions test.
  • be in good health.

Scholarship

The scholarship covers:
  • Monthly stipend (600 TL for undergraduate, 850 TL for master and 1200 TL for PhD )
  • Full tuition fee;
  • Free 1-year Turkish language course;
  • Free accommodation;
  • Round-trip air ticket;
  • Health insurance.

Application

Candidates can apply only one scholarship programme in accordance with their educational background and academic goals and they must apply online after registering HERE.

Scholarships are awarded in any subject available at Latvian HEI. The Evaluation Committee of VIAA takes the decision on granting of Latvian scholarships. The organizing HEI informs all scholarship candidates about the final granting decision in June. Scholarships are offered for the duration of the summer school.

The amount of the scholarship being granted by the VIAA for the summer school in Latvia is EUR 711 per person. The participants of the summer school will have to cover the travel expenses to/from Latvia by themselves.

The GCM Global Youth Summit 2016 are now open!

Description

The  GCM Global Youth Summit 2016 will be bringing 60 Changemakers aged 18 to 23 for a life-changing week of training sessions, networking and workshops. We will invite the strongest candidates to participate at the Summit, assessing their track record of social entrepreneurship, community activism and volunteerism, whilst ensuring gepgraphical and gender representation.

The Global Youth Summit will take place 24-30 July in Switzerland, and we are accepting applications!

Eligibility

We are looking for the most inspiring young social entrepreneurs, community activists and volunteers from across the globe. Participants must be between 18 and 23 years of age on the dates of the summit.

Costs

You will need to pay for your application fee (please make sure to copy the Unique Transaction ID number provided by PayPal and paste it on the online application form), fill in an online application form and make a 2 minute application video (you can read the video instructions here). If you are selected, your flight (from your country’s main airport), board and lodging costs will be covered for the duration of the summit.

Additional personal expenses, as well as visas to enter Switzerland (for those who require one) will not be covered.

Long Term European Voluntary Service Programme in Georgia

Call for the volunteer in hosting EVS project

This is a fantastic opportunity for youth from Erasmus+ Programme countries to contribute to the social change and to carry out a period of full time international voluntary service in Gori, Georgia. EVS period: 2016 September – 2017 June

It is expected to host volunteer, who:
• Is 18-30 years old;
• Excellent written English skills. Because English language will be one of the tools of activity;
• Has the attitudes and values of human rights;
• Has motivation to work with civic engagement campaign.
• Is interested to work in civil society organizations in developing social youth activities;
• Has analytical and organizational skills;
• Motivation to communicate clearly and effectively with people from diverse cultures and backgrounds;

The activities in which volunteer could be involved

The main roles of the volunteer will be directly linked to running activities, raising awareness and mobilising the young people concerning specific topics (mobility, european and active citizenship, interculturality, etc.), and international projects (in particular youth exchanges). The first month of service will be dedicated to discovery, observation of how the organization functions and involvement in the staff’s actions. Then, step by step, the volunteer will be encouraged to offer her/his ideas which will be carefully considered by the staff. If they effectively match with the Kartlosi’s goals and are approved by the team, they will be confirmed. The volunteer will be able to manage a personal project and will be supported in creating it. The volunteer will be supported by the Kartlosi staff in each of her/his tasks. The volunteer will occasionally be able to get involved in other activities. During Kartlosi events, the volunteer can participate with the rest of the staff in their activities. If some specific topics interest the volunteer, she/he can become more involved.

About the placement

Gori is a city in eastern Georgia, which serves as the regional capital of Shida Kartli region and the centre of the homonymous administrative district. The city and the region have been affected by the Tskhinval/i conflict and 2008 August war. Gori population is around 50 000 inhabitants. The distance from the capital to Gori is approximately 80 km. 50 minutes to drive by car, minibus or train.

The Police & Youth Engagement Project aims to improve relations between youth and law enforcement. Youth selected to participate will attend a two-day workshop in DC, all expenses paid, in order to give feedback to law enforcement leaders. Feedback will inform the curriculum of a national law enforcement training institute.

The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) 2016

Description

The Korean Government Scholarship Program (KGSP) is designed for international students who wants to pursue higher education in Korean Universities.

Available Universities: 66 universities or institutions designated by NIIED:

Detailed information about the fields and majors offered by the listed eligible universities can be found in the University Information section on the GKS website.  Applicants must choose their desired fields of study from the listed programs in the University Information section provided by participating universities.

Night schools, Seasonal schools, and schools through Internet are not allowed.

Scholarship

  • Airfare: A round-trip economy class ticket
  • Monthly Allowance: 900,000 won(KRW) per month
  • Research Allowance: 210,000 won for students in human and social sciences; 240,000 won for students in natural and mechanic sciences per semester
  • Relocation (Settlement) Allowance: 200,000 won upon arrival
  • Language Training Fee : The full costs up to 1 year
  • Tuition: All admission fees are waived by the host institution. The full tuition is paid by NIIED.
  • Dissertation Printing Costs: 500,000 ~ 800,000 won for the costs related to a printing dissertation
  • Medical Insurance: 20,000 won per month(limited insurance coverage) will be provided to the university for students.
  • Special fund for students proficient in Korean language (TOPIK level 5 or 6): 100,000 won per month(Commencing from the main program)

Eligibility

  • Both applicant and his/her parents must be citizens of the foreign country.
  • Applicants cannot have Korean citizenship.
  • Applicants should be in good health, both mentally and physically, to stay in Korea for a long period of time.
  • Should be under 40 years of age as of 1 September 2016.
  • Hold a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree as of August 31st, 2016.
  • Applicants who are enrolling or have already enrolled in the same academic program in Korea as the one they are applying for will not be admitted.
  • For Master’s program (or Integrated Master’s & Doctoral program): students who hold a Bachelor’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Bachelor’s degree
  • For Doctoral program: students who hold a Master’s degree or a diploma that is equivalent to or higher than Master’s degree.
  • Applicants who are expecting the adequate diploma should present their diploma by August 31st, 2016 before entry.
  • Should have a grade point average (G.P.A.) at least 2.64 on a 4.0 scale, 2.80 on a 4. 3 scale, 2.91 on a 4.5 scale or grades/marks/score of 80% or higher from the previous attended institution.
  • If the grade is difficult to convert to percentage, official explanatory documents from the attended university are required.

Application

Applicants can apply for the scholarships through the Korean Embassy in their home country or a participating Korean University. See the websites of Korean Embassy (Consulate) in your own country or the  universities in Korea in which you want to study in.

The selection process for applicants will proceed in three steps:

  1. Firstly, applicants must be selected by the institution he or she is applying through (a Korean embassy, or a designated university).
  2. Secondly, applicants who passed the first round must be selected by the NIIED Selection Committee.
  3. Finally, applicants who passed the second round must gain admission from a university.

The application deadline is 8 April 2016.
