The Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme 2014/15

Description

Established by the Research Grants Council (RGC) of Hong Kong in 2009, the Hong Kong PhD Fellowship Scheme (HKPFS) aims at attracting the best and brightest students in the world to pursue their PhD studies in Hong Kong’s institutions.

Candidates who are seeking admission as new full time PhD students in the following eight institutions:

  • City University of Hong Kong
  • Hong Kong Baptist University
  • Lingnan University
  • The Chinese University of Hong Kong
  • The Hong Kong Institute of Education
  • The Hong Kong Polytechnic University
  • The Hong Kong University of Science and Technology
  • The University of Hong Kong

Eligibility

Applicants should demonstrate outstanding qualities of academic performance, research ability / potential, communication and interpersonal skills, and leadership abilities. Specific requirements vary by the program and institution.

Fellowship

The Fellowship provides an annual stipend of HK$240,000 (approximately US$30,000) and a conference and research-related travel allowance of HK$10,000 (approximately US$1,300) per year to each awardee for a period of up to three years. More than 230 PhD Fellowships will be awarded in the 2015/16 academic year.

Application

Eligible candidates should first make an Initial Application online HERE to obtain a HKPFS Reference Number by 1 December 2014 at Hong Kong Time 12:00:00 before submitting applications for PhD admission to their desired institutions.

After completing an initial application, applicants should submit full applications for their selected PhD programmes to the proposed institutions quoting their HKPFS Reference Number before the institutions’ deadlines, that are between 1 – 6 December 2014. Applicants may choose up to two programmes / departments at one or two institutions for PhD study under HKPFS 2015/16.

The Summer School 2015 on “Citizens Resilience in Times of Crises”

Open to:  graduate students as well as early career researchers throughout Europe and beyond
Venue: 5 – 11 July 2015,  in Florence at the European University Institute , Italy

Description

We are pleased to announce that the call for applications is now open for the Summer School on Citizens Resilience in Times of Crises, sponsored by the LIVEWHAT project (livewhat.unige.ch) and organized at the Centre on Social Movement Studies (COSMOS).

The Summer School will take place in Florence at the European University Institute from the 5th to the 11th of July 2015 and will address fundamental issues such as:
• How do people respond to crises in general and to the current economic crisis in particular?
• What strategies are developed to cope with the crisis in the public and in the private domain, collectively and individually, and through policies, protests and individual behaviors?
• What forms of resilience does society show in hard times?

Eligibility

The Summer School is open to 20 graduate students as well as early career researchers throughout Europe and beyond with a specialized interest in participation and mobilization during periods of crises in different fields of study, including political science, political sociology, political communication, and political anthropology

Costs

The Summer School has no fees and will provide welcome drinks and a farewell dinner, academic materials, and the use of library, computing and internet facilities. Travel and accommodation costs are not included, however the LIVEWHAT project can offer five travel and accommodation grants (€700 each) to selected participants.

Application

Applicants should email a cover letter (i.e. two pages) in which they explain how the Summer School would be beneficial to their research, a 500-word abstract of a proposed academic paper, and a curriculum vitae to    livewhat.summerschool@gmail.com.

The deadline for applications is the 15th of December 2014.

Applicants will be informed of the outcome by email no later than 30th of January. Those offered places must confirm their participation within 10 days, after which places may be offered to applicants on the reserve list. Participants to the Summer School will be required to write and submit a7000-8000 word paper before 1st June. The paper will be presented during the Summer School, providing a unique experience for discussion and feedback. English will be the working language and therefore students are expected to have a good command of written and spoken English.

Stanford Fellowship for Democracy and Development

Description

The Draper Hills Summer Fellowship on Democracy and Development is a three-week program that brings together 25 to 30 midcareer professionals in the field of democracy, development and the rule of law, especially those from developing countries. The dates for the 2015 Draper Hills Summer Fellows Program are Sunday, July 19- Friday, August 7, 2015.Applicants are required to participate in the entire duration of the fellowship program. They must be sure that they can be absent from their professional obligations during that time and must make a commitment to attend the program upon acceptance. Due to limited financial resources available, the program is unable to provide funding for families to accompany fellows to Stanford for the program.

Fellowship

The university covers travel, accommodation, living expenses and visa costs. The training program provides a forum for emerging leaders to connect, exchange experiences and receive academic training through seminars, academic readings and classroom-based curriculum.

Scholarships: Boletín de Prensa IME-Becas // Press Release IME-Becas Fellowship Program

Please find attached the Press Release on the IME-Becas Fellowship Program. The Institute of Mexicans  Abroad (IME) through the Consulate of Mexico in Saint Paul will present on November 20th $103,200 in scholarship grants for Mexican or Mexican-American students in Minnesota. The eleven beneficiary institutions that will receive the award have pledged complementary funds that will increase the impact of the Program to more than $250,000 in scholarship grants that will be made available to 180 students for the 2014-2015 school cycle.

Eligibility

The competition is open to those who meet either of the following criteria:

  • U.S. citizen or legal U.S. resident currently enrolled at a university, or recent bachelor’s graduate
  • International student currently enrolled in bachelor’s program at a U.S. university or holding a bachelor’s degree from a U.S. university

Swedish citizens are not eligible to participate in the competition, nor are non-Swedish students currently enrolled at Chalmers University eligible for participation.

In order to be eligible to claim the prize (a full tuition fee waiver), the winner needs to fulfill the enrollment requirements of Chalmers University of Technology and the specific requirements for each master’s program. The winner must be accepted into one of the four master’s programs at Chalmers’ Technology Management and Economics department, and the scholarship granted to the winning student is contingent upon his/her acceptance into their chosen program. The formal admission acceptance will be provided by University Admissions in March 2015.
NOTE: Winning the competition does not mean that admission to a master’s program is automatically guaranteed.

Applicants must possess a bachelor’s degree in engineering, science or architecture, or be in their last year of studies leading to this degree.
Note: Students interested in the program in Entrepreneurship and Business Design may also apply with a bachelor’s degree in Business, Law or Design.

Asian Women in Business Scholarship

PURPOSE AND PHILOSOPHY

The AWIB Scholarship is awarded to exceptional Asian women who demonstrate a commitment to scholarship, leadership, community service, and/or entrepreneurship. Founded in 1995, Asian Women In Business (AWIB) is the only non-profit, tax-exempt organization in the country with the primary mission of assisting Asian women entrepreneurs. Over the years, AWIB has expanded its mission to address the identified needs and issues affecting the business and professional development of Asian Americans. AWIB also serves on various task forces and boards to promote the inclusion of minority and women owned businesses and professionals.

 

 

SCHOLARSHIP AWARD

  • _Each winner will receive $2,500
  • _Applicant can be considered for an additional $2,500 (a total of $5,000) if qualified as lower middle income
  • _Awards are expected to be applied towards tuition and other education-related expenses

 

ELIGIBILITY

  • _Female and of Asian or Pacific Islander ancestry (includes those who can trace their ancestry from Bangladesh, Bhutan, Cambodia, China, India, Indonesia, Japan, Korea, Laos, Malaysia, Mongolia, Myanmar, Nepal, Philippines, Pakistan, Singapore, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, or Vietnam)
  • _Enrolled full-time in an accredited 4-year undergraduate institution in the U.S. at the time of application and award
  • _Maintain a minimum 3.0 (out of 4.0) undergraduate GPA at the time of application
  • _Have one or more of the following:
  • _A leadership role in a community endeavor
  • _A record of entrepreneurial achievement
  • _U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • _For the additional $2,500, financial need must be demonstrated by submitting a copy of the most current FAFSA form AND the Financial Aid Award Notice from your institution for the 2014-2015 academic year.

The School of Fundamental Diplomatic Skills is a course designed for university students, recent graduates and young professionals who recognize the value and necessity of soft skills expected by employers and recruiters from diplomatic and international business sectors. Over 30 intensive hours, participants will engage in simulations, workshops and lectures. Method:

 

  • 30 hours of rigorous, hands-on workshops, simulations and lectures

Costs & Scholarships

335 EUR (without accommodation) or 535 EUR (with accommodation). The registration fee includes 5 days of the courses, materials, coffee breaks, lunches and diploma. All participants are expected to arrange their own travel. Limited number of best applicants will receive a scholarship.
