Applications for the Peace Revolution Fellowship in Thailand – Global Peace On The Move XIII – February 11-24 2015 are open now!The fellowship offers a 14 days intensive training program providing participants with deeper insight in the relationship between inner peace and sustainable world peace and enhancing their ability to create peace within their family, professional and social environment.

In addition to our intense meditation practice, participants will gain knowledge of various theoretical approaches that include:

  • Conflict resolution and the role of basic human self-discipline
  • The role of our habits in our daily life and how to improve them; the 5 Rooms  of Life approach
  • The factors that determine our perception to think, act and speak; relation between body and mind
  • Leadership: Eight pillars for a stable peaceful society
  • Thai-Buddhist Studies

 

Presently, the fellowship takes place at Mooktawan Sanctuary in an island at the southern part of Thailand. Participants will enjoy meditating in a serene and peaceful near-forest environment. Eligibility

  • Candidates should be 18-30 years old at the time of submitting the application in order to receive the airfare support.
  • Candidates must have completed 42 days of the online self-development program. Note that in order to submit the application form, candidates do not need to have completed the online self-development program.
  • The completed self-development program needs to be current. You may refer to the self-development validity according to the date specified by the fellowship you are applying to. If it is more than 1 year since the self-development program completion, you will have to do it again. If it is more than 6 months but less than 1 year, you will have to submit 15 days more of Inner Peace Time journal.
  • Candidates must have completed at least 1 OFFLINE (with 5 or more participants) and 1 ONLINE (with 10 or more participants) Special Ops.
  • Candidates must have submitted a PIPO Proposal.
  • Candidates have good proficiency in written and spoken English language.
  • Candidates should be optimistic, be open-minded, show leadership potential, and have a genuine interest in peace.

Fellowship

The Thailand fellowship includes:

  • partial sponsoring of airfare*
  • free accommodation
  • free catering
  • free local transportation
  • free meditation retreat fee

*Everyone is welcome to join the fellowship. But to be eligible for the partial sponsoring of airfare, candidates must be between 18-30 years old.

Sushi Logo Design Contest 2014

Description

Sushi Express is currently hosting a logo design contest and inviting designers around the world to make a logo using the Chinese characters “爭鮮”. The “爭鮮”, part of the name for “Zensen Sushi Express”, is a play on words, meaning “vying for freshness”, which sounds like the phrase “truly fresh,” underscoring the company’s insistence on providing fresh, healthy, safe, and delicious food . The Zensen Sushi Express Group’s brand name reflects our policy of providing “quality food at affordable prices”.

The contest will be held in two phases. The initial selection will be held between 20 and 30 October 2014. In this first phase, entries will be selected to compete in the second phase of the contest, the finals. The finals will be held between 7 and 14 November 2014. From the shortlist, the five best entries will be selected. Three individuals who took part in the online voting to predict the entries most likely to win will also be awarded prizes.

Eligibility

The call is open to individuals of any nationality 15-years old and up. Groups can take part in the competition.

Awards

The prize fund includes more than US$24,000, from which $20,000 are reserved for the winning design. The organizer will be responsible any necessary expenses, such as taxes, and money transfer fees.

Application

The deadline for submissions is 19 October 2014.

After completing their logo design, contestants are to fill in registration forms and explain design concepts in writing to help judges better understand concepts behind entry designs. In the event that the organizer is unable to contact a contestant because the contestant did not provide sufficient contact information, the entry will be disqualified. Contestants are to submit registration form, copyright transfer and personal information consent form. Click here to access the online application system.

Call for the May 18 Academy II 2014

Period of Application Submission: July 3 – July 16, 2014

The May 18 Academy is an education/training program for domestic/international civil society activists working for human rights, democracy and peace. The May 18 Academy provides special lectures based on the May spirit and a valuable opportunity to share experiences among activists in solidarity. The Academy is comprised of three parts, two for Korean participants (Academy 1 and 3) and one (Academy 2) for international participants. This call is for international participants for Academy 2 (previously known as the Gwangju Asian Human Rights Folk School till 2011).

 

The May 18 Academy 2 began in 2004. The aim of the May 18 Academy is to introduce participants to Korean history and a variety of democratic movements in Korea including the May 18 Democratization Movement of 1980, through both theoretical and practical experiences. Participants in the Academy engage with Korean modern history of human rights and democracy through a 2 week program of guided fieldtrips to places of significance in Korean modern history, visits with Korean organizations, as well as expert lectures and workshops.

 

The May 18 Academy 2 strives to contribute to the development of democracy and human rights throughout Asia by hosting 15 invitees from all over the world-but more focusing on Asia-who have been working for human rights and peace organizations in their respective countries. The emphasis is on organizational partnership, so applicants endorsed by their organization will be given priority in the participant selection procedure. Applicants’ organizations should support their staff’s successful completion of the course from the May 18 Academy by providing expenses for issuing of the travel visa and internal travel expenses in their home country aside from the round trip airfare, Korean domestic expenses and accommodation which are provided by the Foundation for him/her.

 

The May 18 Academy 2 will be held for 2 weeks: from August 20 to September 3, 2014

The May 18 Academy 2 will select 15 participants as below:

ㆍJunior Staff: 6 people (with 2-5 years of experience)

ㆍMiddle Management/Advisory: 6 people (with 5-15 years of experience)

ㆍSenior/Director:3 people (with more than 15 years of experience)

 

 Junior staff and Middle Management/Advisory will be put into groups at the beginning of the program. Each group will be assigned a topic and will deliver a presentation at the end for the educational session. They also are given the chance to present the activities of their organizations.

 

 The lectures are divided and specially targeted for middle management/advisory and junior staff. The foundation offers them slightly separated courses which are customized according to the career-level.

 

 Meanwhile, Senior/Director participants will each deliver a lecture to the participants about human rights and democracy drawn from their experiences and knowledge as Seniors/Directors in the field.

 

※ Completing the May 18 Academy, the alumni will have an opportunity to apply for a scholarship in the Master of Arts in Inter-Asia NGO Studies(MAINS) program offered by the graduate school of Sungkonghoe University in Seoul. The Foundation has been supporting scholarships being awarded for 3 Academy alumni every year.

 

– Applicants are advised to read the guidelines carefully. The Foundation will only consider applicants who successfully comply with the guidelines and rules.

–  Incomplete applications will not be considered (See the application form for more details).

– Applicants should ensure that they have no potential visa problems. If an applicant is denied entry to Korea because of his/her personal matters which are not known to the Foundation, the Foundation does not take any responsibilities for the problems he/she face.

– If an applicant decides not to participate in the May 18 Academy after being selected as a participant, the Foundation will not accept any applications from his/her organization for 3 years.

 

 The May 18 Memorial Foundation will cover the following expenses during the program:

ㆍRound trip airfare

ㆍTransportation expenses in Korea

ㆍAccommodation and food

 

The following expenses will NOT be covered:

ㆍInternal transportation, including domestic flights in your home country (for example, to/from the airport or to the embassy)

ㆍVisa fee and any other special taxes.

 

 The 15 successful participants are requested to pay the registration fee (50 USD).

 

About the May 18 Memorial Foundation

The May 18 Memorial Foundation is a non-profit organization established in 1994 to commemorate the 1980 Gwangju Uprising by continuing the Uprising’s spirit of struggle and solidarity and working towards peace and human rights throughout the world. The Foundation carries out numerous projects in various fields, including organizing memorial events, establishing scholarships, fostering research, publishing materials, dispensing funds, building international solidarity, and awarding the Gwangju Prize for Human Rights.

  • CIC/Anna Chennault Scholarship: $5,000 available to graduating high school seniors and college students who are passionate about journalism. This grant pays for educational costs and travel to the 2014 AAJA National Conference in Washington, D.C. The application deadline is May 9, 2014.
  • Mary Quon Moy Ing Memorial Scholarship: Up to $2,000 available to current college students or graduating high school seniors interested in pursuing journalism as a career. The application deadline is May 9, 2014.
  • Broadcast News Internship Grants: Two grants are offered to support students and recent graduates who have secured a broadcast news internship for the summer of 2014. The application deadline is April 18, 2014.
  • Print and Online News Internship Grant: $1,000 available to support students and recent graduates who have secured a print or online news internship for the summer of 2014. The application deadline is April 18, 2014.

The ANU Asia Pacific Week 2014, Australia

Asia Pacific Week 2014 will be the fourth conference of its kind hosted by The Australian National University and will explore the theme of ‘GlobaliseAsian’.

Asia’s remarkable rise and economic development means that it is set to make its mark on the world. But is the world ready for a world shaped by Asia? Today, there is a common assumption in the West that as countries modernise, they become more Westernised. This is an illusion and suggests that modernity is simply a product of ideas, systems and technology originating in the West. Instead of an era of globalisation, we are entering a time of ‘GlobaliseAsian’. What this world may look like and how the West can benefit from the East is the focus of Asia Pacific Week 2014.

Bringing together 100 of the best students from across the globe, Asia Pacific week examines significant and controversial issues facing our region, its place in the world and how it is shaping the globe. Th week combines the strength of The Australian National University’s unrivalled expertise in the study of Asia and the Pacific and the resources available in the nation’s capital. The program is sure to engage and intellectually stimulate students and challenge the way they perceive Asia and the Pacific.

The conference also promises to introduce delegates to a network of friends and contacts from across the globe, while encouraging the exchange of ideas with some of the world’s leading Asia Pacific specialists including academics, policymakers and diplomats. Asia Pacific Week (APW) 2014 brings together a diverse group of delegates to the Australian National University (ANU). Applicants may receive a partial travel scholarship from APW 2014 to cover airfares to Australia. Scholarship money is dependent on where the applicant is travelling from and the quality of their application. The maximum amount awarded per region is outlined below.

KAKEHASHI Project-The Bridge for Tomorrow

                          Japanese American Young Adults Invitation Program

The “KAKEHASHI Project-The Bridge for Tomorrow” is a youth exchange project, promoted by the Ministry Foreign Affairs in Japan, to heighten potential interest in Japan and increase the number of overseas visitors to the country, as well as enhance international understanding of the “Japan brand,” and the nation’s strengths and attractiveness, such as Japanese-style values and “Cool Japan.” The KAKEHASHI Project- Japanese American Young Adults Invitation Programprovides a fully funded short-term study tour to Japan for undergraduate and graduate students (ages 18-25 years old at the time of application) in the United States.

The goals of Japanese American Young Adults Invitation Program are (1) to continue building cooperation between Japanese Americans and Japan, (2) to promote Japanese Americans a better understanding of Japan in a variety of fields including politics, economy and culture, and (3) to encourage Kakehashi alumni to be effective advocates in enhancing U.S.-Japan relations.

Eiffel Scholarships for Master’s and PhD in France 2014

Started in 1999 the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs is committed to provide Eiffel Scholarships for international students who wish to pursue study in France. The scholarships are offered to international student who are going to enroll in Master’s and PhD courses in the country. Currently, the scholarships are available for the Calendar Session of 2014/2015.

Scholarship Provider

The scholarships can be taken in France

Country of Applicants

International students are invited to apply for the scholarships. The priority will be given to students who have already taken a study in France

Level/Degree

The Eiffel Scholarships are available for pursuing study in Master’s and PhD degrees

Eligibility

The scholarships will be awarded for the applicants who meet the criteria required by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as follow:

  • International students
  • The applicants must be no older than 30 at the time applying for the scholarships
  • The commitee will only consider the applications sent by French Institution
  • The applicants must be willing to join a training course required during the duration of the scholarships
  • The scholarships are not eligible for students who have got scholarships from any other provider
  • The applicants should be able to perform the language with the required language level by the training course

Scholarship Value

The successful candidates will be awarded monthly allowance for about €1,181 for Master’s degree and €1,400 for PhD degree. The scholarships will not cover tuition fees

The Asia Pacific Leadership Program (APLP)is the center of excellence for leadership education in Asia Pacific and a signature program of the East-West Center. The program links advanced and interdisciplinary analysis of emergent regional issues with experiential leadership learning.

APLP graduates leave the East-West Center with an expanded regional perspective. They are knowledgeable about the societies and issues of the Asia Pacific region and empowered to exercise leadership and promote cooperation in a variety of cultural, geographical and institutional environments.
