Foreign Affairs and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy want to give tomorrow’s leaders the opportunity to demonstrate innovative thinking on the issues that shape their world.

In the 2016 Student Essay Competition, a panel from the Foreign Affairs editorial staff and the Lee Kuan Yew School of Public Policy will select one undergraduate’s essay to be published on the Foreign Affairs Web site.

Only one essay is allowed per participant. Completed entries must be submitted by 11:59 PM EST on October 15, 2016.

World Youth Conference 2016 in India

Description

The World Youth Conference 2016, “Youth for Sustainable Development” will take place from 12 to 14 November, 2016 in New Delhi, India. The Conference has a unique aim of producing a joint outcome document between states and youth, called ‘New Delhi Action Plan’.

The Conference is expected to bring together 1500 participants, half of them young people, and 150 of them will come from marginalised backgrounds, making the conference one of the most well represented youth events at the global level. The pre-conference process is led by an independent international youth task force which represents major global youth organisations and regional platforms ensuring regional and gender balance.

Eligibility

The international youth delegates will be selected according to these criteria:

Between 18 and 30
Well versed in current national/international youth policies and/or development debates
Willing and motivated to prepare the WYC together with other young people through involving in/conducting consultations to take other young people’s views to the WYC
Willing to ensure follow-up to the WYC through dissemination of outcomes and taking part in the implementation of the outcome document
Able to work in English
Supported by an organisation/community that can endorse you as a delegate (whenever possible)

Please not that gender and regional balance will be taken into account in the selection.
The role of youth delegates:

To represent their constituencies during the WYC 2016 and actively take part in the conference programme
To prepare for the WYC 2016 together with their constituencies through the organisation of consultations and other pre-conference programmes
To actively follow-up the WYC2016

Group registration is only applicable to the registration of five people or more. The company or organization requesting a group registration must nominate one group representative who will administer the group booking.

Honors Internship Program

The Honors Internship Program is a 10-week, paid internship for college undergraduate and graduate students. While exploring our exciting career options, students work side-by-side with FBI employees at our Washington, D.C. area headquarters locations, or in field offices around the country. Open to a wide range of academic areas, this internship offers experiences students can’t find anywhere else.

Internship Qualifications

General Requirements

To apply for the Honors Internship Program, applicants must:

Have U.S. Citizenship.
Attend a college or university full-time as an undergraduate (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior), graduate, or post-doctorate student. Students are not eligible if graduating before the program start date; exceptions are permitted to students continuing their education in the following immediate semester.
Have and maintain a 2.95 cumulative grade point average (GPA) or better at the time of application, throughout the application process, and the duration of the internship program.
Pass all of the FBI employment background investigation requirements and be able to receive a Top Secret security clearance

Location Choices

Intern assignments are based on the current skills needed in the FBI. As part of the application, candidates are asked to pick their top three desired field offices or headquarters locations, and these are taken into account during the selection process. Headquarters selections include the FBI’s main headquarters locations in Washington, D.C., as well as Quantico, Virginia; Clarksburg, West Virginia; Huntsville, Alabama; and Winchester, Virginia. Quantico opportunities include the Training, Operational Technology or Laboratory Divisions. Clarksburg offers opportunities at our Criminal Justice Information Services, Winchester offers opportunities at our Records Management Division, and Huntsville offers opportunities at our Terrorist Explosive Device Analytical Center (TEDAC).

Candidates who select Quantico, Clarksburg, Huntsville, or Winchester must have their own transportation to and from work, as no public transportation is available in these areas.

The Honors Internship Program is highly competitive. As such, FBI representatives select and interview the most qualified candidates based on academic achievements, area of study, life/work experiences, and the current needs of the FBI. Below is a more detailed timeline of the application process.

October 2016 through December 2016: Applicants are reviewed, selected and interviewed based on location choices, degrees, and current needs of the FBI.

Call for Applications “A New NATO for New Challenges? ” in Berlin, Germany

Description

On November 14, the German Atlantic Association, the Federal Academy for Security Policy, and the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Berlin co-host an international conference in Berlin addressing the outcomes of the NATO Summit in Warsaw 2016 against the background of rapid changes in the alliance’s security environment. Supported by the Press and Information Office of the Federal Government and NATO, high-ranking politicians, diplomats, military officials, and representatives from academia and civil society, will discuss the implementation process as well as future challenges to the alliance.

In order to foster the understanding of security politics, to establish an international dialogue among the younger generation, and to connect emerging leaders from NATO member and partner countries with senior decision-makers, YATA Germany will host a seminar from 12 – 14 November 2016 focusing on key issues of transatlantic security. In an open and competitive call for panels, the members of YATA Germany chose three topics on the basis of their ideas and expectations through the lens of NATO’s future:

✅ “How to deter digital warriors? NATO and the cyberspace”

✅ “In for the long run? NATO’s future role in crisis management”

✅ “Enlargement, enablement, entrapment? NATO’s future approach to cooperative security”

To each session, senior political and military experts will be invited to discuss with the group the ideas and recommendations of young scholars and experts in the field.

Given the special location of the conference, we are happy to provide our guests with an exclusive tour of the German capital on November 12. All NATO’s Future seminar participants will also participate in the main conference “NATO 4.0 – A new NATO for new Challenges?” on November 14 at the Hotel Adlon Kempinski, including the closing reception at the Embassy of the United Kingdom in Berlin.

Students with an academic background in International Relations and Security Studies and young professionals who have begun a career in a related field
Between 18 and 35 years of age
NATO or PfP country citizenship
Past experience and/or studies relating to: security or defense policy; democratic transitions; international law; humanitarian issues; or any other fields of relevance to the transatlantic partnership.
Working knowledge of English (German is not mandatory)

💡 There is no participation fee for the seminar. YATA Germany will offer travel reimbursements of up to €100/€200 (national/international), provided that participants will choose affordable travel options. We will also provide accommodation in central Berlin from November 12 to 15.

Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders are the global awards for local peacebuilding run by Peace Direct. Awarded annually, they offer international recognition for grassroots peace activists in conflict-affected countries worldwide.

Since Peace Direct was set up a decade ago, it’s been our mission to support and showcase the variety and scale of peacebuilding led by local people around the world. We support 11 organisations in nine countries and have profiled over 1,300 organisations through our flagship website, Insight on Conflict.

Now, we are launching our fourth Tomorrow’s Peacebuilders awards to showcase the best locally led peacebuilding organisations across the world. This year’s awards are being run in association with Alliance for Peacebuilding. Entrants will need to show how they are making communities more peaceful, or breaking the cycle of violence. A jury of international peacebuilding experts will select the winning entries.

There will be three winning entries. Each winning entry will receive:

· $10,000 prize funding for peacebuilding activities.

· Promotion of their work online, including on the Insight on Conflict and Peace Direct websites and newsletters

ELIGIBILITY

There is no geographical restriction on applications. In order to be eligible to enter, you must:

· Be undertaking peacebuilding work: your organisation will be either a peacebuilding organisation or have peacebuilding as a substantial element of your work.

· Be locally based: your organisation must be based in the country/communities where your work will be done. Your organisation should be an independent organisation, not an incountry or satellite organisation of an international NGO.

· Be working, or planning to work, in at least one of the following thematic areas: women-led peacebuilding; environmental peacebuilding; or interreligious peacebuilding.

International Day of Peace Video Campaign

The Global Peace Foundation commemorates the International Day of Peace each year.

This year we are hosting a video campaign as a global pledge for peace. Videos submissions have a chance to be showcased at the International Day of Peace event at the United Nations in New York and the Amazing the Space event in Northern Ireland.

This year Global Peace Foundation has partnered to host two signature events supporting the International Day of Pece.

In Northern Ireland, GPF is a partner in “Amazing the Space,” a event gathering 3,500 youth to celebrate their role in peacemaking.

In the United States, GFP is a partner in Tomorrow Together, a broad-based coalition of organizations encouraging Americans to commemorate “September 11 Day of Remembrance and Service” in a show of national unity through good deeds and service. Global Peace Foundation is promoting an 11-day service campaign starting on 9/11 to 9/21 the International Day of Peace.

Video Campaign Details:

This video campaign is open to all young people under the age of 25.
Video messages should be approximately 1 minute in length.
The language required is English for screening in Ireland and the UN.

Harvard Model Congress Asia 2017, Hong Kong, China

Description

Harvard Model Congress Asia is a global conference where international high school students learn and experience government while playing the roles of officials in the United States government and several international political bodies. HMC Asia strives to educate and foster the next generation of global leaders by offering a truly interactive program, featuring one-on-one communication with Harvard students, debate on pressing global issues, and cross-cultural connections among delegates from throughout Asia and around the world.

Students from more than twenty nations converge at the conference and work together to address challenges facing governments across the world. At HMCA students discuss contemporary political issues, draft policy, report news stories, and decide court cases, all under the guidance of Harvard University students. HMC Asia is an officially recognized and wholly student-run organization at Harvard College. HMCA teaches students about government and international relations by providing insights into pressing global issues and by offering a forum to discuss possible solutions. HMCA’s staff of talented Harvard undergraduate students, selected after a competitive application process, strives to encourage a passion for government and international relations by simulating international organizations and the United States government.

Costs

Delegate Fee: USD 295/person;
For HMCA 2017, both full scholarships (covers delegate fee, lodging, and transportation costs) and partial scholarships (covers delegate fee) will be awarded to support delegates for whom financial need would be a barrier to attendance;
Harvard Model Congress relies on student participant fees to cover all of our costs, which range from staff transportation to printed materials. The delegate fee includes all aspects of the conference (with the exception of hotel accommodations and meals), as well as an HMC Asia 2017 T-shirt. This fee must be paid for each delegate who is attending the conference. Delegate fees must be paid within 2 weeks of registering for the conference. Roles will not be assigned until the delegate fee is paid.

Akademie Schloss Solitude Residency Program for 2017–2019

Description

Akademie Schloss Solitude is granting Approx. 70 Residental Fellowships of 3-12 months in duration. More than 1.300 artists from more than 120 countries have developed and advanced projects at the Akademie since its opening in 1990, creating a close-knit, global network of Solitude alumni that expands from year to year.

International artists are invited to apply from the following disciplines: Architecture (design, landscape architecture, urban planning), Visual Arts (including performance art), Performing Arts (stage design, dramatic texts, dramaturgy, musical theater, performance, direction, drama, dance), Design (fashion, costume, product and furniture design, visual communication), Literature (essay, criticism, poetry, prose, translation), Music/Sound (interpretation, sound installation, sound performance, composition), Time-based Media (including video, video installation, documentary and fiction film) and Web-based Media (web design, web development/coding, web art and digital journalism). Furthermore, scholars, scientists and professionals from the disciplines of the Humanities, Social Sciences(Culture and Geopolitics), Economy/Economics (Urban Policy) and History (its practices of writing and politics in the contemporary).

The responsible specialist jurors make decisions on the allocation and the duration of the fellowships. Fellowships are granted for three to twelve months. One of the following three languages is assumed: German, English or French.

Eligibility

Persons up to 35 or if older who have completed a university or college degree within the past five years;
Several fellowships are also awarded regardless of the applicant’s age.

Fellowship

The fellowship includes the following:

A combined apartment / studio, furnished with electricity, water and heat free of charge;
A stipend amounting to EUR 1,150 monthly (plus one-time expenses incurred by the fellowship holder travelling to and from Stuttgart from his or her primary place of residence). The Akademie may also offer additional financial supplements, depending on its respective budget situation;
A supplement for so-called double housekeeping (subsidy for apartment or studio costs); freight cost subsidy for the transport of materials, tools and instruments to and from Stuttgart; a project promotion subsidy and a one-time materials subsidy; in the case of non-German guests (from non EU-countries), assumption of part of their health insurance expenses;
The use of the workshops owned by Akademie Schloss Solitude under the supervision of the technical director, are free of charge for fellowship holders.

The next application round/call for applications for fellowships from 2017–2019 will take place from 1 September 2016 to 30 November 2016. Within this time frame only, applicants will be able to register on the application website and download the application form.
