Travel Film Scholarship 2015

Aspiring documentary makers can apply for a mentored trip to capture the culture and the communities of Colombia’s Pacific Coast.

World Nomads is accepting applications for a travel documentary scholarship. The trip will take place Nov. 21 to Dec. 3.

The winner will spend seven days filming in Colombia under the mentorship of filmmaker and director Brian Rapsey, followed by three days in a post-production workshop in Bogotá.

Applicants must be proficient in English.

The three winning organisations will receive:

“All You Need is Love!” Short Film Competition

LET’S CEE Film Festival is organised by the Association LET’S CEE Film Festival based in Vienna, Austria. The LET’S CEE Film Festival features high-quality productions from Central and Eastern Europe (CEE), including the Caucasus region and Turkey. The fourth edition of the LET’S CEE Film Festival will take place in Vienna, Austria, from 1- 11 October, 2015. The LET’S CEE Short Film Competition is one of three official film competitions of the LET’S CEE Film Festival. The underlying theme of the Competition in 2015 is “All You Need Is Love!”.

The Competition will give ten young film directors from Central and Eastern Europe, as well as Austrian ones, the chance to present their work personally at the international LET’S CEE Film Festival, to compare their work directly to that of other excellent young filmmakers, and to exchange thoughts with their colleagues.

Eligibility

Films eligible for Competition are to be considered according to all criteria mentioned below:

  • The film is no longer than 30 minutes;
  • The film is produced in one of the following countries: Albania, Armenia, Austria, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Bulgaria, Croatia, Czech Republic, Estonia, Georgia, Hungary, Kazakhstan, Kosovo, Latvia, Lithuania, Macedonia, Moldavia, Montenegro, Poland, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Turkey and Ukraine;
  • The director’s country of citizenship is one of the countries mentioned above (the residents of the countries mentioned above can be presented Out of Competition);
  • The director is up to 35 years of age;
  • The film has been completed after January 1st, 2014;
  • The film has not been screened publicly in Austria;
  • All languages will be accepted; however (additional) English subtitles are in any case required;
  • The underlying topic of the film has to be related to love. As in the previous years of course, the submitted films will be free examine the theme ‘love’ in all forms and shapes, from all perspectives and angles. Great imagination and resourcefulness will be welcomed and free associations allowed. There are no restrictions regarding the content, except an unmistakably clear relation to the topic;
  • The applicant is allowed to submit more than one film (in separate entries).

Prizes

  1. The Main Prize is EUR 1.500 and the Urania statue, will be given by the International Jury;
  2. The Audience Award for the Best Film in the Short Film Competition will be decided by the audience;
  3. The jury may award honorable mentions to any of these categories.

The LET’S CEE Film Festival will provide the final participants of the competition with accommodation of its choice and make a financial contribution to the travelling costs.

The Ian Parry Youth Photojournalism Contest

Photographers under age 24 and those enrolled as full-time photography students can apply for the scholarship.

The Ian Parry Scholarship aims to help young documentary photographers undertake a chosen project and raise their international profile.

The first place winner will receive GBP3,500 (US$5,363); the runner-up will receive GBP500 (US$766). In addition, the Sunday Times Magazine will publish a selection of images from the competition, and Reportage by Getty Images will add the winner to its online Emerging Talent group.

World Press Photo automatically nominates the winner for its Joop Swart Masterclass in Amsterdam, and Canon provides a choice of equipment.

iMAPP – Projection Mapping Competition 2015

Outline of the competition

The iMapp Bucharest 2015 Projection mapping Competition is organized by creart – the Center for Creation, Art and Tradition of the Municipality of Bucharest, 360 Revolution as the Event Production Company and Maxin10sity as the Art Curator.

We are inviting international artists to create 4 minute 30 second long projection mapped animations to the theme of “The Elements” adapted to the façade of Palace of Parliament, Bucharest, Romania harmonizing with the architecture, and accompanied by music. The animations will be projected on 19th September 2015, in front of a jury and a live audience.

Theme

Concept: The Elements

The universe is born out of the four primordial elements: earth, wind, fire and water. Their generative impulse will transform the Palace of Parliament for the biggest video mapping show in the world. On the 19th of September 2015, a giant Big Bang of light will make the Palace be born again. You are welcome to be part of this genesis.

Each show can be a combination of any number of elements. It can be abstract or figurative, realistic or symbolic. A dynamic mixture or just one element, transforming the architectural features of the building. Or … you can bring your own fifth element into play!

Submission

First of all, the filled application form is needed.

Secondly, please provide visual/s (one piece at least).

With the submission the participants are confirming that the appropriate technique is available for producing the animation according to the requirements in the ‘Technical Information’ below.

(Those works which are sent after the deadline will be disqualified immediately.)

Technical compliance with the provided specifications is mandatory.

Selection of participants for the iMapp Bucharest 2015

Maxin10sity is in charge with this competition as an Art Curator, that decides about the six participants.

Eligibility and entry fee

Entry is free of charge. As a financial support for the production each of the six chosen participants will receive €16.000.

The six chosen artists can represent themselves by two persons whom the accommodation and transportation will be arranged.

Jury

On the 19th of September during the six participants will be juried by a professional panel of judges, who are all distinguished experts and prominent representatives of visual culture (from the field of arts, visual communications, media, film, etc.)

Restrictions

The competition is open to all natural and legal persons regardless of their profession, age, sex, citizenship or residence, people can enter the competition either individually or as a team.

Natural persons under the age of 18 must obtain the prior consent of their legal guardian to enter the competition.

When entering the competition as a team one person should be appointed as contact person who will solely be responsible for communication with the organizers.

One person can enter the competition in one team only.

The competition is open to both professionals and amateurs.

Entrants can only enter the competition with their own, original work. In that case, anybody enters the competition with work other than that of their own, the entry will be rejected and the person will be disqualified immediately. Should it be discovered only after the competition, the entrant will be stripped of his/her honors and the prize will have to be returned. Upon completing the registration form entrants declare that the work submitted by them is their own intellectual property, and warrant that it does not infringe the intellectual property rights of any third party.

The work submitted has to meet the requirements as set forth in the ‘Technical information’ section.

It is strictly forbidden to embed any real or fictitious advertisements in the work either overtly or in a covert way, i.e. it is forbidden to feature any product, brand, name, logo or recognizable image, or text, etc. (with the exception of the inscription on the façade of the building), and/or any mark or symbol suggesting whose work it is. Furthermore any compromising, harming message such as politics, delinquency or pornography is prohibited.

Entries that do not meet these requirements will be rejected automatically.

Copyright

All validated entries will remain the property of the participants. By submitting their work, participants give their consent for said work or parts of it to be used at no charge for advertising and promotional activities. Examples of promotional activities may include press releases, public relations activities for the competition, Internet-related promotion, or articles, all free of charge. The Organizer is not liable for any fees resulting from potential copyright infringements that result from the content of the animations submitted by the participants.

Moreover, the participants should also allow their work to be projected at the iMapp contest next year only.

The Lorenzo Natali Journalism Prize 2015

This year’s Lorenzo Natali Media Prize is launched under the motto ‘Today’s stories can change our tomorrow’ and coincides with the 2015 European Year for Development.  In December, the European Commission will once again award journalists for their outstanding reporting on development and poverty eradication.

Journalists committed to defending democracy and human rights can enter a competition.

The Lorenzo Natali Journalism Prize, sponsored by the European Commission, awards excellence in written, radio and broadcast journalism on the theme of development, democracy and human rights around the world. It was established in memory of former European Commissioner Lorenzo Natali.

A grand jury will reward one professional and one amateur journalist from each of the following regions: Africa, the Arab world and the Middle East, Asia and the Pacific, Latin America and the Caribbean and Europe.

Work must have been published or broadcast between Sept. 1, 2014 and Aug. 31, 2015 .

The selected contestants will receive trophies and cash prizes of EUR5,000 (US$5,614). The winners will compete for an additional EUR5,000 Grand Prize during an award ceremony in December 2015.

The deadline is Aug. 31.
