The National Security Language Initiative for Youth (NSLI-Y) program, sponsored by the U.S. Department of State, provides merit-based scholarships for eligible high school students and recent high school graduates to learn less commonly taught languages in summer and academic-year overseas immersion programs.

NSLI-Y is part of a U.S. government initiative that prepares American citizens to be leaders in a global world. Now more than ever, it is important that Americans have the necessary linguistic skills and cultural knowledge to promote international dialogue and support American engagement abroad. NSLI-Y aims to provide opportunities to American youth that will spark a lifetime interest in language learning.

NSLI-Y PROGRAMS

NSLI-Y programs offer intensive language immersion in a variety of locations around the world. Beginners are welcome to apply for any of the target languages.

THE JET PROGRAM USA

We are happy to announce that the application for 2016 JET Program is Now available!

*All application materials must be received by the JET Program Office in Washington DC by the above mentioned deadline to be considered.

JET Program USA

The JET Program Application is made up of not only the form accessed through the Online Application Portal, but also required and supplemental documents (read more on theRequired Documents page).  It can take time to acquire all of these documents, so we encourage you to begin your 2016 JET Program Application as soon as possible.  Once you have created an Application Profile, you can save it and return to it later, so please start early and put as much time and thought into completing your application as you can. You do not have to complete it in one session.

Instructions will be provided in the Online Application Portal, but before you proceed, please make sure you have read and understood the Eligibility Requirements and 2016 Application Guidelines. You should also have a general understanding of the Application Process.

The Online Application Portal is where you will manage and submit your application. You will also be able to check the status of your application and report issues or questions to the JET Program Office.

All U.S. applications for the JET Program must be submitted through the Online Application Portal. It is open to new applicants during the fall application period only.

Social Impact Media Video Contest

Filmmakers and activists can submit videos that inspire activism, compassion and social transformation.

The Social Impact Media Awards (SIMA) is accepting entries for its international documentary and educational media competition and showcase, funded by documentary companies and human rights organizations.

The categories are feature, short and impact video. Feature documentaries must be a minimum of 40 minutes, shorts a maximum of 39 minutes and impact videos 2 to 20 minutes long.

All (non-English language) documentaries and educational impact videos must be subtitled in English.

Winners in each category will receive from US$500 to US$1,000.

The early bird deadline is Sept. 26. The regular deadline is Oct. 9. The entry fee starts at US$5.

International Youth Summit – Tashkent

Description

Young Leaders Development Project in Uzbekistan welcomes 300 international and local youth delegates on March 25th-27th, 2016. The project conducts International Youth Summit in Uzbekistan under the theme:”Our heritage, Our future”.

The aim of the event is to bring together the brightest students, youth activists, leaders of the society, entrepreneurs, professors and businessmen to start a dialogue on building a stable, peaceful society today and tomorrow based on national values and traditions.

The main organizer of the Summit is Young Leaders Development Project in Tashkent, a social project of Uzbekistan Teachers of English Association aiming at supporting enthusiastic and active young people to develop their personality and professionalism.

The initiatives and ideas to be presented at the forum will be discussed in English language, directed to improving leadership skills and covering  the following key categories:

  • *What do we mean when we say family?
  • *How can we preserve national values and traditions?
  • *What is the role of the youth in preserving national values and traditions?
  • *What threatens to universal mankind values?

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • *be no younger than 18 and no older than 27 years old
  • *demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and potential to become a key leader in your community
  • *have passion to create positive social change and willingness to use Summit experience in your leadership position
  • *be active either in politics, civil society organizations, media, business sector or local communities
  • *have a good command of written and spoken English

Costs

  1. International participants: Participation fee is €50. For all scholarship based participants YLDP will take responsibility to cover participation fee, handouts, accommodation, 3 meals (full board), special events, trips and transportation. However, all international participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and associated VISA costs (if needed) to Uzbekistan.
  2. Local participants: No participation fee. For all scholarship based participants YLDP will take responsibility to cover participation fee, handouts, accommodation, 3 meals (full board), special events, trips and transportation. Non-scholarship based participants are responsible for their own travel arrangements and accommodation.

Deadline for both International and local participantsis 31st of December, 2015. Applicants in need of scholarship support are urged to apply before the priority deadline. While scholarship support is available after the early deadline, it is allocated on a rolling basis and earlier applications are given priority.

Trip to Palestine March 2016 and August 2016. Don’t Miss It!

You are invited to join the Excellence Center for a Trip to Palestine 2016, Hebron, Palestine.  The Excellence Center, centrally located in Hebron, is an English language school providing the best in English language opportunities for the local population.  The Trip to Palestine program is a cultural immersion for international persons seeking an experience that  allows the participant to become a cultural ambassador for his/her home country, while experiencing and familiarizing him/herself with the daily life of Palestinians, and the region’s rich history.  The Excellence Center will provide participants with an entertaining, enriching, and dynamic stay. The Trip to Palestine will provide internationals with opportunities to:

Internship Opportunity at International Eurasia Press Fund

International Eurasia Press Fund is pleased to announce an opportunity for interns to work at the IEPF office.

The purpose of the internship is to provide personal and professional development opportunities for students and young professionals. This is an unpaid internship. Upon completion, the intern will be given a final written evaluation and a certificate of achievement, based on performance.

ROLE OVERVIEW:

OECD Youth Poster Competition

Deadline: 10 October 2015
Open to: applicants aged 15-25 during the period of this competition
Prize: public exhibition of winning posters during the OECD Ministerial Meeting in Helsinki

Description

To create a poster reflecting the challenge of fixing government to include more voices in public decisions and help address growing income inequality. Using the powerful poster format, young people are invited to express their unique views and ideas on how we can change the rules so that everyone can have access to better public services (such as schools and healthcare) and a better life (through less unemployment, better jobs and job satisfaction, less discrimination and more opportunities for all). The poster should be motivating and visual and they should address one of the following themes:

  • Giving young people a voice in the government decision process;
  • Opportunity for all! (Everyone deserves access to good schools, good health care, good jobs, a decent salary, a healthy environment, etc…);
  • Including more voices and more diverse voices in government decisions creates societies that are fairer to all;
  • Improving everyone’s well-being results in a stronger society than just concentrating on more material wealth (GDP);
  • The negative effects of income inequality on society;
  • An idea for reducing income inequality;
  • Changing the rules to help everyone have access to a better life;
  • Encouraging government to listen to everyone, not just to those with the most power and influence;
  • Getting involved in school, neighbourhood, community or larger organisations to make things better, such as providing better services.

Eligibility

All competitors and their posters must meet following requirements:

  • For the poster entry to be eligible, applicants must be 15-25 years old during the period of this competition (Competition closes on 16 October 2015);
  • If any words are used in the poster that are not in English or French, a translation must be provided;
  • A poster must not portray violence, profanity or direct attacks on individuals or organisations. Offensive entries will be disqualified;
  • A poster must not infringe on any third party rights.

Prize

Winning posters will be displayed in an exclusive poster gallery during the OECD Ministerial Meeting in Helsinki on 27-28 October 2015 bringing together ministers and high-level officials from countries around the world.

How to apply?

The deadline for applications is 10 October 2015. Posters may be created digitally or traditionally (on paper).     PLEASE NOTE: You will not be able to save and resume this application once you have started. If you close the application before it has been submitted, your responses will not be recorded and you will need to start over.

    It is recommended that you compose and edit your written responses in a separate document and copy and paste them into this application. It is also advised that you gather your attachments (completedsupplemental application, copy of passport, and photo) prior to beginning this application.

    In addition to your responses on this form, a complete application will include:
    1. A completed and hand signed supplemental application.
    2. A current photo (taken within 3 months).
    3. A copy of your valid passport. If you do not have a valid passport at this time, you may submit this application without it and still be considered, but you must submit a copy of your passport no later than the dates listed below for each trip.
