2014 RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship

Description
The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) champions better buildings, communities and the environment through architecture and our members. They provide the standards, training, support and recognition that put their members – in the UK and overseas – at the peak of their profession. The RIBA is now inviting applications from architecture students at RIBA/CAA-validated schools around the world for the 2014 RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship. The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship has been running since 2007.
The spirit of the scholarship is based on Lord Foster’s own experience as a student of architecture: ’As a student I won a prize that allowed me to spend a summer travelling through Europe to study first hand buildings and cities that I knew only from the pages of books. It was a revelation – liberating and exhilarating in so many ways. Today it is my privilege to fund the RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship, which I hope will have a lasting legacy – offering the chance for discovery and the inspiration for exciting new work – for generations to come.’
Eligibility
Eligible students must:
- be enrolled in an RIBA or CAA validated degree programme or in a programme from a specially invited school or architecture centre
- have successfully completed at least the first year of a Part 1 degree.
Each school can only submit one application produced by one student.
Scholarship
The RIBA Norman Foster Travelling Scholarship, generously supported by Lord Foster and Foster + Partners, offers one travelling scholarship of £6,000 to a student of architecture to support international research on a topic and at locations of the student’s choosing.
The travel should take place between June-October 2014. The topic of the research should however, relate to the survival of our cities and towns and fall under one of the following themes:
- learning from the past to inform the future;
- the future of society;
- density of settlements;
- sustainability;
- use of resources;
- quality of urban life;
- transport.

Deadline for submitting complete applications is 5pm on Friday 25 April 2014.
The application consists of:
- one completed application form signed by the student and the Head of School and
- one A1 ‘poster’ presented as a pdf file detailing the proposal (topic, objective, locations). Applicants are restricted to 500 words for the poster submission and the file size should not exceed 5 MB. Applicants that exceed these limits may jeopardise their chances of success.

The Intercultural Innovation Award 2014

Description
The Intercultural Innovation Award is a partnership between the United Nations Alliance of Civilizations (UNAOC) and the BMW Group that aims to select and support the most innovative grassroots projects that encourage intercultural dialogue and cooperation around the world.
Eligibility
Not-for-profit organizations that are active in promoting intercultural understanding, with a track record of managing intercultural projects and willingness to expand their range of action, are eligible to apply. These organizations should be working in the fields of:
- migration and integration;
- intercultural awareness;
- education for intercultural citizenship;
- and/or the role of specific groups (faith-based; women; youth; media)
Award
The Intercultural Innovation Award is bestowed upon ten organizations every year. Winners will become members of the World Intercultural Facility for Innovation (WIFI) and the awardees get one-year support and consulting from the UNAOC and the BMW Group. The WIFI, a program initiated by the UNAOC in cooperation with the BMW Group, helps winners to become more efficient and to expand. WIFI also enables successful projects to be replicated in other contexts or settings where they might be relevant. The specific support received will depend on the individual needs of the projects.
A detailed needs assessment will be conducted in conjunction with each of the winners. The UNAOC and the BMW Group and a Mentoring Group will then mobilize resources to help those projects achieve their goals. After one year, a comprehensive evaluation will be performed in order to assess the impact of the Award on the winners.

This year’s edition includes 5 days of lectures on: neuropsychology of creativity and culture, cognitive psychology, business and negotiations psychology, popular psychology and psychology in connection with body. There’s also a social programme which offers a range of activities including a one-day sightseeing tour, visiting 2 museums, rotation dinner, parties and experiencing nightlife in Warsaw.

Description
International Law Competition “Youth for Peace” is an annual contest for law students from different countries. The participants are expected to demonstrate excellent knowledge of international humanitarian law, international public law and human rights law, as well as ability to adjust to the changing environment. The Competition provides law students with an opportunity to enrich and extend their knowledge in the sphere of international humanitarian law through participation in the simulated armed conflict. In previous 9 years the Competition has seen student teams from more than 35 countries around the world.

- July 4th, 2014 – deadline for the conformation of participation by the selected teams, payment of the registration fee, and provision of the information on the teams’ arrival/departure to the OC. Hiroshima International Animation Festival Competition 2014

Description
Hiroshima International Animation Festival is a biennial manifestation held in Hiroshima City in August, endorsed by Association Internationale du Film d’Animation (ASIFA). It was established in 1985, as a project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the atomic bombing. On the occasion of the 14th edition Hiroshima 2012, the competition attracted 2,110 entries from 63 countries and regions, and 34,715 people participated during the five days of the festival.
The fifteenth international animation festival Hiroshima has recently announced the Call for Entries for its 2014 competition, inviting entries from animators around the world. Short animated films of no more than 30 minutes, completed after 1st April 2012, can be submitted.
Hiroshima International Animation Festival was established in 1985, as a project commemorating the 40th anniversary of the atomic bombing. From the beginning, Hiroshima City and ASIFA shared the same idea, that is, to promote the international mutual understanding and to pursue eternal world peace through the development of animation art, which is a medium common to all human beings beyond nations and languages. The creation of this festival was largely due to the earnest efforts of the two animation filmmakers like Renzo Kinoshita, who at that time was serving as a Board Member of ASIFA and the President of ASIFA-Japan, and Sayoko Kinoshita, who was serving as the General Secretary of ASIFA-Japan. Sayoko has been the festival director since the first edition, dedicating herself to lay foundation of this festival until today, and is now also the Vice-President of ASIFA and President of ASIFA-Japan.
Eligibility
The following are the qualifications required for entry works in the Festival:
- Entry works shall be made “frame by frame”, including computer graphics animation;
- Entries shall be either film or videotape;
- Films shall be presented in 16mm or 35mm format and use an optical soundtrack system. Films should also have a 3m leader;
- Videotapes shall be on HDCAM-NTSC or Digital Betacam-NTSC format. Videotapes shall start with a color-bar for 1 minute and 5 seconds black;
- Running time shall be within 30 minutes;
- Works shall be those that have been completed after April 1, 2012;
- Copyrighted characters, scripts, music, etc., cannot be used in the works without the copyright owner’s agreement. Failure to obtain such agreement will result in the works being disqualified from competition;
- Each film or videotape shall contain one work only;
- Works which have already been awarded prizes at other festivals are eligible. In this case, a listing of all awards and prizes received must be fully indicated on the entry form.
Awards
The official prizes are:
- Grand Prize:¥1,000,000;
- Hiroshima Prize: ¥1,000,000;
- Debut Prize: ¥500,000;
- Renzo Kinoshita Prize: ¥300,000.
There will be also a Special International Jury Prize and a Special Prize. The Organizing Committee also welcomes certain organizations wishing to present its own special prizes and cash awards.

WHAT MOVES YOU is not just a question. It is the largest Youth Eurythmy Project worldwide. Join us in 2014 and become part of an unique community for a summer full of energy, music and movement. Perform Antonin Dvoraks famous Ninth Symphony on stage together with young people of your age. As a participant you will work on a Eurythmy program choreographed by master teachers just for this event. A project for young people aged 17 to 23 in Berlin, Germany, 13 July – 11 August 2014. Participants will work in groups on Antonin Dvorak´s 9th Symphony „From The New World“ and other works in Speech Eurythmy (texts, poems, etc.), which will be performed at the end of the 4 project weeks.
Eligibility
You may participate if you are between 17 and 23 years old and bring prior experience in Eurythmy (such as a Waldorf student / alumni). Registration is required. Non-adult participants will also need a written permission from their parents. Students require a written permission to leave their school, should the project period won’t be within holidays.
Costs
The participation fee of € 800,- includes all course fees, workshops, tours, costumes, accommodation, care and meals for four weeks. It can be paid in two rates. With your application, a non-refundable application fee of € 25,- applies. Applications for scholarships and travel grants will be accepted.

United for Dignity Conference 2014 , France

Description
The participation of young Roma plays an essential role in the transformation of the status and challenges faced by Roma communities across Europe. The youth sector in co-operation with the LGBT unit has carried out a study and to elaborate a publication of life stories of young Roma affected by multiple discrimination in 2013 – 2014. The study and publication will focus on representing the specific situations that young Roma face. It will also be a first case study by the Council of Europe on multiple discrimination experienced by LGBT persons. The publication is intended as a resource in educational activities and should support the development of responses to situations of discrimination affecting young people; in this respect, it can be used for advocacy actions at policy level as well. The publication pertaining to this study will be launched during the conference. In brief, the rationale for the conference is based on:
- the need to understand better the situation of young Roma people affected by multiple discrimination;
- the need to have a forum of discussion among youth organisations and other partners about including in their work with and for young people facing discrimination a specific concern on multiple discrimination;
- the need to promote the study on multiple discrimination;
- the need to have a forum for proposals on future work on this topic, at different levels and by the partners involved.
The conference is intended as a forum to raise awareness of and to explore and formulate responses to situations of multiple discrimination affecting young Roma.
The keywords of the activity are:
- youth event, as the activity aims to bring together a diversity of youth organisations, Roma and non-Roma, that have in common their work on issues relating to discrimination, and also other profiles of participants, such as researchers and policy makers;
- a better understanding, as the activity aims to raise awareness on the specificities of multiple discrimination and their impact on young Roma people;
- networking, as the activity aims to create an opportunity for organizations working with diverse groups of young people (Roma, LGBT, migrants, young women etc.) to find common concerns;
- interventions, as the activity aims to bring about proposals for how to address multiple discrimination and what strategies youth organisations and other partners should develop to reflect better in their work the needs of young people affected by multiple discrimination;
- tools, as the activity aims to promote the study on life stories of young Roma people affected by multiple discrimination.
Eligibility
The conference will gather some 40 participants, with the following profiles:
- Young people and activists involved in the study on multiple discrimination;
- Youth leaders and activists from civil society that work on discrimination issues, particularly with regards to the situation of Roma young people;
- Participants involved in human rights law bodies, human rights monitoring bodies, policy making etc.;
- Partners of the Roma Youth Action Plan and the LGBT stakeholders;
- Researchers.
Candidates should equally:
- Be in a position to use the outcomes of the Conference in their work;
- Be resident in one of the countries that have signed the European Cultural Convention;
- Be actively involved in combating discrimination, either through direct assistance to the young people facing discrimination, or through education, campaigning, lobby and advocacy at the local, national or European levels;
- Be supported by their organization;
- Be available to attend the event for its full duration.
The activity intends to be a youth event primarily and have a direct impact on youth organisations working on anti-discrimination issues.
Costs
The conference will be held from 24 to 26 June at the European Youth Centre in Strasbourg. Selected participants are requested to attend and participate for the entire duration of the conference, please plan your arrival for the 23 June and your departure for the 27 June.
Accommodation and meals for the conference will be provided and paid by the Council of Europe. Travel costs and visa fees for the seminar will be fully reimbursed according to Council of Europe rules.
