The Gilman Scholarship Program aims to diversify the kinds of students who study and intern abroad and the regions where they go.

The Gilman Scholarship is sponsored by the U.S. Department of State’s Bureau of Educational and Cultural Affairs and is open to U.S. undergraduate students who demonstrate high financial need.

The application for Summer 2015 and Fall 2015/Academic Year 2015-2016 will open in mid-January. 

The Green-Go Short Film Contest 2014

Description

Green-Go was launched in 2010 for one simple reason: to let the arty people all around the globe express their views and opinions on current pressing issues of nature and society through their short films.  Although in its only fourth year, the Green-Go Short Film Contest and Festival has become one of the most known “green” short film contests organised and run by youngsters.

The organisers of Green-Go Short Film Contest are waiting for creative, eye-opener short films in the following three categories:

  • Nature works for us! Show us how nature works for us all or what would happen without the services of nature!
  • Feeding the world sustainably – Celebrating the International Year of Family Farming. Show the importance of family farms, small-scale agriculture, traditional knowledge, and the need for more sustainable agriculture and more responsible consumers’ choice!.
  • Fighting climate change and disasters with natural solutions. Show how climate change threatens us, how we can fight climate change with simple, natural solutions and what existing solutions there are in the world already.

Eligibility

This call is open to anyone who create a short film that fulfill the following requirements:

  • A campaign film with maximum of 60 seconds OR
  • A short film between 60 seconds and 4 minutes

The films can be made in any genre (cartoon, animation, puppet film, documentary, interviews, etc) The shocking, saucy or dumfounding, in brief the eye-opener and impressive films will get a big plus during the evaluation.

Prizes

The prizes are:

  • Award-winner in each of the three categories:  325 Euro
  • Public-award for one film based on the online public votes: 170 Euro

Application

Candidates must fill out the online application form and send before 10 December, 2014 CET 18:00:

  • the original film file (in any film format) via the below detailed file transfer websites in high resolution (at least 720 px wide)
  • time-coded subtitle file in English (.srt format). A separate time coded subtitle file must be attached also to films without dialogues but with floating titles/texts. Only English subtitles are accepted
  • 3 captions from the short film (.jpg format)

International Cultural Fellowships in St. Petersburg, Russia

Description

The Likhachev Foundation (St. Petersburg, Russia) together with Committee on External Relations of Saint Petersburg and B. Yeltsin Presidential Center (Moscow, Russia) announces a competition for ten 2-week cultural fellowships in Russia (St. Petersburg) from May 11 till May 24, 2015.

The fellowships are open to professional in the field or arts and culture who work on projects related to Russian culture. The creative project could be a museum exhibition project, a theater production, a film, a photo exhibition, preparation of fiction or research books, etc. related to Russian culture or history. The creative project should be conceived in a foreign country and should be aimed at a broad audience. Two-week residency in Russia should serve as an important stage in the realization of the applicant’s cultural project.

The Likhachev Foundation will prepare individual programs for the fellows according to their projects’ specifics, to help them achieve maximum results during their fellowships. These programs will include meetings with Russian colleagues, opportunities to work at St. Petersburg museums, libraries, archives, and other organizations. Thank you for supporting!

Eligibility

The Likhachev Foundation accepts applications from professionals in the field of culture and history or arts from foreign countries who are currently working on creative projects related to Russian culture or history. Command of the Russian language is very helpful but not required.

Fellowship

The organizers will cover accommodation and travel costs to and from St. Petersburg.

​Peace Revolution Artistic Meditation Retreat 2015 in Thailand

This Artistic Meditation Retreat will take place from August 11th to 24th, 2015 and will combine a two-week meditation and self-discipline training with artistic creation, where the artist participants will be guided into meditation by the Teaching Monks three times a day.

  • Reclaiming the self and gaining self confidence.
  • The role of the basic human self-disciplines
  • The role of our habits in our daily life
  • The Factors that Determine Our Perception to Think, Act and Speak;

Objectives

  • To bring a group of artists together into a charming, unique and special atmosphere where everyone will inspire and positively influence each other.
  • To empower artists and offer the ideal space for them to create artworks
  • To allow artists to learn practical methods for stress management and ways to increase emotional intelligence and express this through creativity
  • Provide the participating artists with tools to attain inner peace through mindfulness, self-discipline and compassion.

  • Artists from any age above 18, from all around the world, practising any artistic discipline are encouraged to apply for the Artistic Meditation Retreat in Thailand, August 2015.
  • Applicants must have a good proficiency in written and spoken English language.
  • Applicants are optimistic, open-minded, show leadership potential, and have a genuine interest in peace.
  • Applicants must complete the 42 days online Self-Development Program before the 16th June 2015. Please kindly note that in order to submit the application form, candidates do not need to have completed the online self-development program.
  • Artist should be 18-30 years old at the time of submitting the application in order to receive the airfare support.

Kosovo – Serbia Round Table Dialogue 2015 in Pristina/Kosovo

Description

Kosovo – Serbia Round Table Dialogue This is a diplomatic simulation for academics from all around the world, about the conflict between Kosovo and Serbia. From this Conference we’d like to achieve more peaceful diplomacy for next generations of Kosovo and Serbia’s youth. It will be held in two rounds, the first round will take place in Pristina (Kosovo) on 20-22th February 2015 in Hotel Sirius. Next round will take place in Serbia in April. It mainly aims to provide people between the ages of 16 – 30 years with more insight and knowledge on how this conflict can be solved. All participants will be assigned as representatives of a country which will be assigned by Organization committee after applicants will complete all registration procedures.

There will be 70 representative countries , mainly all European Countries and also the involvement of USA and CANADA as observer states.

With 2 days intensive debates , with over 70 participants from all around the world , accompanied by guests speakers from Kosovo and Serbian Government , First round of the dialogue will be held in Sirius Conference Center , Pristina , Kosovo.

Eligibility

In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:

  • be between the ages of 16 and 30 years old ;
  • be citizen of European Countries + USA, Canada;
  • Students, Researchers, Diplomats, Politicians;
  • possess upper-intermediate English proficiency.

The Master in Democratic Governance

Description

The European Inter-University Centre for Human Rights and Democratisation (EIUC) opens applications for the new Master in Democratic Governance- Democracy and Human Rights in the MENA Region (DE.MA).

  • DE.MA was created thanks to the support of the European Union and of the Danish Institute for Human Rights. It is based on a partnership between EIUC and the following universities: Cadi Ayyad University (Marrakech, Morocco), International University of Rabat (Rabat, Morocco), Carthage University (Tunis, Tunisia), Birzeit University (Birzeit, Palestine), St Joseph University (Beirut, Lebanon), Ca’ Foscari University (Venice, Italy).

 

  • DE.MA is unique in its nature for its features and objectives. It is open to professionals and licensed students. It will combine a theoretical and practical approach and it will deliver a joint Master’s degree from both Ca’ Foscari University in Venice and Cadi Ayyad University in Marrakech, Morocco. DE.MA is a multidisciplinary curriculum offering courses in law, political science, sociology and other fields relevant to the study of democratic governance and Human Rights. The first semester from January to April 2015 is held at the premises of EIUC in Venice, while the second one from April to July 2015 takes place in one of the partner universities in the Master’s Consortium.

 

  • DE.MA is meant to play an active role in the ongoing debate about the principles underpinning the transition of political regimes to democracy.

It aims to:

  • Create high-profile experts in the fields of democratic governance and the protection of human rights, allowing them to act as promoters of a process leading to the affirmation of the democratic principles;
  • Foster the creation of an élite group of people in the promotion of democratic institutions;
  • Build a network of experts in political institutions, in national and international, governmental and non-governmental organisations in the Region.

The presence of academics, professionals and students from different countries, coupled with the knowledge-sharing and the international mobility, make this Master a unique and excellent opportunity to get an in-depth knowledge and to build up skills in the field of democratic governance and human rights. Moreover, participants will be plunged in a truly international environment and they will be part of a Mediterranean network of high-level faculty, experts and prestigious international partners.

Eligibility

Applicants are required to hold a university degree of a high standard in a field relevant to democracy and human rights of minimum 180 ECTS or equivalent (Bachelor/General Degree). Additional studies and relevant experience in the area of human rights are an asset. Fluency in English and knowledge of Arabic is highly recommended.

Scholarship

EIUC provides large possibility of tuition waivers, and grants covering most of the accommodation and subsistence costs during the first and second semester. Furthermore, all participants will be supported with finding accommodation and with administrative procedures for getting the visa.

Only applications submitted with the form provided below will be accepted.

The entire application, including the motivation and the CV, has to be submitted in English.

Please also include a non-certified English translation of the required proofs, if the original certificates were not issued in English, French, Spanish or Italian.

Applications will be processed on an on-going basis. The sooner you send your application the more chances you will have to be accepted in the Master in Democratic Governance.

The United Nations Democracy Fund Grants

Grant: ranging from US$100,000 to US$300,000

Description

The United Nations Democracy Fund invites civil society organizations to apply for funding for projects to advance and support democracy during the annual proposal window, which is open only from 15 November to 31 December at www.un.org/democracyfund. Only on-line proposals during this period, in either English or French, will be accepted.

Eligibility

Organizations working in the areas of media, youth, women, democratization, community development, and rule of law and human rights are eligible

Grant

Project grants range between US$100,000 and US$300,000.

Application

Projects that are two years long are accepted. Project proposals must fall under one or more of six main areas: media, youth, women, democratization, community development, and rule of law and human rights.

Proposals must be submitted online in either English or French.

The deadline is Dec. 31.

International Development Youth Forum 2015 will be held in Tokyo, Japan from 1st of March to 8th of March 2015.
