Descriptions

EPFL offers a limited number of fellowships at the Master’s level to students with outstanding academic records. Some of the fellowships are financed by EPFL directly and others through partnerships with foundations or companies.

Applications can be filled online from mid-November to the 15 January, or from the 16 January to the 15 April. Candidates who need a visa are strongly advised to apply by the January deadline.

Eligibility

Anyone applying to an EPFL Master’s Program is eligible. The selection of candidates and the granting of the fellowships is done based solely on the evaluation of the academic records of the candidates.

Fellowship

  • External applications
Fellowships for those candidates include:
  1. CHF 16,000 per academic year (split into monthly payments), meaning;
  2. CHF 32,000 for a 2-years Master’s(120 credits);
  3. CHF 24,000 for a 1 1/2 year Master’s (90 credits);
  4. Reservation of a room in students accomodation.

 

  • Internal applications (EPFL bachelor’s degree)

Fellowships for those candidates include:

  1. CHF 10,000 (split into 2 payments);
  2. A certificate of excellence for the results obtained during their Bachelor’s.

How to apply?

Candidates should deliver their printed application to their section by 30 April 2016.

The application should contain:

  • A recommendation letter from the section’s director;
  • A CV;
  • A motivation letter;
  • A transcript of all grades obtained at EPFL.

Description

Japanese Association of University Women (JAUW) is now calling for applications for its 2016 International Fellowships. This program is to offer core funding to financially help you come and stay in Japan when you have found that it is preferable or very important for you to stay in Japan to further pursue your ongoing study/research.

Eligibility

  • Woman of any nationality but other than Japanese, living outside Japan at the time of application;
  • Have received a Master’s degree or its equivalent, and presently work outside academia, or you are a student/researcher higher than MA /its equivalent level (typically of pre-doctoral or dissertation level);
  • Postdoctoral researchers may apply but they may be placed lower in priority;
  • Have to find a host university or institution in Japan by yourself, and have to submit, at the time of application, a Letter of Acceptance from that host or from your prospective supervisor thereof;

Scholarship

  • The amount of grant will range from YEN 700,000 to YEN 1,000,000 per grantee (approx. from 5,832 USD to 8,332 USD);
  • The duration of the stay in Japan and various other factors will be taken into consideration in deciding the total amount of grant;
  • This grant is for 5 to 6 months between September 2016 and March 2017, depending on applicant’s proposal.

In order to apply you have to send five copies of each of the completed application forms (i.e. both part 1 and part 2), and all other application documents in one single packet via airmail to (applications sent by e-mail will not be accepted):

JCamp 2016 Application Now Open

Dear Teachers, Advisors and Friends:

The Asian American Journalists Association (AAJA) is excited to open the application for JCamp, an all-expenses-paid annual multicultural journalism training program for talented high school students of diverse backgrounds.

The program will celebrate its 16th year in 2016 at the George Washington University School of Media and Public Affairs in Washington, D.C., August 1 – 6. The six-day camp brings students together for intensive training in writing, photography, broadcast, online media and reporting led by professional journalists.

JCamp is free and open to current freshmen, sophomores and juniors in high school. Students of all races and ethnicities are encouraged to apply before the March 13, 2016 deadline.

Oversea Taiwanese Youth’s Volunteer Service Opportunity in Taiwan

Youth English Teaching Volunteer Service Program in Taiwan

APPLICATION PERIOD

PROGRAM ACTIVITIES
The program will be held from July 2 to July 30, 2016. There are 445 volunteer spots available this year including a Hakka group for 70 descendants of Hakka people. Volunteers will participate in training courses during the first week then teach English at one of various remote schools during the second and third weeks. The Hakka group will be specifically assigned to different schools located in Hakka culture-concentrated areas. A tour of various areas of Taiwan will be conducted during the last week.

QUALIFICATIONS FOR APPLICATION
（1）Applicants must be between the ages of 17 and 25 (as shown on passport) by November 30, 2016, and must currently reside in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa, or Belize.
（2）Applicants must currently be in 11th grade or higher; applicants in higher grades of study will be preferred.
（3）English must be the applicant’s native language.
（4）The applicant must be in good health.
（5）The applicant must be highly motivated and have basic communication capability of spoken Mandarin.
（6）The applicant must have never participated in any previous AID Summer or Winter programs.
（7）The Hakka group participants must be recommended by authorized Hakka organizations.
（8）The program is recommended for applicants of Chinese or Taiwanese descent, but some openings are available for non-expatriate youths who are advocates of Taiwan.

PROGRAM INFORMATION
（1）Each participant will be arranged to serve at one of various remote schools after completing the training courses.
（2）Program participants will be assisting elementary or junior high school students at these schools.
（3）The volunteers will teach English with a self-designed lesson plan.
（4）Meals will be comprised of mainly Chinese food.
（5）Accommodations: 4 to 6 people per room, separated by gender.
（6）Participants must serve for the entire duration of the program with exceptions made for health complications or other unexpected conditions. OCAC will issue a certificate of 80 service hours printed both in Chinese and English to those who have finished the whole program.
（7）Participants are required to submit a reflection essay at the end of the program. OCAC will reward a memorial program DVD to those who submit their reflections and revise their original teaching plans.

APPLICATION LOCATIONS
Please apply through Taipei Economic and Cultural / Representative Offices in the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, United Kingdom, Ireland, South Africa and Belize or their affiliated Cultural Centers (see the registration office page for the detailed addresses). Application forms can be obtained at the above offices or downloaded online at the website of OCAC / expatriate youth activities (www.ocac.gov.tw) or the program website (www.aidsummer.net). Please submit the completed application package, the application form including other required documents as detailed in “Application Procedures”, to the above office nearest your permanent address by March 1, 2016.

SUBMISSION OPTIONS

APPLICATION PROCEDURES
（1）The following documents (the application package) must be submitted by mail to the Cultural Center nearest your permanent address:
a)  Application form (see the attachment for a sample)
b)  Internet Registration Sheet (aka a printout of the confirmation page after finishing online registration).
c)  Signed General Regulations sheet (see the attachment)
d)  A copy of the applicant’s passport, insurance card and birth certificate
e)  A 1½ inch photo taken within six months of the date of submission adhered to the application form
f)  Personal Data Consent Form and personal essay
g)  Unofficial transcript (including all cumulative grades from the institute(s) of your highest level of education).
（2）Along with the application package that you must mail yourself, you must also order an official transcript from your school. Have the school mail the transcript directly to the same Cultural Center where you sent your application package .
（3）Online registration will open starting January 25, 2016 or earlier at the website (www.aidsummer.net). The applicant should create an account online to fill in their personal information and upload an autobiography or essay, a copy of their transcript, a personal photo, and a copy of the completed application form. After completing the online registration procedures, print out the portfolio page (Internet Registration Sheet) and submit it with the above mentioned documents as part of the application package to the Taipei Economic and Cultural / Representative Offices or one of the affiliated Cultural Centers nearest your permanent address. See the registration office page for a list of detailed addresses. Do not mail the health form with your application package. You will be instructed to complete the form only after you are admitted to the programr.
（4）Your admission status with the program will be posted to your online account on the website (www.aidsummer.net) around the beginning of April, 2016. Those admitted should confirm attendance of the program online, then, within the next 14 days, have their family doctor complete the Health Form included here, upload a copy of the signed certificate onto their account, and mail the original to the same Taipei Economic and Cultural / Representative Offices or Cultural Center where the application package was sent. If the applicant decides not to participate in the program, he/she should log in to the website and mark “Decline” in his/her personal account as early as possible. Those who decide to participate are required to provide their arrival flight information online with a copy of their purchased airline ticket and submit a request for airport pick-up if necessary, all before May 15, 2016. The conditional admission may be withdrawn without the required information beng uploaded on time.

PROGRAM FEES
* For the duration of the program, the sponsors will pay for the meals, accommodations and group transportation in Taiwan. The sponsors will also provide NT$4,000,000 travel insurance and NT$400,000 medical insurance.
* The participant must pay the following expenses:
（1）Round-trip air fares from the country of residence to Taiwan.
（2）Personal medical expenses exceeding the insurance’s coverage.
（3）Accommodation and other expenses if the participant arrives earlier or leaves later.

VISA
The program will last for 28 days. The participant should contact the nearby Taipei Economic and Cultural / Representative Offices beforehand to apply for a proper visa. Visa Exempt Entry and Landing Visa are NOT appropriate for any stay over its maximum duration allowance depending on their passport. (For example, USA and Canada are on the 90-days Visa Waiver Country list.) The OCAC and program organizer will not be held responsible for any inconvenience that may be caused if the participant’s visa is expired or otherwise incorrect.

IMPORTANT NOTICE
Admitted applicants can not request specific hosting school assignments and must not take break or leave the program for visiting relatives, friends, or personal matters. The program sponsors have the right to withdraw certificates of volunteer service if volunteers do not fully participate in all activities assigned in the first three weeks, follow the hosting school’s rules, and/or fulfill their responsibilities to the program. Exceptions will be made in cases of emergency and/or hospitalization.

NIDDK Diversity Summer Research Training Program (DSRTP) for Undergraduate Students

The National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) through the Office of Minority Health Research Coordination invite students to submit their application for the Summer Research Training Program.

The overall goal of this program is to build and sustain a biomedical, behavioral, clinical and social science research pipeline focused on NIDDK mission areas. The NIDDK Diversity Summer Program is particularly interested in increasing students from backgrounds underrepresented in biomedical research, including individuals from disadvantaged backgrounds and individuals from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups.

At the end of the summer, students participate in the NIH Summer Research Program Poster Day. This provides an opportunity for students to present their work before the NIH scientific community. Students are also expected to participate in meetings and seminars in their individual laboratories. In addition, with permission from their preceptors, students may also attend formal lectures and symposia, which are listed in the weekly “NIH Calendar of Events.” The NIH Calendar of Events is only available for students working at the NIH campus in Bethesda, Maryland.

Research performed by the laboratories and branches of the NIDDK covers an extraordinarily diverse area but is unified by a commitment to excellence in both basic and clinical investigation. The basic science laboratories include outstanding groups in many facets of modern molecular biology, structural biology, including x-ray crystallography and NMR, cell biology, and pharmacology. Systems under study include viruses, prokaryotes and eukaryotes, including yeast and mammalian cells. Developmental biology is represented by studies ranging from those on cellular slime molds to those on mouse oocyte development. Several laboratories use the most up-to-date techniques in receptor pharmacology, natural products chemistry, and organic chemistry to study a wide variety of compounds, particularly neuroactive agents. Not only biochemical but also mathematical and physical chemical methods are applied to a variety of fundamental problems.

The clinical branches of NIDDK combine basic science and clinical investigation with patient care. Several branches study endocrine diseases and general aspects of signal transduction, including growth factor and hormone action. Molecular biologic and molecular genetic techniques have been used to elucidate specific gene mutations representing the underlying defect in a variety of diseases, including thyroid hormone resistance, certain forms of diabetes, and other disorders of signal transduction. Several NIDDK scientists have created transgenic and knockout mice models of human diseases.

  • Official Transcript – The official college transcript should be mailed directly from your school to Ms. Martinez.
  • Application selection – Priority will be given to students who reside outside of the Maryland/Washington DC/Virginia areas.  Local students are encouraged to apply for the NIH Summer Internship Program​ (SIP).

Fashion Summer Course 2016, Italy

Description

These courses are part of the “Milan Summer School” project, an event organized by the Milan Municipality in cooperation with the most important schools and universities of Milan.

The summer fashion study abroad is conducted on an individual basis, in which each student is privately instructed. Thanks to our concise and structured method of teaching, we can offer a significant and complete experience in a short period of time. Both students who are just beginning in the fashion field and those who already have studied or possess work experience will benefit from this course. We don’t teach a particular style (the same for all students) here at the school we build specifically on the individuals style with teaching face to face.

Prior to beginning the lessons, each student will decide which program is appropriate with the aid of their instructor.

Costs

The total amount of the course for 100 hours (1700 Euro) and enrollment fee (500 Euro) is Euro 2200.

The total amount of the course for 50 hours (1000 Euro) and enrollment fee (500 Euro) is Euro 1500.

If you need our reference for your Student Visa we will be able to send them after a full payment of tuition fee is paid. Ask to Italian Embassy or Consulate of your country if Student Visa is required.

Refund fee rules:

For enrollment fee (500 Euro) no refunds will be issued. For tuition fee: Cancel before May 30, 2016, you’ll get a full refund. Cancel before June 30, 2016 you’ll get a 50%. After June 30, 2016 no refunds will be issued.
