Due 6/20 for Mondale Scholarship Program for Minnesota undergraduate students enrolled in Minnesota colleges and universities
Mondale Scholarship Program, 2016-2017 Academic Year APPLICATION GUIDELINES The Japan America Society of Minnesota (JASM) will award the Mondale Scholarship to Minnesota undergraduate students enrolled in Minnesota colleges and universities who want to broaden their knowledge of Japan through a combination of study and travel. JASM will offer up to $4,500 in scholarships for the 2016-2017 academic year. The selection committee has the discretion to award up to four $1,000 scholarships or three $1,500 scholarships.
The awards are specifically to be used for travel to or within Japan before, during, or after the student’s specified term(s) of study. The application process consists of the completion and submission of the following items: 1. Application form 2. Official college/university transcript(s) from all institutions attended 3. Cumulative GPA 3.0 or higher 4. Two letters of recommendation. These letters should come from a faculty member or a member of the applicant’s community of residence who knows the applicant well and who can attest to the applicant’s desire to spend time studying and traveling in Japan. 5. An essay that addresses these questions: Why do you want to study and travel in Japan? What is your goal for this experience? How do you intend to use the scholarship dollars? The essay must be no longer than two double-spaced typewritten pages. 6. A copy of the letter of acceptance from the intended program of study in Japan. Deadline: Applications must be postmarked or emailed no later than Monday, June 20th , 2016. The selection committee will review all applications and select finalists for interviews. These interviews will be held between June 20th and Mid-July 2016. Applicants unable to participate in the interview process may be disqualified by the selection committee.
Please note: Applicants must be U.S. citizens or resident aliens currently enrolled at a Minnesota college or university. The awardees will be asked to provide quarterly written reports on their experience while in Japan and to make a personal appearance at a Japan America Society of Minnesota function during the semester after their travel is completed. Scholarship awards are generally not considered taxable income if used for tuition, books, or other similar educational expenses. Award recipients should consult with a tax advisor to understand their potential tax liability.

The Bucharest University of Economic Studies (ASE), Bucharest University of Economic Studies Students’ Union (US ASE), Alumni ASE Association, through the Students’ Senate, with the academic mentoring of the Faculty of Administration and Public Management (FAMP), having as educational partner the ‘Dan Voiculescu’ Foundation for Romania’s Development (FDVDR) gladly invites you to take part in one of this summer’s most interesting educational experiences: Bucharest Summer University 2016. This 12th edition of the international summer school, held annually in Bucharest, gathers students from all over the world to discuss different topics in the economics field.
The courses will take place between the 14th and 28th of August 2016. Together with speakers and professors from top universities and companies around the world, 55 participants will spend 2 weeks in the campus of the Bucharest University of Economic Studies including one extended weekend exploring particular destinations across the country.

“Culture.World.We.” Youth Project 2016 in Ukraine

Description
We are happy to announce “Culture.World.We.” youth encounter, the second edition of the “Culture.World.Me.”, which took place in November 2015 in Germany.
“Culture.World.We.” is a youth exchange on the topic of human rights which will take place in Lviv, Ukraine. Dates: 26 July – 3 August
Through exploring cultures we are going to explore the meaning of human rights as fundamental democratic values by use of non-formal learning methods. We will work again with the media theater and video making in a way of how can we use those media to send a message to our communities.
During the exchange we will consider perspectives on human rights through addressing the following thematic aspects of the topic: Human rights today: understanding the meaning and value; Human rights in different cultures and different cultures of human rights; Why and how do I practice human rights? How it impacts me and my environment?; Violations of human rights.; Future of human rights; How I engage and how can I engage others to protect human rights?
There will be workshops about topics such as human rights (of course), communicating differences and their appreciation, intercultural communication and a lot more. From understanding of the value of human rights in our everyday life and in various cultures you are going to get to know “How do I become more active?” And “How do I involved in my community to shape human rights to make a positive long-lasting impact?”.
Eligibility
We look for participants who are: 15-23 years old coming from Germany or Ukraine and motivated to get involved in the encounter.
Costs
The project covers all food and accommodation expenses. Additionally it will cover your travel costs. (German participants up to 270€, Ukrainian participants up to 40€).

NISA Summer Session 2016 in Baku, Azerbaijan

Description
In an attempt to contribute to the 2016 Warsaw Summit discussions, NISA Summer Session aims at bringing together young professionals and scholars from around the world to conduct a pre-Summit brainstorming session where the participants will focus on the issues relevant to NATO’s Warsaw Summit agenda, including NATO’s ability and readiness to respond to the crisis situations in its closest proximity, among others. How prepared is NATO to cope with regional security challenges? What are the existing toolkits and policy directions? What should be the most tangible policy prescriptions in regard to each conflict situation? These and many other similar questions will guide the discussions, at the end of which the participants will come forth with set of policy recommendations for the 2016 Warsaw Summit.
This event will involve notable academics and practitioners from governments, international institutions and think tanks as well as graduate students, researchers, early to mid-career academics, experts and practitioners, interested in international relations, international law, politics and economics, including in issues related to Euro-Atlantic area.

11th Global Youth Peace Fest (GYPF-2016)

Description
GYPF was initially started to unify young people of two historically conflict ridden neighbouring countries India & Pakistan. Both countries chose an arms race fueled by security concerns burdening their limited resources thereby crippling their individual and collective ability to fight poverty, malnutrition, illiteracy and infrastructure development. Over the years the main organizers of GYPF, Yuvsatta (Youth for Peace-an NGO) realized that situation is no different in other countries as well and hence extended invitations to young people from other parts of the world. In the 10th Global Youth peace Fest-GYPF 2015, over 300 young people from 29 countries of the world & 20,000 locals joined hands on important occasions for a better world.
Now, taking a giant leap forward the organizing team of GYPF 2016 is gearing to host one of biggest events in this region with expected participation of delegates from around 100 countries of the world at the 11th Global Youth Peace Fest-GYPF 2016, from September 28th to October 2, 2016, International Day of Nonviolence & birth anniversary of apostle of peace Mahatma Gandhi.
Eligibility
In order to be considered eligible to apply, you must fulfill all of the following criteria:
- The organizing team will select GYPF 2016 delegates in a manner that ensures relative uniformity and high level of geographic diversity. All nationalities are welcome to apply. And for the purposes of group cohesion, each applicant will be evaluated as per his/her online filled registration details
- Age – If you are older than 35, please consider attending as an observer.
- Within 15 days of receipt of acceptance letter from the organizing team, delegates needs to pay USD 50 (non-refundable) to secure her/his position in the mega-event. The rest of balance registration fee of USD 200 is payable before July 30, 2016.
- Given the limited spaces available and the number of applications received, organizers can only guarantee a place in the GYPF 2016 upon receipt of full registration fee.
Costs
The GYPF 2016 organizers offers several type of scholarship support to reduce the registration fee amount for deserving delegates from all over the world. In this regard to request the discount, please send a brief email with profile of participant to ‘The Coordinator, Yuvsatta (youth for peace)’ at projectbridge@peacefestindia.in. Unfortunately the scholarship programme can’t cover all the registration fee amount and international travel expenses.
The GYPF 2016 organizers are also interested to work closely with State Institutions, Private Companies, INGOs, Universities and NGOs and will be happy to discuss any further mutual partnership possibilities. The International Youth Peace Forum: Global Youth Rising 2016

GYR 2016 is 10 days of intensive trainings, discussions, workshops and practical strategic planning with some of the leading organisations, activists, trainers and practitioners in the world covering peacebuilding, conflict transformation, youth participation and empowerment and much, much more. The International Youth Peace Forum: Global Youth Rising 2016 will be held this year from July 10 – 20.
There is a special focus in this year’s International Youth Forum on key issues including:
- Building a global solidarity movement and campaigns in our countries with the people of Syria, Iraq, Libya and Yemen to overcome and end the wars in those countries;
- Building a solidarity movement with the people of Ukraine to help support efforts to end the war and division in Ukraine;
- Linking together practitioners, activists, organisations and movements working to bring about a fundamental shift in how the world deals with conflicts, replacing war, violence and the global weapons industry with practical and effective means of handling conflicts;
- Inner peace, resilience, leadership and cultivating peace within to empower, strengthen and support our engagement in often difficult and challenging contexts;
- Introducing peace education into our schools and societies
Eligibility
Are you engaged in youth activism or peacebuilding? Do you want to meet inspiring people from around the world working for the same goals of peace and social justice?
The Global Youth Rising summer camp is aimed at young people already active as activists or peacebuilders aged 18-30, although older participants are welcome to apply. Our goal is to create as a diverse a group of participants as possible. We are hoping to draw youth from around the world working in many different fields of positive change.
Costs
We aim to keep costs as low as possible in the interests of making the camp as accessible as possible. Course contributions covering the entire 10 day programme, accommodation and food are:
- OECD participants: 500 EUR
- Non-OECD participants: 300 EUR
Camping (bring your own tent; we have beautiful spaces for camping, with access to showers, toilets, and food is still included): 200 EUR
Costs cover:
- Transportation from Cluj-Napoca to the youth peace forum location;
- Ten nights of accommodation at the camp (10th-20th July) – a bed in a shared room or a space for camping (depending on your fee)
- Dinner on the 10th July, all meals from 11th-19th July (breakfast, lunch and dinner), breakfast on the 20th, and refreshments throughout the day;
- All training and workshops, morning and evening activities;
- One excursion from the camp (you will be able to select between hiking or white-water rafting).
Costs do not cover:
- The costs of obtaining a visa to enter Romania (if applicable);
- Transport to Cluj-Napoca;
- Extra charge (+150 EUR) if you wish to have your own bedroom;
- Any meals or accommodation outside the duration of the camp;
- Any extra excursions that participants choose to partake in while at the camp;
- Any extra snacks bought during the course dates;
- Medical/travel insurance.
Organizations sending 3 or more participants can receive an additional 10% discount.
Funded placements
In order to make the summer camp as accessible as possible, it is our hope to be able to provide a number of funded or discounted placements for participants. At present, we are applying for funding that may allow us to offer 5-10 discounted or funded places to youth activists/peacebuilders, so please keep checking our website for more information.
It is possible that your organization or local organizations connected with peace-building might be willing to help fund your placement at the Global Youth Rising camp. If this is not possible, please contact us about how you can set up an online donation page and spread the word so that you can raise funds towards your trip!

BestPrep Minnesota Business Venture Program Learn how to create your own business at BestPrep’s Minnesota Business Venture (MBV) program. MBV is a week-long, residential summer program that brings 9-12th grade students together to learn about leadership, business, financial literacy, and career options. Students spend a week on campus at St. Cloud State University (July 10-15) or St. John’s University (July 24-29) to experience college life firsthand. Business Leaders, speakers, mock interviewers and other volunteers mentor and guide students through the week’s activities, including creating a business plan in a group, or “company.”
Scholarships are available for students on free or reduced lunch.

Co-organised by JEF Europe and JEF Malta, the international seminar “European Y.O.U.T.H.: Welcoming refugees!” will take place from the 6 – 10 July in Valletta, Malta.
Eligibility
Young people aged 18-30 years who are citizens of one of the 47 member states of the Council of Europe + citizens of Belarus. Applications from non-eligible persons will not be taken into account.
Costs
Participation fee: €100 (€50 for locals and anyone who does not need accommodation) – (8 scholarships of 70 EUR will be provided based on the quality of the response with the regard to the applicant’s motivation.)
Travel reimbursement: 70% of the travel costs (up to max. 150€)
*JEF Europe and JEF Malta will assist in visa procedures if needed.

International Youth Summer School 2016 in Beijing

Description
Youth Time International Movement in collaboration with China Soong Ching Ling Foundation organizes in August 15-20th, 2016 an International Youth Summer School in Beijing. The event will bring together about 50 ambitious, young and motivated people from different countries over the world, who will receive professional trainings and are under supervision of experts take part in workshops and masterclasses. The purpose of the event is to help you and other participants develop a unique set of skills that can be used in your professional and personal lives, as well to offer you an opportunity to create a network of young leaders and youth-led organizations. Accordingly the program is drawn up that embraces various formats, such as: taking part in workshops and case studies, being inspired by captivating master classes and meeting other young ambitious people from all around the world. Cultural events in the program with informal, networking and socializing activities will accompany the working part of the event.
The theme of 2016 International Youth Summer School is “Bridging Cultures with Business Experience”. It will last for 5 days, August 15-20th, 2016. The program contains various formats:
- Master classes of inspiring speakers.
- Workshops with professional trainers.
- Case study analysis under the supervision of experts.
- Simulation-based learning and practicing of the newly gained skills.
